SWAP is a charity providing support to asylum seekers and refugees living in the Wigan Borough.  We deliver a number of key services that include English classes, a Women’s Group and a case work service.  This post has 4 key functions:

1. Provide 1:1 advocacy and case work support to asylum seekers and refugees. 

2. By adopting an Outreach Model, make contact with people currently not accessing services, especially those living in outlying neighbourhoods.

3. Keep up to date on emerging needs and re-prioritise tasks accordingly.

4. Work in partnership with specialist support agencies to ensure asylum seekers and refugees receive services that address their needs.

The issues affecting asylum seekers and refugees are constantly evolving, and will require the worker to be adaptable, flexible and responsive.  For example, refugees are currently experiencing exceptionally high levels of homelessness, so this will be a current priority.  However, if homelessness reduces then project resources will be targeted elsewhere.  The post will operate from SWAP.s main base in Wigan, our Leigh Hub and community venues as directed by the needs of asylum seekers and refugees, including venues run by partner agencies.  The post is currently funded for two years.

Key duties and responsibilities

· Provide 1:1 case work support to asylum seekers and refugees living in the Wigan borough.

· Provide information to asylum seekers and refugees on issues affecting them (e.g. the asylum system, housing, asylum support, benefits, health and social care, education, employment and volunteering)

· Make contact with service users currently not engaging with support services, including those who face barriers to participation and those living in outlying neighbourhoods

· Help service users understand the options available to them and help them make informed decisions (e.g. Voluntary Returns, family re-union, working under the Skills Shortage List).

· To assess clients’ needs and devise appropriate support pathways

· Develop relationships with partner agencies and establish referral pathways (e.g. The Resettlement Team, Serco, The Brick)

· To kept abreast of current and emerging asylum and immigration policy

· Train, mentor and support volunteer

· To refer clients to other SWAP services and activities

· To assist in the delivery of training, educational and awareness raising programmes to local groups and organisations (e.g. schools, community groups, faith groups)

Key Tasks and Responsibilities 

 

1. Client Support 

●Carry out initial assessment of client needs to identify and plan the support needed to address issues and prevent any problems from escalating. 

●Provide casework level advice on welfare benefits, housing and financial issues as appropriate.

●Facilitate access, signpost and accompany clients to services or activities, in particular those with limited English. 

●Assist clients with other related problems or refer to other specialist organisations as appropriate. 

●Make follow up calls to provide moral and practical support as appropriate.

●Keep up-to-date with local service provision for appropriate signposting and referrals. 

●Maintain professional practice standards and regulatory requirements, including confidentiality, safeguarding and equality.

2. Administration, Monitoring & Evaluation 

●Work towards agreed outputs, outcomes and targets. 

●Provide written reports on work undertaken and other reports as required. 

●Ensure that all work conforms to systems and procedures of Respeito, partner organisations and funders. 

●Maintain accurate and up-to-date administration and caseload records, including records of meetings. 

●Liaise with therapist and other staff to arrange and coordinate counselling sessions with clients.

●Manage own workload, administration and diary commitments.

●Provide regular reports and updates to the line manager.

●Attend and participate in organisational meetings (e.g. with Board of Trustees) as appropriate.

3. Communications 

●Disseminate promotional materials through a range of channels and marketing tools. 

●Support the production of organisational reports and promotional materials. 

4. Training and development 

●Have a commitment to ongoing learning and development.

From time to time, the needs of clients may change and the key tasks and responsibilities may need to be reviewed in discussion and agreement with the post holder. Person Specification 

The post holder should have a very good command of Portuguese and English, spoken and written, be committed to making a positive difference to people’s lives, have relevant experience in working with families and individuals with a range of needs, and knowledge of domestic abuse and the needs of those who experience it.

Our specialist youth support service for young people in Northamptonshire delivers early intervention and structured treatment to young people to build understanding and raise awareness of substance related harm. We recognise the correlation between vaping and young people developing harmful habits and are determined to do something about it. Right now, we’re looking for an energetic and proactive individual to take on this exciting new role that will involve creating a vaping prevention programme. It’s primarily a training/education role, but there’s also a practitioner related aspect to it, with the key stakeholders being schools/colleges/education providers. We’ll rely on you to deliver accredited training to education professionals, run interactive workshops with young people, deliver face-to-face and virtual awareness sessions with parents/carers and collaborate with colleagues to ensure the ongoing improvement and success of the programme.

To succeed, you’ll need a professional qualification in health/social/youth and community care, or experience of working in the addictions field, plus a commitment to complete NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care or equivalent. You’ll also need proven experience of liaising with voluntary and statutory agencies and working with health professionals, and a track record of engaging effectively with clients. A willingness to work with cognitive behavioural interventions and the Model of Change framework is essential to, as is familiarity with primary, secondary and outreach settings. Flexible in approach, you’re great at writing client records and reports and fulfilling data requirements, have good office IT skills and are as comfortable working independently as you are being part of a team.

Salford Foodbank provides emergency food parcels to local people who are referred to us in crisis. Food is donated, sorted and packed at our warehouse, then delivered to our 7 centres across Salford, where teams of volunteers greet people as they pick up their food parcels. People can also access support and advice at our centres to help them maximise their income and ensure they are less likely to need to use the foodbank again.

You’ll be joining a friendly team of 6 part-time staff, 6 Trustees and approx. 80 volunteers, all dedicated to supporting people facing hardship. We are part of The Trussell Trust, a nationwide network of foodbanks.

Rate of pay: £21,000 per annum for 22.5 hours per week (£35,000 FTE pro-rata)

•  This is an exciting opportunity to join Salford Foodbank in a new role, accountable to the Foodbank Manager and the board of trustees. As the need for Foodbank services continues to grow Salford Foodbank has developed and expanded. The staff and volunteer team have increased, and we have embarked on new projects to support those that use the Foodbank.
• In order to maintain our current services and further develop, we need to grow our annual fundraised income.
• Through this new organisational role, you’ll proactively create and grow fundraising income, reach, and support from grant giving trusts and foundations as well as corporate organisations across Salford and Greater Manchester.  
• Through your fundraising expertise, you will have a proven track record of growing income and building relationships with trusts and foundations as well as corporate partners to achieve and exceed annual income targets and KPI’s. You’ll have the capacity to create and craft compelling funding proposals that successfully engage and attract donations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Through excellent, comprehensive and considered research, you’ll identify and prioritise a pool of potential grant giving trusts and foundations funders for Salford Foodbank. You’ll forge relationships with those funders, develop and submit timely and winning funding applications.
• You’ll manage the ongoing relationships with grant giving trusts and foundations funders, ensuring they receive excellent stewardship, timely reporting and doing all you can maximising potential for further funding
• You’ll proactively identify, engage and build good relationships with prospective corporate donors, successfully securing them as funding partners. Alongside this you’ll deepen engagement and grow our relationships and partnerships with existing corporate donors.
• Working with colleagues across Salford Foodbank, you’ll develop authentic, compelling, creative and winning funding and partnership proposals that can successfully engage grant giving trusts, foundations and corporate partners and that can successfully align our vision and work with their needs, motivations, areas of interests and values.
• You’ll research potential funding opportunities from the local council and local authorities.
• You will develop, monitor and manage a fundraising portfolio. You’ll establish a fundraising pipeline, including a range of KPI’s that can be tracked and that will enable you to make informed projections regarding future income.
• You’ll work collaboratively with other Trussell Trust food banks across the Greater Manchester area, identifying and progressing opportunities for joint funding proposals and partnerships.
• You’ll forge strong relationships with colleagues across the wider Trussell Trust network, sharing best practice and learning from other charities across the network. You’ll proactively take advantage of any fundraising training and skills development opportunities and engage with any joint fundraising opportunities.
• You’ll be willing to carry out other reasonable duties contributing to the overall aims of the Foodbank.

Skills

• You’ll have good, established experience of trusts and foundations fundraising as well as corporate partnerships fundraising.

Often the first point of contact for our clients in Lambeth and Southwark, the Information and Advice Service aims to provide support for residents who may be experiencing social-isolation, low mood, anxiety or depression. The service handles over 1500 enquiries a year from people seeking support for a range of issues including welfare benefits, housing and homelessness, advocacy, family support, disability and legal advice in addition to accessing our mental health and befriending services.

As one of two Advice Service Coordinators, you’ll support volunteers to ensure that the service is running efficiently. You will be in regular contact with clients both interested in and accessing the service to make sure they have adequate support. This may include referrals and signposting to additional or alternative mental health and social support services.

You’ll also maintain the online Community Information Network (COIN) directory, which includes vocational and social opportunities for adults with long term health conditions who are looking for paid work, to move closer to their vocational goals or consider social and leisure opportunities.

Applicants should have experience of providing specialist advice in benefits and housing, managing a diverse caseload and providing advocacy, and possess effective communication skills. An ability to work independently but collaboratively, to be proactive and show initiative is essential for this role.

Salary in the range £12,373 to £15,122 per annum (£24,745 to £30,243 full time equivalent)

Our adoption teams focus on assessing prospective adopters who can consider Early Permanence and/or adopting a wide range of children.

Your role

As Shop Manager of Scope's Ilkley shop, you’ll have autonomy to run your shop using your creativity and flair to flourish in our retail environment. Our retail roles are full of variety, and every day is different! One day you might be generating and processing stock and designing an eye-catching window display. The next day you might be recruiting and training our wonderful volunteers. Every day there will be a different challenge that you’ll find extremely rewarding. You will have relevant experience in retail but a great attitude and willingness to learn is just as important.

 

About you

As Shop Manager you’ll be passionate about retail and have a love of fashion with experience of running a shop, or you’ll be looking for a management role as the next step in your career. To be successful, you’ll need a commercial, can-do attitude and always put the customer’s needs first. You’ll be a dedicated team player with a strong work ethic, a great attention to detail, solid IT skills and a creative eye for displays. We ask you demonstrate an appreciation of Scope’s values and ambition of achieving Everyday Equality for disabled people.

 

About working in our shops

Our shops are the face of our retail brand, run by a dedicated, creative and passionate bunch of superstars. We focus on sustainable fashion and engaging with local communities. We lead our volunteers to deliver a great colleague and customer experience. And we raise much needed funds to deliver Everyday Equality for disabled people and their families.

It’s important for you to know that Scope Charity Shops are open every day. So some weekend and Bank Holiday cover is needed. Our full time hours are 35 hours a week, working five days out of seven. Weekly hours for part-time vacancies are on a seven-day rota.
