Reporting to the Head of Donor Acquisition and Retention (HODAR) and working within the Fundraising team, the Legacy and In Memory Lead is responsible for managing implementation of the Hospice’s legacy (gifts in Wills) and in memory strategies and developing annual delivery plans. The post holder will strategically plan and deliver promotional and stewardship activity, as well as ensuring provision of an excellent supporter experience, to achieve budget net income across these income streams and grow our active support base, including numbers of known supporters who would consider or have already pledged a gift in their Will to the Hospice.
The Legacy and In Memory Lead will work closely with the Individual Giving Lead to ensure appropriate coordination of planned activities involving existing and prospective individual giving, legacy and in memory audiences. The post holder will also work closely with the HODAR to help inform the development of departmental strategies.
The successful candidate will have significant demonstrable and relevant experience of in memory and/or legacy fundraising and developing in memory products. You will have experience in using a variety of on and offline channels to deliver successful marketing campaigns to both acquire and develop donors. You will have demonstrable experience of managing targets and income and expenditure budgets.
This is a permanent position with flexible hybrid working, based 4 days from their Essex offices. The salary is £28750.42 to £37,293.98 depending on experience.

Role Purpose:

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategic Vision:
- As part of the four strong senior leadership team (which also includes the CEO, Director of Partnerships and Advocacy and Director of Programmes), contribute to the overall direction and strategy of Access, and deliver on relevant areas of the organisation’s operational plan.
- Lead in the strategic planning and successful delivery of Access’s financial and operational management functions.
- Lead on projects to drive forward the internal aspects of Access’s equity, diversity and inclusion strategy.
- Represent Access at various events, promoting our influencing and advocacy aims.
Finance:
- Responsible for the financial planning of the organisation, including the development of annual budgets and long-term forecasts. Work with budget holders across the organisation to ensure the ongoing adherence and management to these budgets/forecasts across all programmes.
- Oversee financial systems that record and report on financial activities and provide information and projections to allow strategic and operational decision -making.
- Working with the Head of Finance to oversee payment, invoicing, bookkeeping and banking activities, maintaining up to date computerised records and maximising use of the accounting system (Twinfield).
- Oversee the relationship with Access’ external and group auditors and support the Head of Finance with the year-end process, external audit, preparation of annual financial statements and sign-off from relevant stakeholders.
Treasury Management:
- Manage the relationship with Access’ asset manager and ensure the endowment investment policy/strategy is being implemented, including in particular, adherence to Access’s stated impact goals for the endowment,
- Ensure high quality reporting on the performance of the portfolio from the asset manager.
- Oversee Access’s multiple banking relationships and the performance of our extensive cash deposits to balance the requirements of return, impact and liquidity.
- Support the advocacy and communication of the “total impact approach” taken by Access, sharing learning and influencing others in the development of their investment strategies.
Governance:
- Take overall responsibility for the Governance support processes and cycles at Access, including plans for regular business at board and committee meetings, members’ terms of office and recruitment of trustees and committee members.
- Ensure Access complies with statutory and legal requirements, including returns to Companies House and the Charity Commission.
- Oversee the management of up-to-date registers of interest for all board and committee members and senior staff.
- Provide advice to the Board and CEO of any legal responsibilities prevailing upon the organisation.
- Co-ordinate the agenda and content for the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee (ARCC), and the Endowment Investment Committee (EIC), and contribute to meetings as appropriate.
- Support the CEO and Chair in reporting to Access’s sole corporate member, the Oversight Trust, and providing assurance that Access remains in compliance with our Governance Agreement.
- Working closely with senior colleagues, oversee and manage the establishment of the risk appetite and risk management framework for regular review by the ARCC and board.
- Ensure appropriate and up to date policies are in place across all areas of Access’s operations, reflecting legal requirements as well as best practice, and that these are clearly communicated and are being adhered to.
HR & Supporting Team Development:
- Lead on the development and implementation of HR policies and processes including ED&I, recruitment, annual salary reviews, and individual performance and development plans.
- In collaboration with line managers, ensure that appropriate training and development opportunities are in place to ensure all team members are given the best opportunity to succeed in their roles.
- Oversee relationships with key outsourced service providers including payroll, pensions, benefits etc.
- Leadership of the three strong finance team including line management of the Head of Finance and support to Business Support Officer.
- Be responsible person for the Sponsorship management System.
Operations & Programme Support:
- Ensure Access’s IT infrastructure and systems are effective, including managing the relationship with Access’s IT provider.

- Manage the relationship with Access’s landlord (Better Society Capital, from whom we sub-let office space).

- Together with the Business Support Officer, manage papers for a variety of committee and board meetings.
- Manage key procurement processes from advertising through to contracting and the production of grant agreements.

Person Specification:
Essential skills and key personal attributes include:
- Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and systems with relevant accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA).
- Knowledge of statutory and legal requirements, ideally relating to a charitable organisation.

About the role
Smart Works exists to empower all women who need help getting into work. We are currently in a significant growth phase, doubling the number of women we support to 10,000 women a year by 2025. As such, we require vital cornerstone funding and are seeking to establish a Major Gifts function, to secure donations from high-net worth individuals, that will enable us to achieve our mission and help thousands of women to transform their lives.
This is an exciting new role that provides an opportunity to build a new major gifts programme from scratch. Supported by the Director of Partnerships, you will work closely with the CEO, Board, and our network of 750 volunteers, to develop a giving strategy that will engage and grow a new pool of crucial supporters for Smart Works.

About the role
The Finance Director (“FD”) will oversee the financial activities of the charity and will be responsible for overseeing the charity’s finances and finance team, driving financial planning and managing financial risks.
The FD will need to have the ability and confidence to apply judgement and leadership skills to make sure that the charity executes strategies and plans in a timely and thorough manner.
This is a 12-month contract starting Autumn 2024, ideally 20 hours/week, but we would consider other working patterns for the right candidate.
The permanent FD role is subject to a genuine occupational requirement for the post-holder to be a practising Christian due to our ethos and the strategic nature of the role however, given the temporary nature of this appointment, we have removed the requirement, although still desirable. The salary for this role is £44,000-£50,000 (plus pension and expenses) full-time-equivalent, dependent on experience.
The role will be based at The King’s Centre in Osney Mead, Oxford, but will involve some travel around Oxfordshire and can also include some homeworking.
Key relationships
On a day-to-day basis, you will be working with a range of team leaders, including our chair of trustees, Executive Officer, Operations Director, church leaders, school principal, chair of The King’s Centre Limited, and the finance team.
You will attend the Strategic Oversight Group, comprising a handful of these team leaders, who work collaboratively on charity-wide goals and challenges.
Responsibilities
Financial
- Developing and controlling the operational budget, in conjunction with the Finance, Risk & Audit Committee.
- Overseeing and managing the Finance Team, empowering the finance team with the leadership and resources they need.
- Reviewing the efficiency of the charity’s financial processes and taking steps to improve them.
- Ensuring that the necessary funding has been resourced to facilitate operational growth.
- Ensuring that an effective remuneration system is in place for employees, in conjunction with the Operations Director and Remuneration Committee.
- Providing advice and support on financial matters to all operational areas of the charity and its subsidiaries.
Governance
- Acting as the charity’s main advisor on all issues relating to financial functions.
- Together with the Operations Director, supporting trustees in developing governance functions.
- Any other duties commensurate to the role as directed by the Executive Officer.

The next day you might be recruiting and training our wonderful volunteers. Every day there will be a different challenge that you’ll find extremely rewarding. Every year thousands of students volunteer to build communities around activities and social issues that are meaningful to them. These volunteer student leaders have a huge impact on the student experience of thousands more of their peers, as well as hundreds of people in the University’s local community. The Student Development Team aims to create opportunities for students to build and participate in communities that are inclusive, sustainable, ambitious, and impactful, and the Senior Volunteer Coordinator will play a key role in achieving this vision for our student leadership programmes.
In collaboration with a second Senior Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll be leading on a series of volunteering programmes that we’re really proud of. Since September 2023, student volunteers have raised over £150,000 for charitable causes, given over 2,800 hours of their time to volunteer directly in the local community, and broadcast an award-winning radio station, among other achievements. As the Senior Volunteer Coordinator you will coordinate the onboarding, skills development, and tailored support for volunteer student leaders who, in turn, coordinate their own volunteer teams. The Role
In March 2023, the charity successfully implemented Salesforce with the Non-Profit Success Pack, revolutionising operations. Now, the team are seeking to expand the reach of the CRM beyond the initial teams and integrate it with other systems and processes. The Salesforce environment includes robust third-party products from FinDock, Asperato, Plauti, Vonage and more.
As a Salesforce expert and product champion, this role is the first point of contact for all staff requiring Salesforce support and training. Working closely with the CRM team, the Salesforce Support Specialist will field support requests, manage Salesforce support tickets, fix problems, document CRM processes and procedures and provide expert advice to staff on how to get the best from Salesforce. Responsible for delivering a Salesforce training programme for all users, the role involves a significant amount of stakeholder management including oversight of the ‘Salesforce Champions’ group.

You will have proven experience of supporting Salesforce and Salesforce NPSP (FinDock experience desirable)

The Role

About the role
As People Business Partner you will provide expertise on employee relations, cultural transformation, employee engagement and relationship building. The role will be varied managing both day to day issues and longer term transformational work.
You will work closely with the leadership team within the Skylight, our union colleagues and the wider People team and Learning/OD team.
