Context and Background
The NSPCC relies on voluntary income for the majority of its work to keep children safe, prevent abuse and ensure every child has a voice. To secure long-term sustainability, the charity has reshaped how it engages supporters through the Engagement and Fundraising Directorate.
Within this, the Philanthropy and Partnerships Department brings together high-value audiences and supporter-led income. The Volunteer Board Fundraising team leads income generation through regional and national volunteer boards, volunteer-led fundraising initiatives and delivery of special events through our high value event committees. These activities play a vital role in maximising sustainable income, engaging senior volunteers, and supporting long-term supporter relationships.
The volunteer boards are made up of influential and successful senior stakeholders who feel passionately about the NSPCC and volunteer their time to help the NSPCC generate income and awareness. They employ a range of fundraising techniques to reach their goals – their focus being to use their networks and influence to secure income generating opportunities via events, corporate partnerships and major gifts from individuals.
The team works closely with colleagues in Philanthropy and Partnerships (corporate partnerships, major gifts, trusts and statutory), Public Engagement (marketing, brand, digital), and Fundraising Operations (data, compliance, finance, procurement) to ensure volunteer fundraising is integrated into supporter journeys, delivers excellent experiences, and achieves strong ROI.
With the support of a Fundraising Manager, the role of the Fundraiser is to cultivate and steward key relationships and deliver special projects across the volunteer boards and their network to deliver against annual income plans.
Job purpose

Main duties and responsibilities
Contributing to Volunteer Partnerships Strategy and Income
· Contribute to the delivery of the Volunteer Partnerships annual business plan to maximise net income and long-term value through the volunteer boards
· Support the high-value volunteer boards and their networks, ensuring their fundraising and engagement delivers sustainable income and long-term value
· Lead on delivery of specific fundraising projects
· Contribute to KPIs for income, supporter experience and ROI, addressing risks and identifying opportunities for growth
· Support the Fundraising Manager on the delivery of business cases for new volunteer-led initiatives
Managing Volunteer Relationships
· Steward senior volunteers and board members, ensuring they feel supported, inspired and connected to the NSPCC’s mission
· Provide tools, resources and guidance to volunteers to support their fundraising and advocacy
· Carry out research through a range of sources, to contribute to proposals, donor strategies and fundraising communications.
· Develop and create engaging materials for external audiences
· Ensure compliance with NSPCC policies, fundraising regulations and best practice in all volunteer-led activity
Collaboration and Centre of Excellence
· Act as a centre of expertise for volunteer-led fundraising across the NSPCC
· Collaborate with colleagues across Engagement & Fundraising to embed volunteer fundraising within wider supporter journeys and campaigns
Budgeting, Finance and Evaluation
· Contribute to the budgets for volunteer fundraising activity, whilst supporting the Fundraising Manager to accurately monitor income and expenditure
· Work with the Fundraising Manager to ensure accurate data capture and reporting
· To provide financial administrative assistance to budget holders, including processing invoices, placing orders, undertaking financial analysis, cash handling and banking in line with NSPCC policies and procedures.
Responsibilities for all Staff within the Income Generation directorate
· To update databases and supporter information systems as directed, in line with Data Protection legislation and NSPCC policy and procedures.
· To actively participate in regular department and team meetings, contributing to strategy, discussions and decisions which will be beneficial to the Directorate and wider NSPCC activities.

Person specification
1. Experience of building effective relationships through face to face interactions with existing and new high-level individuals and/or organisations, leading to securing fundraising income via long-term partnerships.
2. Commercially minded; ability to apply commercial knowledge and understanding to fundraising partnerships ensuring that NSPCC activity has a competitive edge in the market place. NSPCC fundraising activity must be appealing and commercially viable.
3. Exceptional project management skills; ability to see a project through from start to finish, reaching a desired income target. Must have meticulous planning skills and show great attention to detail. Must be self-motivated and highly proactive.
4. Target driven with proven financial management and reporting skills, including accurate budgeting and contingency planning. A track record of achieving financial and departmental objectives.
5. Knowledge of corporate social responsibility and individual philanthropic motivations and current trends in high value and corporate fundraising across the UK.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to deliver fundraising pitches, ideas and project updates to a range of audiences in a clear, inspiring and confident way.
7. Able to work harmoniously with internal colleagues across teams to achieve joint objectives. Working collaboratively; demonstrating an understanding of other team’s goals and priorities. Able to negotiate successfully with others to achieve a desired outcome.
8. Ability to organise and plan own work, juggle competing demands, manage projects and establish clear timelines and priorities in order to meet agreed objectives.

10. Experience of a fundraising CRM package is desirable but not essential; training provided.

Direct Marketing Manager (Face to Face Fundraising)
We are looking for a confident and driven Face to Face Fundraising Manager who is eager to join and lead the Direct Marketing team. This role has been created to enable us to meet our ambitious growth and diversification ambitions, ultimately doubling the size of our active regular giving file by 2033.
You will be responsible for the ongoing implementation, oversight and management of our face-to-face fundraising activity, managing significant income and expenditure budgets to accelerate progress towards a cure. You will have demonstrable experience of driving results, quality and positive supporter experience through face-to-face fundraising. You will ensure the highest standard of quality and compliance with organisational protocols, relevant legislation and codes of conduct. As part of this, you will spend time with our agencies, fundraisers and offices to build lasting relationships, including agency/ fundraiser training sessions and time with providers and the team.
You’ll work with a team of two across our face-to-face fundraising programme; speaking to a range of audiences with one theme in common – compelling people to stand with us for a cure.
Key Responsibilities:
Programme and campaign management
· Lead the development and delivery of the face-to-face fundraising programme and strategy across a range of products and channels. This includes Regular Giving, Lottery and Payroll Giving across Private Site, and Door to door.
· Oversee the delivery of the face-to-face acquisition campaigns; ensuring they are in market on time, on budget and on brand.
· To be responsible for reviewing and developing the face-to-face aspect of our Weekly Lottery Strategy to maximise income.
· Deliver consistent, structured testing to ensure continuous improvement. Where appropriate and worthwhile, ensure testing is applied to all activity and reviewed with recommendations acted upon.
· Involvement in charity-wide projects and groups; putting supporters at the heart of what we do as well as playing a key role in the delivery of our Fundraising & Marketing Strategy.
· Management of all key face to face fundraising agencies including routine reviews, briefing, optimisation and general relationship management.
· Annual planning of face-to-face fundraising; including input to operational planning and development of relevant marketing plans.

People management
· Management and development of a team of two.

· KPI tracking, trend analysis and interrogation of results at all levels.
· Regular financial performance reporting.
· Programme optimisation to ensure contribution targets are met and contingency planning as required.
· Detailed reporting geared towards a longer-term view of performance, covering long-term & ROI modelling, lifetime value and considering supporter experience and engagement.
Training and compliance
· Develop and oversee all training of third-party fundraisers in person (where possible) and ensure that they are motivated, inspired and well informed about the work we do. This includes working closely with the team to develop annual training and engagement plans for each agency partner.
· Oversee the mystery shopping/ shadowing to ensure that new supporters are having a very positive experience at point of acquisition and communicate these findings.
· Work closely with our agency partners, the Compliance team and your team to ensure processes are compliant with the Fundraising Regulator, Gambling Commission, and Data Protection regulations. This includes monitoring fundraising training sessions led by fundraising partners (in person where possible).
· Look into and develop audits and processes across all of our face to face fundraising agencies, ensuring compliance against the Fundraising Regulator's code of fundraising practice.
What we are looking for:

Prospect Research Manager
Are you an established and confident prospect research professional with experience within the charity sector? We are recruiting a new Prospect Research Manager to join our team on a part time, permanent basis for 3 days per week (22.5 hours). Here at Mencap we understand that some of our office based colleagues can do their role from a range of locations, which is why we like to be flexible. The Prospect Research Manager will lead the development and delivery of prospect research to strengthen Mencap’s pipelines for trust, philanthropy and corporate fundraising teams in order to enable sustained income growth. Reporting into the Senior Philanthropy Manager, this post works closely with trust, corporate and philanthropy teams whilst working regularly with teams across fundraising, including community, events, fundraising operations and legacy teams.
Core responsibilities:
· Devise and implement targeted prospecting strategies to identify and qualify potential trust, statutory, corporate and philanthropy prospects.
· Support fundraisers through prospect management, portfolio development and network mapping.
· Deliver insightful prospect research to inform cultivation and engagement strategies.
· Maximise use of CRM system (Salesforce) and analytical tools to deliver high-quality reporting and to support forecasting and pipeline planning.
· Monitor and interpret external and internal trends and influences to ensure Mencap’s prospect pipelines are managed optimally.
· Work collaboratively to identify and qualify potential philanthropic donors from across the fundraising directorate.
· Deliver training to fundraisers on matters of prospect research, as the need arises.
Your Experience
· Strong understanding of the UK philanthropy, trust and corporate giving landscapes, including trends, motivators and vehicles for giving.
· Detailed knowledge of research tools and techniques including wealth analysis in a fundraising environment.
· Understanding of the regulatory landscape in which research exists, and the need for compliance and sensitivity.
· Established experience in delivering prospect research within the charity sector, with a track record in identifying and qualifying prospects across philanthropy, corporate and/or trust markets.
· Curiosity, creativity and innovation in exploring new sources, methods and connections.
· Skilled communicator, able to present complex insights clearly, persuasively and succinctly. Familiarity with CRM systems, ideally Salesforce.
· Extensive knowledge of compliance requirements including GDPR, Fundraising Code of Practice and others.
