Friends of Ibba Girls School, South Sudan (UK charity number 1146220)

Friends of Ibba Girls School, South Sudan (FIGS), was established in 2011 in response to a specific request from local community leaders to help them build and develop a girls’ residential school in South Sudan.  Ibba Girls Boarding School (IGBS) now educates 360 primary and secondary school girls from across the whole of Western Equatoria State and employs 40 staff (teachers, matrons, cooks and other support staff). The school is on a large, green campus and provides not only high-quality teaching but a visible demonstration of the benefits of school education in South Sudan, where most girls leave school before the end of primary and very few achieve secondary qualifications.  FIGS is a relatively small organization but it is making a substantial impact by providing a model of good quality girls’ schooling across South Sudan.

FIGS has achieved notable successes – the school which opened in 2014, initially with 40 girls, has now reached its full size of 360 girls, with excellent exam results and has reduced dropout from school. It is nurturing empowered women who can exercise leadership locally and nationally for this newly independent nation. FIGS works closely with the experienced and widely-acclaimed Windle Trust International, who provide technical financial and organizational support to the school in South Sudan. 

FIGS has raised about £4 million over the last 10 years, particularly through relational fundraising.  Running costs for a boarding school in South Sudan are around £ 1/3 million each year, so fundraising is a key task for FIGS.

This is a brilliant opportunity for an experienced fundraiser with a strong and demonstrable track record to play a crucial role in expanding the donor base of FIGS, while sustaining and engaging the large network of existing supporters and donors.  You will lead the fundraising work and will use your skills across a wide range of fundraising functions, including expanding the number and range of individuals, corporates, philanthropists, schools, churches, legacies and trusts. 

We need the help of a talented individual to implement FIGS’ fundraising strategy and action plan, working with those Trustees who are able to give some time to fundraising and with solid help from a part-time fundraising consultant.  There is plenty to enjoy in the varied work, where one can see visible results in the impact it has on the school, its students and staff, parents and communities across Western Equatoria State and across the nation of South Sudan.

The post can be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis (where part-time is at least 3 days a week).  It will be on a self-employed consultancy basis.  Hours can be flexible by arrangement. The person will work mainly from home, liaising online with Trustees and others, but some travel to events in London and elsewhere will be needed on an occasional basis. We are looking for someone to start as soon as mutually convenient. A contract will be one year in the first instance, and can be renewed subject to satisfactory performance.  The remuneration as a self-employed person is in the range of £35-42K dependent on track record and experience (or pro rata). 

Key responsibilities

· To support the delivery of the fundraising plan, achieving or exceeding targets and KPIs, both financial and non-financial as agreed with the Chair of FIGS Trustees and Chair of its fundraising group.

· To identify and generate new fundraising opportunities, from the corporate and philanthropic sectors, as well as from organizations, groups and individuals

· To widen the existing network of donors, based on relationship development and management and engagement with existing supporters and donors, and creating new opportunities

· To generate a pipeline of activities across a range of fund-raising streams

· Develop strong relationships with all external stakeholders. 

· Produce progress reports for FIGS Trustees about fundraising in relation to targets and budget and make recommendations for future streams of work.

· Attend key fundraising and supporter events to generate significant income, support and profile.

· Be an ambassador for FIGS.

· Ensure fundraising activities are in line with FIGS’ values and policies, relevant legislation and the Fundraising Regulator Code of Practice.

About the role​​

We The Curious is about to enter an exciting new phase in its mission to connect and empower everyone through shared creative science learning experiences, as we prepare to reopen after two years of closure in early 2024. Our new multi-year strategy, Plan 2030, encompasses numerous major projects for which we must develop and cultivate support.​​

The Development Team is responsible for fundraising across the whole organisation and the stewardship and development of our donors and supporters. The other members of the team are the Development Manager, the Gifts and Partnerships Manager and Development Account Manager. We are looking for a Trusts and Foundations Manager who is collaborative, organised and an excellent communicator to join the team to help us maximise and unlock some very exciting fundraising opportunities.​

As Trusts and Foundations Manager you will use your skills in research and persuasion to identify grants funding opportunities, establish new relationships and write and submit proposals to trusts, foundations, Lottery funders, the local authority, universities and research councils. Working closely with the rest of the team and project managers from other departments you will raise between six and seven figure sums for our programme of creative science learning and inclusion projects.​

What will you do in this role?​​

Role specific responsibilities​​

_Identify new grants funding sources, including trusts and foundations, research councils and statutory/government funders. ​​

_Prepare and submit high quality funding proposals, expressions of interest and budgets in accordance with strict deadlines and application criteria, to a diverse range of funders, for up to seven-figure sums. ​​

_Work closely with internal departmental teams to develop We The Curious projects so that they are ready for fundraising and write detailed and compelling cases for support that include timelines, budgets and evaluation and reporting plans. ​​

_Support the funding applications of other partner organisations by collaboratively drafting budgets, attending project development meetings and writing letters of support. ​​

_Support the Development Account Manager to cultivate potential funders, including attending on-site visits and events, phone calls and delivering presentations to secure support. ​​

_Support the Development Account Manager to manage a portfolio of funders including overseas relationships, fulfilling reporting and public recognition requirements, thank you letters, regular communications and other correspondence. ​​

_Liaise with the finance team to record new income and report on expenditure in accordance with funder deadlines.​​

_Support the Gifts and Partnerships Manager and Development Manager in identifying new strategic opportunities and exploring new types of income stream. This may include presenting to the leadership team. Contribute to the delivery of the fundraising strategy, including proposing financial targets for grants, lottery and research income. ​​

_Work closely with the Open City Research (OCR) Manager to identify and pursue new funding opportunities for our ambitious OCR programme and work with the finance team to establish a new funding model for this activity. Support the Gifts and Partnerships Manager and Sustainability and Science Director in cultivating high-value stakeholders in STEM and research sectors. ​​

_Assist in the implementation of the Development Team’s migration onto a new CRM database working closely with the Development Account Manager to customise the database for the Development team’s needs.​​

_Work with the finance team to understand our financial position and as requested by the Finance Director, contributing to key organisational financial documentation, such as the annual business plan.​​

_Manage Fundraising Volunteers supporting the administrative workload of the team and attend Volunteer Key Contacts meetings. ​​

_Attend and occasionally present at We The Curious staff meetings, exhibition launches, project meetings, project development presentations and meetings as required. ​​​

General ​responsibilities​​

_Develop and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of We The Curious’ planned activities for communities and schools to present our work persuasively to funders and partners. ​​

What we’re looking for from you​​

_You’ll have at least three years of fundraising experience, with success at delivering against financial targets and strict deadlines. You’ll have the ability to network, build and manage funding relationships with a wide range of funders and other stakeholders. ​​

_You’ll be confident explaining and pitching ideas to internal and external stakeholders. ​​

_You’ll have experience of working very closely with project delivery teams to develop projects, ensure they know what they need to deliver for funders and monitor their expenditure. ​​

_You’ll have excellent budget management skills, the ability to work independently and effectively and will be confident reporting on six or seven figure budgets. ​​

_You will have good understanding of the financial and regulatory environment charities operate within. ​​

_You’ll have some technical knowledge and experience at using and developing fundraising databases. ​​

_You’ll have experience and confidence in managing multiple projects simultaneously. ​​

_You’ll have the ability to understand We The Curious’ broad-ranging project content and tailor it to appropriate style and content for target funders. ​​

_You’ll have excellent verbal and written communication skills. ​​

_You’ll ideally have an understanding or experience of working in education, culture and/or science charities.​

Who: We are looking for an experienced, self-starting Finance Manager for the Central Foundation Schools of London, a charity supporting two state schools in London, with investments and endowments in the region of £40m.

Responsibilities: The Finance Manager will be responsible through the CEO to the Board, for day-to-day management of the charity’s accounts and all financial operations. They will manage the financial record keeping, payroll, pensions, banking and oversee the tracking of Foundation’s investments and income. The postholder will provide accurate financial management information, including quarterly cashflow forecasting and management accounts and co-ordinating the annual budget setting process.  They will be responsible for preparing the annual accounts to the required standards and overseeing the annual audit process. They will also provide advice on a range of operational issues to ensure sound asset management, value for money and compliance with statutory requirements relevant to the charity’s financial operations. They will contribute to the shared leadership of the organisation including collaborating on the implementation of the Foundation’s strategy.

Our Work: For over 150 years, the Central Foundation Schools of London has supported two schools in inner London. Between them, the Girls’ School at Bow Road, Tower Hamlets and the Boys’ School is based in Cowper Street, Islington provide places to over 2,500 young people. Today, the Foundation continues to benefit students at these two schools while also supporting the schools to strengthen the opportunities, facilities and educational excellence for current and future students.

Our People: We are a small team with three part time staff managing the day to day work of the Foundation.  A Board of 18 trustees/directors volunteer their time and skills and collaborate closely with the small staff team. In 2022 the Board started a process of transformation and modernisation of the charity’s operations and processes. In 2023, alongside refreshing our governance, supporting two major building programmes and updating our financial operations, we established our first strategy addressing how we can best support the Schools over the next decade and more. 

The Role: To support the exciting opportunities presented by the new strategy, Central Foundation Schools for London are recruiting a permanent Finance Manager to provide professional management of the charity’s accounts, ensuring the charity’s operational effectiveness and efficiency, accurate financial management information and advice, preparation of the annual budget, management of our investment portfolio as well as compliance with statutory for the production of the Annual Statutory Accounts in compliance with latest SORP and legislation.

Experience: We are looking for a fully qualified accountant with good post-qualification experience with the ability to work independently and lead the charity’s financial operations.

Hours: Working 2 days a week, the appointed candidate will have the flexibility agree their working pattern with the chief executive. Ideally, the new Finance Manager would work Tuesday or Wednesday (or both) on site in the Foundation office when other staff members are also on site.

Our Offer: Salary £48,000 - £54,000 pro rata dependant on experience;b ased near Old Street, with flexibility in days/hours by agreement; enhanced employer pension with option to join from day 1; 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (pro-rata); taining and development support, including support for continuing professional development.

The post will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer, provide support for Trust Board (and associated subcommittees), and will work across the entire Trust to develop and deliver the highest standards of governance and compliance. It will also support and contribute to the work of the Executive Leadership Team of the Trust, which is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the organisation

Key responsibilities for the role include:

• Ensuring good governance through policy development, coordination and support of the Board of Trustees , local governing bodies and other subcommittees, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Committee and meeting support, including servicing Trust Board and a range of other subcommittees.
• Oversight of the recruitment and induction of trustees and governors.
• Support to the CEO and other senior leaders with complaints, investigations and other formal hearings. 
• Support the CEO in their role as Data Protection Officer for the trust, taking administrative responsibility for key duties as required.

• Have worked in the not-for-profit or education sector and have an understanding of the critical role that good governance can play in making an organisation impactful and effective.

The aim of this new Wellcome Trust-funded Leadership Development programme is to support senior research leaders in leading positive cultural change and enhancing cross-sector working. The Leadership Programme Specialist is responsible for the evaluation, documentation, and reporting for the Leadership Development programme. This role involves creating comprehensive learning history reports, developing reporting for senior stakeholders and funders, and establishing a learning platform and toolkit for programme participants. Additionally, the postholder will stay abreast of the latest thinking and materials in leadership development to incorporate into programme content. They will also create articles and marketing/communications materials to promote the programme and its impact.

This role requires strong organisational skills, a confident knowledge of evaluation processes, a keen understanding of leadership development principles, and excellent communication abilities to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders. You will be part of a small but energetic team who work flexibly and collaboratively to achieve their goals

About the Role 

Are you an experienced A level tutor? Can you support under-resourced young people to reach their full academic potential? 

We are looking for passionate and qualified A level tutors to deliver high quality small group tuition to our cohort of over 800 students. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced tutors with a love of learning to work with bright students whilst earning a competitive market rate for their tuition expertise. Tutorials are delivered online in groups of 2-4 students via our bespoke online platform. 

Tutors should be able to commit to a minimum of three hours per week, between the hours of 4pm and 8pm on a weekday, to tutor The Access Project students.

We are looking for A Level tutors in these subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Further Maths, Geography, Maths, Physics, Politics, Psychology and Sociology. 

We are particularly interested in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics applicants.

About the Organisation 

We believe that every young person should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential and make the most of their education. We are passionate about reducing the educational barriers our students face, helping them to pursue a career in their chosen field and follow their dreams.

Our mission is to support students from under-resourced backgrounds to access top universities, through a unique combination of tuition and in-school mentoring. We work with them to make good applications, get the grades and transition to university.

The programme combats educational inequality and improves social mobility by raising students’ grades and supporting them to understand the pathway to a top university. Students who receive support from our programme are almost twice as likely to attend top universities as statistically similar students, according to UCAS.

Tutor Responsibilities

• Adhere to the charity’s safeguarding policies, including undertaking an Enhanced DBS check
• Schedule tutorials with your tutor groups 
• Responsively plan and deliver stimulating, high-quality tuition in line with our Tuition Quality Framework 
• Deliver weekly hour-long tutorials via The Access Project’s online platform 
• Complete weekly attendance forms 
• Provide feedback on student progress 
• Supply monthly invoices 
• Take part in our observation and feedback process 

Person Specification 

• UK based with the right to work in the UK 
• Passionate about The Access Project’s mission 

• A level teaching and/or extensive tutoring experience (minimum of two years) in a group setting 
• Positive, engaging and flexible teaching style 
• Familiarity with and strong knowledge of relevant exam boards and specifications 
• Achieved a minimum of Grade B at GCSE in Maths, English and Science 
• Evidence of ability to tutor one of the following subjects to A Level standard: Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English, French, Further Maths, Geography, History, Maths, Physics, Politics, Psychology, Sociology and Spanish. 
• Ability to commit to weekly hour-long tutorials at the same time each week over the academic year

About The Swedish School

The Swedish School is a private, not-for-profit school that provides education from pre-school all the way through to sixth form, following the Swedish curriculum whilst using London to add an international dimension to their teaching. Carrying their fourth consecutive ‘Outstanding’ award from Ofsted, they encourage a positive learning environment.

Role responsibilities

Finance:

• Develop and oversee the day-to-day accounting and manage monthly and annual closing and annual accounts
• Prepare annual budget and regular forecast updates and provide updates to budget holders
• Prepare monthly management accounts
• Manage contracts with clients (partner schools, parents and Swedish municipalities)
• Oversee school fee billing each school term and ensure all fees and extras are collected in liaison with the Finance Assistant
• Manage the collection of fees and credit control procedures
• Maintaining cash flow projections for the current and future years
• Prepare annual salary review

Operations Management

• Contract management, including overseeing purchase procedures
• Oversee and plan future investment needs of premises and other fixed assets.
• Manage the Finance Assistant and Site-Manager/Caretaker
• Work successfully with Swedish and English authorities, and other relevant stakeholders

General

• Ensure the school effectively and efficiently operates within the required regulatory frameworks and meets all statutory duties

About you

• Be fully CCAB qualified
• Have extensive experience in financial management and control
• Have extensive use of accounting software (Sage and Zero are desirable)

Bristol Education Partnership (BEP) is recruiting a Project Manager to lead the Partnership’s work to tackle disadvantage, raise aspirations and broaden the educational experience of young people in partner schools. The partnership was set up in 2019 and after a successful first five years, we are looking for someone with energy and ideas to lead the next stage of development; someone with a background in education, with experience of developing and leading inspiring projects and of working with a wide range of partners from across the community. 

The Partnership is held by, and the postholder will be employed by, Bristol Charities. Bristol Charities is a local charitable group with a rich history, having supported the people of Bristol for over 600 years through Housing, Grants, Education, and Community Projects. We are now entering into a new phase of the charity that will focus on impacting long term and sustainable transformation across the city, which includes the work of the BEP, and you would be joining both the BEP and Bristol Charities at an exciting time of development. 

White Ribbon UK is the leading UK organisation working to prevent men’s violence against women and girls by showing what men can do to promote equality and create a culture where women live free from violence. We reach many thousands of people a year, but we can’t do any of this without passionate and highly effective people working within our team.

As Finance Manager you will be a key advisor to the Chief Executive and Trustees, providing professional insights into financial matters to support strategic decision making, playing a key role in the development of sustainable funding, and ensuring alignment with White Ribbon UK’s Vision, Mission, and Values.

You will be a highly skilled and experienced Finance Manager to oversee all financial aspects of White Ribbon UK, including our trading subsidiary, who is able to work in a solo role. You will manage the financial operations of the organisation, ensuring compliance and efficiency in our financial processes and provide a comprehensive and compliant financial management, accounting, and administration service to maintain and develop the financial health of White Ribbon UK. Our current annual turnover is around £410,000 and we are ambitious to grow over the next five years. We manage our finances and payroll in-house, using QuickBooks accounting system.

We are looking for an exceptional Centre Manager to help us ensure that everyone who works in and visits our Centre is well looked after and has a fantastic experience. 

The role is based at our beautiful Grade 2 listed building in Southwark. We will consider either a full-time application for a period of maternity cover, or a part-time job share of the role, with the potential to extend beyond the initial period of maternity cover. On application, please detail your availability (and preferences) for working between 16 and 40 hours per week at our Centre. Working patterns can be flexed for the right candidate(s). Remote working is not appropriate for this role. 

Our Centre houses an amazing collection of 25,000 children’s books as well as being a training and event centre for teachers, publishers and everyone else who works with children’s literature and cares about children’s literacy.

This is an extremely interesting and varied job. In one week you could be doing any number of things from ensuring our teachers can access the right equipment for their training, to planning a book launch with our librarian, welcoming our trustees to a meeting, scoping and overseeing maintenance works around our building, or looking after a famous children’s author.

We have a friendly, talented and committed team working both from the building and remotely. We are looking for a special person to ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently

Reporting to our Director of Finance and Operations (DFO), our Centre Manager will:

• Ensure efficient processes and quality facilities are in place to support the daily operations of our staff, our visitors and other organisations that share our building
• Maintain the building to ensure that the Centre can function as a public space that looks great, and is secure and safe
• Be a welcoming and generous host for visitors to our Charity and for event hires at the Centre
• Support the DFO in maintaining HR systems and processes that adhere to best practice
• Ensure our staff have the tools available to do their best work by overseeing the outsourced IT support company and maintaining our IT systems and assets.

The person we are looking for will have:

• amazing organisational skills and the ability to work and manage others under pressure
• excellent attention to detail and a commitment to evolving systems and processes that make everything more efficient
• excellent customer service skills and experience
• the ability to liaise and communicate effectively with a wide range of people within and outside of the organisation
• a good knowledge of building management and the ability to maintain clear and comprehensive records
• a willingness to engage, negotiate and hold suppliers accountable for quality service provision
• confidence working with (and supporting staff to work with) Microsoft Office and online platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Usual hours are within 9am to 5pm but the post requires occasional out-of-office hours and flexible working in order to fulfil event commitments. The Centre Manager is the first point of contact for any building issues that occur out of hours, supported by our security and external keyholder companies.

A generous holiday allowance is provided - 30 days a year for a full time position (rising to 35 after 5 years service) plus Bank Holidays and closure between Christmas and New Year.
