Energy Adviser
Citizens Advice Hounslow is a well-established charity serving the London Borough of Hounslow. We work to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people who come to us for support. Our high-quality, agile advice service responds to the issues and needs of our community, always putting people first. Thanks to our dedicated team of staff and volunteers, we support over 16,000 clients each year through our face-to-face, telephone and digital services.
Citizens Advice Hounslow is looking for two Energy Advisers to join our friendly team. In this rewarding role, you will provide vital face-to-face and remote support to residents across Hounslow. You will empower them to avoid fuel poverty, navigate complex energy bills, access financial grants, and reduce their energy usage.
If you don’t already have experience in giving energy advice, we provide comprehensive training to ensure you achieve a formal Energy Awareness Level 3 qualification (NEA).
If you have a background in energy advice, other advice giving, customer service or community volunteering, and have a natural knack for empathy and hitting targets, we want to hear from you.
What you’ll do:
- Deliver energy and income-maximisation advice via telephone, video calls, office appointments, and home visits.
-
Help clients understand complex energy bills, resolve meter issues, provide confident switching advice, and educate households on the hidden risks of Carbon Monoxide leaks.
-
Identify client eligibility for vital financial support, including energy grants, emergency rebates, and utility trust fund schemes, while making referrals to our internal benefits and debt teams.
-
Use smart meters and temporarily install simple environmental monitoring equipment in client homes to gather data, using the results to show residents visual proof of how they can adapt their habits to save money.
-
Confidently meet and exceed project targets (KPIs) set by our funders.
-
Collaborate with internal debt, benefits, and campaign teams to offer holistic support.
What you'll bring
-
· Experience in advice-giving or customer support (face-to-face and phone-based).
-
Excellent active listening skills and empathy for vulnerable community members.
-
Strong digital skills (e.g. MS Office/Google Workspace, data entry).
-
A positive, resilient attitude toward achieving performance targets.
Senior role:
- The Senior Energy Adviser will lead a small energy advice team, comprising an Energy Adviser and a Community Champion. This dual-responsibility position combines direct energy advice with day-to-day team leadership.
- The Senior Energy Adviser will give energy advice to residents while ensuring service service delivery runs smoothly and project targets are met.
- The Senior Energy Adviser will also proactively assist the CA Hounslow’s management team with data collection, monitoring and reporting.
We offer a range of employee benefits, including generous annual leave, pension contribution, and training and opportunities to continue your professional development.
We consider applications from all applicants who meet the person specification irrespective of sex, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy and maternity, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief, age, or disability.
