We’re looking for a Head of Finance to lead and support our finance function for six months, ensuring that the organisation receives an excellent finance service.

About this role:
As Head of Finance, you will:

• take day-to-day responsibility for the finance and accounting functions, ensuring systems are working effectively, suppliers are paid, payroll is completed, and ensure the new finance system meets the needs of the organisation,
• line manage and develop a team of finance professionals, ensuring an effective financial service is provided to the organisation through their expertise, championing continuous improvement,
• be accountable for the effectiveness of the charity’s annual budgeting and forecasting, and contribute to the updating of our five-year strategic plan.

About you:
To be successful in this role, you will need to be an experienced, qualified accountant who is comfortable working in large, complex organisations. You’ll need the ability to lead a dynamic team of finance professionals, from day-to-day support to professional development. Stakeholder engagement is a big part of this role, so you should feel comfortable working across the organisation with different teams and ‘breaking down barriers’ to develop key relationships. A commitment to the aims and objectives of Dogs Trust is essential.

About this team:
The purpose of the Finance Department is to support the rest of Dogs Trust in achieving the strategic aims of the charity. They work to ensure financial (and non-financial) systems and controls function effectively and limit the exposure of the charity to related risks, providing accurate, timely financial information and of course, paying suppliers in a timely fashion.

They will lead a senior management team of three (the Operations Manager, Funding and Communications Manager and Advocacy Manager).They will be responsible for ensuring financial control and supporting and advising on governance best practice across all aspects of the charity.

This post is a first-tier post directly reporting to the Board of Trustees. Ideally the post holder will have a Christian faith and be committed to core Christian values.

About Reprieve

Reprieve is a UK charity founded in 1999. Reprieve uses strategic interventions to end the use of the death penalty globally, and to end extreme human rights abuses carried out in the name of “counterterrorism” or “national security”.

 Reprieve works with the most disenfranchised people in society, as it is in their cases that human rights are most swiftly jettisoned and the rule of law is cast aside. Thus, Reprieve promotes and protects the rights of those facing the death penalty and those who are the victims of extreme human rights abuses carried out in the name of “counterterrorism” or “national security”, with a focus on arbitrary detention, torture, and extrajudicial executions.

Reprieve’s main office is in London, UK. Reprieve also supports full-time fellows, who work as lawyers, investigators and campaigners in the countries in which we work. We work closely with a number of partner organisations in jurisdictions all over the world, who provide access to beneficiaries, expertise, knowledge and guidance on specific issues or regions. We work in cooperation with relevant government officials, individual lawyers and human rights defenders, as well as individual, corporate and foundation funders to further the cause of our shared goals.

 About the Role

The Africa Death Penalty Team Project Manager is responsible for coordinating Reprieve’s litigation and advocacy in Sub-Saharan Africa. At the moment, the team works on death penalty casework and abolition advocacy in Malawi, Tanzania, and Kenya. Our casework includes work on individual cases on behalf of people facing a death sentence; large-scale projects, such as the Kenya resentencing project, wherein we support stakeholders to ensure 5,000+ people are able to access a chance at reducing their sentence from death via a new sentence hearing; and  long-term regional projects, such as our strategic litigation before the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, which challenges the mandatory death penalty, torture, and other associated violations of the African Charter.

Regional context

 There is a trend toward the abolition of the death penalty in Africa. In recent years, countries across the continent have taken the decision to limit the application of the death penalty or to abolish it altogether. This has been seen as a turning away from old laws and systems that were imposed by former colonial governments, which obstructed alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, and were designed to remove discretion from the local judiciary. African lawyers and judges are now at the forefront of a wave of progressive jurisprudence on issues related to the death penalty including methods of executions, torture, sentencing practice, conditions of confinement, and intersections of gender, disability, and socioeconomic status with criminal justice. This jurisprudence has become a model for the international movement to limit the death penalty, and is being held up as best practice in jurisdictions around the world.

Contract and location

This is a full-time, permanent role based in Reprieve’s London office. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model with staff working part of the week from home and part of the week from the office. Applicants must have the current right to work in the UK, which will be checked prior to interview.

Your presence is important during core office hours, whether remotely or in the office. You will also be available outside of office hours in the event of an emergency, for example case developments that require urgent action. This is a role that may require travel. 

The annual salary is £50,571 full-time per annum, less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance.

This is a great opportunity to make a significant impact on hundreds of civil society, social movements and community groups around the world, driving funding to where it is needed most. The Head of Development will join the central team, reporting to the CEO and will be responsible for forging relationships with funders, as well as identifying opportunities to engage with local community groups. 

They will share the Social Change Nest’s ambitions to transform funding for grass roots organisations and coalitions by reimagining fundraising, removing structural barriers and encouraging institutional funders to support community interests. We are looking for an Interim Bid Writer to take on a pivotal role in this integral team.

The Role

As Interim Bid Writer you will be responsible for leading a team to maximise income. Duties will include:

•  Developing and delivering income generation strategies with a focus on long-term sustainability.
• Managing bid development, leading on bid writing and funder relationships across statutory bodies, grants and trusts and other external stakeholders.
• Developing existing income sources and leading on development into new areas.
• Reviewing and segmenting the current supporters, and planning priorities and quick wins.

The Person

To be considered for this role you should come to us with significant experience in bid writing, and of developing relationships with grants and trusts. You should have a proven track record in this area, and also be a good communicator with the skills and attributes to build stakeholder relationships with ease. Perhaps most importantly, you should possess a commitment to the invaluable work of this incredible charity, and a desire to live the charity’s values of being Open, Supportive, Brave, Connected, and Resourceful.

Reporting to the Chair and Board of Trustees, the CEO will have a passion for wildlife and provide overall strategic direction and operational responsibility to a well-established and highly motivated team, all acting as a strong force for wildlife conservation across a highly distinctive and beautiful part of Wales.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Development:

• Providing strong and visible strategic leadership for the Trust as a whole, both internally and externally
• Directing, inspiring and motivating staff and volunteers
• Supporting and working with the Senior Management Team on the development and implementation of the Trust’s long-term strategy, through development and delivery of annual business plans and associated budgets and KPIs
• Providing strong financial and budgetary management oversight and focus the development of diverse and sustainable income sources
• Ensuring that management policies and decisions support the agreed vision, mission, values and strategy of the Trust
• Role modelling the values and behaviours of Gwent Wildlife Trust to continue developing a positive high-performance culture

External Relations and People Contacts:

• Be a persuasive and influential advocate, raising the profile of Gwent Wildlife Trust, The Wildlife Trusts, and the importance of nature in solving society’s challenges
• Develop and enhance relationships with key stakeholders and strategic partners
• Support the Senior Management Team to develop contacts with key stakeholders and develop strategic partnerships
• Engage with key decision-makers including SMs, MPs, Local Authorities, local councillors, corporate leaders, and community champions, to position the Trust and promote its objectives
• Support the Senior Management Team with major fundraising initiatives
• Co-operate and collaborate with the The Wildlife Trust central team, other Wildlife Trusts in Wales and across the UK

Organisational and Operational Management to include:

• Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with the Chairman, Honorary Officers and Trustees to ensure lawful and effective governance
• Lead the Trust’s Senior Management Team including holding monthly one to one meeting and annual appraisals
• Oversee financial management systems, ensuring the timely preparation and effective achievement of annual budgets
• Co-develop and deliver an annual Business Plan which aligns with the 2030 Strategy
• Oversee compliance with all statutory requirements (including Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities, Employment Law, GDPR, etc.)
• Ensure effective communication with staff, trustees and volunteers
• Work with the trustees to implement appropriate risk management systems
• Deepen the Trusts commitment to the Welsh language

Role Outline and Purpose

On behalf of the trustees and accountable to them for providing strategic direction and day to day leadership and management of the foodbank. 

This will be achieved by leading by example in upholding our values, ethos and culture by motivating staff and our wonderful volunteers, along with the Churches and others as strategic partners in successfully implementing the strategy to achieve our vision.

The role also entails leadership with building high-performing partnerships with all those able and willing to support the vision to end the need for foodbanks in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

·To develop and deliver Greenwich Foodbank’s strategic vision as a pathfinding foodbank working to eliminate food poverty in the borough and ensuring alignment with our vision, values and strategy
