The Role

Working within the Church Buildings Team, the Church Buildings Officer will be responsible for:

• Managing, processing, and assisting with DAC casework (including formal DAC site visits), providing pre-application advice, project management support, and managing the consultation processes with amenity societies
• Making recommendations to the DAC committee as necessary and utilising delegated authority to progress cases outside of the committee structure
• Supporting the Head of Church Buildings in proactive projects to ensure the long-term sustainability of churches within the Diocese
• Assisting in providing information, training, and guidance for parishes in all aspects of managing their churches.

About You

You will embrace the challenge that such a varied role brings, with an organised approach, and the ability to navigate differing stakeholder views, finding pragmatic solutions under pressure.

With a strong understanding of conservation philosophy, legislation, and techniques, and experience in providing advice to building users on the care, alteration, and management of historic buildings, you will play a key role in this small and hard-working team of conservation professionals. Your ability to problem solve and mediate will ensure that you are able to support parishes in utilising their church buildings and that the best possible outcome is achieved in a timely manner.

You will be flexible in your working style, with confident communication skills, and excellent organisational and monitoring abilities, handling a number of complex schemes at once and managing relationships with colleagues throughout the heritage sector.

You will be from an architectural, surveying, or conservation officer background with strong knowledge of conservation techniques and philosophy. Ideally, you will have or be willing to work towards IHBC (Institute of Historic Building Conservation) accreditation. A keen eye for detail and the skills to manage stakeholders will be essential.

You do not need to be a practising Christian or have a faith to work here - around 50% of staff are not practising Christians but are comfortable with the Christian ethos that underpins our work. However, all staff do have a desire to make a difference.

The role of Programme Lead (Training and Reconciliation) is a key new position in supporting Place for Hope’s strategic goal of growing our partnerships with faith communities to support and equip more people to reach their potential as peacemakers. 

The Programme Lead will co-ordinate all work related to our new 5-year partnership with the United Reformed Church (URC). The partnership will involve two key areas (i) the development and staged roll-out of a mediation team within the URC who will work ecumenically with the wider Place for Hope Practitioner team; and (ii) embedding the understanding, skills, and confidence in how to deal well with conflict, change and difference through a set programme of trainings. 

The Programme Lead will draw on the entire Place for Hope team (staff and volunteers) to develop and deliver an agreed 5-year programme plan. The role will also involve supporting the wider work of Place for Hope, particularly working with our training team to deliver our training programme (online and in-person) with a wide range of partners.

Previous experience of project management, training, as well as excellent organisational and communication skills are essential to the role. The ideal candidate would also have an interest in supporting faith communities to transform conflict and a willingness to undertake CPD provided by Place for Hope to build their knowledge and skills in this area. About you

To succeed, you’ll need proven experience of developing and maintaining relations with institutional donors, analysing their funding requirements and shifting worldviews (particularly DFID/FCDO, EU/ECHO), and working with, managing, and developing relationships with consortium partners. You’ll also need field experience of working in different cultures and religious contexts. Proactive and creative in improving existing processes and developing new ones to improve efficiency and effectiveness, you’re adept at knowledge management within a demanding team environment and used to line managing and training, mentoring or capacity building a team.

You’re an excellent project manager too - someone who’s comfortable working on complex multiple tasks and prioritising to meet deadlines. Expertise in a specific technical area - e.g., child protection, health, nutrition, livelihoods, social accountability, resilience or economic development, would also be useful, as would working knowledge of a second language. More important however, is a general awareness of Christian teaching to appreciate the Christian ethos of WVUK and live their values. Our ESOL service was established in 2017 and now runs 5 days per week and offers English lessons for resettled refugees and an English Club with an emphasis on learning skills for integration into UK society. We are a growing team of ESOL tutors and creche teams providing training to help refugees and their families to resettle in Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire.

SUMMARY OF POST

The ESOL Creche Deputy is a qualified childcare professional able to deputise and support the ESOL Creche Team Leader. You perform a key role caring for children, maintaining a high-quality, stimulating learning environment and imparting your knowledge and skills to others. You are a creative and reflective leader able to implement new ideas and use a range of strategies to continually improve practice. You will also be expected to hold a minimum NNEB/NVQ Level 2 in Children’s Care Learning & Development, or equivalent qualification and will have experience of working with pre-school age children. Clean driving license and access to a car are essential for this role. Creche operates 9.30am-2.30pm. Staff meetings will take place outside these hours.

Reports to: ESOL Creche Team Leader.

Key Internal Relations: Refugee and Migrant Services: Support Team, ESOL Tutors and ESOL Coordinator.

Key External Relations: Venue contacts and clients.

You will also be expected to hold a minimum NNEB/NVQ Level 2 in Children's care, learning and development, or equivalent qualification and will have experience of working with pre-school age children.

4. Continuous Innovation: Your hunger for knowledge will fuel the continuous enhancement of WVUK's submissions. Engage with sector experts, tap into WVI networks, and stay abreast of evolving programming approaches. Essential Criteria

• Expertise in Multi-Sector Program Management: Demonstrated proficiency in assessing, designing, and managing projects across diverse sectors within complex settings. A track record of navigating the project cycle successfully and securing institutional funding from bilateral and multilateral donors.
• Exceptional Project Management Skills: Proven ability to excel in managing multifaceted tasks within challenging timelines. Prioritization prowess is key, consistently meeting deadlines amidst competing demands.
• Donor Relationship Management: Extensive experience cultivating and sustaining relations with institutional donors such as DFID/FCDO, EU/ECHO, and UN bodies. Adept at analysing funding requirements and adeptly navigating varied worldviews. Skilled in fostering, managing, and evolving relationships within consortium partnerships.
• Proactive Innovation and Process Improvement: A proactive and creative approach to refining existing processes and devising new strategies for enhanced efficiency and efficacy. Strong emphasis on knowledge management within a high-pressure team environment.
• Team Leadership and Financial Acumen: Proven track record in assembling and nurturing project teams. Proficiency in linking financial aspects with operational requirements to ensure seamless project execution.

Do you have a serving attitude and are you passionate about IT? We are looking for an IT Support Specialist who enjoys helping our users across the globe with their technical support needs. As an IT Support Specialist, you will seek optimal user experience by handling and coordinating tickets, training users, and identifying possibilities for improvements. Our technical environment is standard Microsoft M365, Entra, D365, etc. combined with a mix of commercial security tools and custom applications. This position reports directly to the ODI IT Infra & Service Delivery Manager. Our ideal candidate will have excellent technical and communication skills, solid customer service experience, a strong sense of ownership, and a positive drive. 

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Monitor and triage incoming tickets (Freshservice ITSM tool), provide timely response to all issues, update internal customers on status, solicit additional information, if needed;

• Responsible for the full professional handling of customer questions, requests, and incidents and take measures when issues arise; 

• Identify possibilities for structural improvements to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our IT services, for example using PowerAutomate or similar;

• Training and advising individual users in secure and efficient use of IT systems;

• Act as a key first point of contact for UK staff 

• Develop and update  support documentation. 

YOUR PROFILE 

• A committed Christian with a passion for the Persecuted Church 

• Experience in IT Support and a relevant degree or certification(s); 

• A great sense of responsibility to solve problems quickly and sustainably;

• Able to understand the needs of users from various cultural backgrounds and respond to them in a service-oriented, clear and non-technical way;

• Proven ability to approach and analyze a technical problem and find an appropriate and workable solution;

• Has a good command of the English language;

• Coordination skills and able to work in a planned and structured way.
