Public Affairs and Policy Officer

Salary: £43,392 per annum pro-rata FTE

Duration: 6-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Location: London (Hybrid - 2 days per week in the office, Thursdays plus one other day)

About the Role

As Public Affairs and Policy Officer, you will play a key role in shaping policy and advocacy work. Reporting to the Press and Communications Manager, you will help raise awareness of key organisational policies, influence parliamentarians and policymakers, and contribute to projects that impact healthcare and patient outcomes.

 

About You

You will join a busy Communications Directorate, which enhances the organisation's reputation through media, public affairs, and stakeholder engagement. In this role, you will:

  • Develop and deliver a policy and public affairs work programme.
  • Raise awareness of key policies to influence parliamentarians, policymakers, and stakeholders.
  • Support projects and advocacy work, drafting policy briefings and reports.
  • Work across directorates and with members to develop policy proposals and public affairs activities.
  • Provide advice to senior staff and ensure that influencing work aligns with organisational priorities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop policy positions, briefings, and influencing plans.
  • Build and maintain relationships with politicians, influencers, and stakeholders.
  • Draft responses to parliamentary and government consultations.
  • Support advocacy projects and prepare reports for senior leadership.
  • Represent the organisation at meetings and events to promote policy positions.

 

Key skills needed to succeed in this role:

  • Strong understanding of UK political systems and parliamentary procedures.
  • Experience drafting policy documents and translating complex concepts for policymakers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise, work under pressure, and adapt to changing policy environments.
  • Collaborative, diplomatic, and resilient approach.
  • Advanced IT skills, including Microsoft Office and CMS
