• Duration: 4-6 weeks temporary role
• Salary: £15.38 per hour plus £1.86 per hour holiday pay
• Location: On-site, located in South-East London, Woolwich
• Working Pattern: Full-time or part-time, flexible working arrangements considered
• Mondays and Tuesdays as fixed working days
• A third day which can be flexible (Friday would be particularly helpful)
• Wednesdays would not be suitable
• Thursday and Friday breakfast sessions run from 7:30am to 11:00am, and support during these times would be especially valued
• Start Date: early October
• DBS: Enhanced DBS required

Charity People is delighted to be partnering with a leading London homelessness day service to recruit a Temporary Suport Worker.

This is an opportunity to join a respected community-based organisation supporting people experiencing homelessness, poverty, addiction and mental health challenges.

The organisation provides practical frontline support alongside longer-term interventions that help people access housing, healthcare and life-changing services.

About the Role

This is a highly rewarding frontline position supporting individuals who may be experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping, housing insecurity, substance misuse or mental health challenges.

Working as part of a small, dedicated team, you will provide assessment, triage and casework support, helping people access the services and resources they need to improve their circumstances and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

• Supporting new and existing guests accessing the service
• Completing wellbeing and triage assessments on their system
• Helping ensure new guests are registered and assessed as quickly as possible
• Supporting people to access GP services where they are not already registered
• Making referrals to appropriate external support services
• Working with partner organisations to help guests access the support they need
• Recording outcomes such as GP registrations, referrals and people supported

Whilst the role will not include responsibility for volunteers or safeguarding management, we are keen for someone who can make appropriate day-to-day decisions, take ownership of their work and confidently support guests, whilst recognising when more complex matters should be escalated.

About You

We are interested in hearing from people who have:

• Experience supporting vulnerable adults
• Experience within homelessness, housing, community health, outreach, substance misuse or related services
• Strong assessment and case management skills
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
• Experience using case management or CRM systems
• Knowledge of safeguarding and trauma-informed approaches
• The ability to work independently and flexibly within a fast-paced environment

You'll Particularly Stand Out If You Have

• Experience of homelessness prevention work
• Knowledge of local housing pathways
• Experience of harm reduction approaches
• Experience working alongside volunteers
• Understanding of mental health and addiction support services
