We are seeking an experienced interim Direct Marketing Manager to join our membership marketing team to work on the Big Garden Birdwatch and membership acquisition campaigns from August 2024 to Jan 2025. This is a full time role.

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate past experience of planning, proofing and fulfilment of multiple printed direct mail packs, response forms and emails.  Ideally you will also have worked with inbound telemarketing teams and within a charity fundraising environment.

In return you will get to apply your skills to a high-profile national engagement and fundraising campaign. And be part of something amazing to support the conservation of birds and nature. You will be working as part of a very small direct marketing team within a wider, cross-functional project, with tight deadlines, targets and multiple approval processes.

We are looking for an experienced pair of hands in direct marketing – especially high volume print direct mail, forms, and email marketing to hit income targets.

Essential skills, knowledge, and experience:

• Proven experience of planning and delivering end to end multi-channel direct marketing campaigns, working with in house teams and agencies.
• Degree educated or equivalent CIM/IDM qualification, and experience in a direct marketing role
• Very high level of attention to detail
• Knowledge and understanding of direct marketing and fundraising compliance and best practice
• Strong creative understanding, and able to assess the measures that will maximise response rates
• Strong communication skills to bring support teams together to deliver campaigns
• Proven experience of campaign marketing budget management and ROI reporting
• Knowledge of testing, profiling and segmentation
• Able to work under pressure, making or escalating decisions where necessary and adapting to meet changing circumstances as required

You will work from home and will need a strong internet connection to connect and work with colleagues via Teams (if you are based near to an RSPB office you may be able to work from there).

This is a fixed term contract for six months. The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.

“Bogs and Bitterns": Somerset Wetland Restoration is one of twenty schemes being funded by the Government's Species Survival Fund.

As Project Ecologist you will be at the forefront of delivering, working with landowners and communities to undertake the survey and monitoring work across Local Wildlife Sites (LWS) in Somerset.

This project is funded by the Government's Species Survival Fund. The fund was developed by Defra and its Arm's-Length Bodies. It is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England and the Environment Agency. “Bogs and Bitterns: Somerset Wetland restoration is one of twenty schemes being funded across the country. Within our project area we aim to deliver 50 hectares of wetland habitat, restoring and expanding to improve and create quality ‘stepping stone’ sites of high quality biodiversity and to enable species abundance across the wider county.

As Project Ecologist you will be at the forefront of delivering, working with landowners and communities to undertake the survey and monitoring work across these sites. Year one of the project will be focused on targeted ecological surveys and engagement with year two focused on completing surveys and delivering small-scale capital works. The outcome of the project is to better understand the condition of our Local Wildlife sites and to have delivered targeted individual small-scale actions.

Responsibility 1: Develop and Oversee Relationships

Share knowledge and expertise by:

• Taking responsibility for a range of ecological and habitat consultancy and advisory projects.
• Being responsible for corresponding with landowners and communities to access survey sites.
• Carrying out preliminary appraisals.
• Undertaking LWS habitat survey work and producing high quality technical reports within the project area whilst liaising with the SERC LWS Ecologist on this delivery.
• Undertaking and coordinating with volunteers and the wilder project team including Reserves and Nature Recovery Team species survey monitoring and evaluating work across the project area.
• Undertaking a wide range of complex, technical and professional tasks in differing situations, with a degree of personal responsibility and autonomy. It is important to be able to work both alone and as a member of the team.
• Adopting environmentally friendly working practices, setting, and maintaining high personal standards of efficiency and customer care and fostering a ‘can do’ culture based on ownership, initiative, teamwork, and exchange of information.  All staff are ambassadors for the organisation both internally and externally and are expected to always act in a professional manner. They are required to abide by organisational rules, policies and procedures as laid down in the staff handbook.

Responsibility 2: Data Collection and Records

Be responsible by:

• Supporting the ongoing LWS Programme in Somerset, following LWS protocols.
• Capturing and recording LWS habitat/species and condition data and aid in the inputting of this data, supporting updating of LWS records and feeding into the SERC database.

Responsibility 3: Project Fund Management

Support and be accountable by:

• Identifying, coordinating and delivering small scale capital funding and actions across LWS and PCNR network, whilst managing project budgets.
• Working with the communications team where applicable to promote and highlight the project achievements.

• Contributing to discussions, workstreams and providing support to the developing St Brigid’s Chapel and Brides Mound Project.
• Leading on working with other partners to design and implement habitat works across this landholding.
• Enabling the development of volunteering and training opportunities with the Friends of Brides Mound so they are resilient as a community to continue managing this land as part of the nature recovery network at the end of current funded works.
• Working in close collaboration with the communications and fundraising teams to promote the project including the production of articles, blogs and social media posts.

General

What's the role about

This is a key role working alongside our Project Manager and Senior Race Equity specialist to shape our ways of working to be more inclusive. This will include coordinating activities, supporting taskforce members, researching, create content and training materials with support.

The role would suit somebody with strong organisational and communication skills with a background in race equity work who wants to apply these skills in the conservation sector, or someone with demonstrable coordination/administration skills and EDI knowledge and experience that wants to step into the race equity space.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Experience of coordinating and synchronising resources and people, in the delivery of anti-racist or EDI related activities and events.
• Awareness of the intersectional impact of protected characteristics, the Equality Act 2010 and barriers to people of colour, disabled people and people in other protected groups at work. 
• Experience of generating ideas that relate to EDI topics, creating short written or visual content, making information accessible to different audiences as a blog, video, infographic or other content formats.
• Strong administration and organisational skills, including the ability to manage data or records, manage own time and prioritise, create basic project plans and meet agreed deadlines.

As our Fundraising Executive – Face to Face you will play a pivotal role in our fundraising strategy. You will support our Direct Engagement Managers, to lead multi-channel campaigns, focusing on both Face to Face and Telemarketing initiatives. With an 80% allocation to Face to Face and 20% to Telemarketing, you will be at the forefront of our growth trajectory.

 In this role, you will:
