Head of Development – Museums and Gardens

• Location: Oxford – hybrid working may be an option

We are looking for a talented fundraiser, with a background in the cultural sector to join the Gardens, Libraries & Museums (GLAM) Team within the Development and Alumni Engagement team of the University of Oxford.

You will be working with such iconic institutions as the Pitt Rivers Museum, the Oxford Botanic Gardens, the History of Science Museum and the Oxford University Museum of Natural History.  In this role in any given week you might see a dodo, extraordinary thousand-year old Chinese ceramics, insects collected by Darwin, the first scientifically described dinosaur and drawings by John Ruskin, as well as work on projects involving saving the largest flower in the world or supporting world-leading restitution work.

The collections are important and renowned on their own accounts, but also play a key role in the University’s research.  In addition, they are the open doors to the University of Oxford, encouraging a diverse range of communities to engage our academics and curators.

Your role will include fundraising for major gifts to support the museums and gardens, and leading a team of fundraisers who will work to support a wide range of activities across the institutions.  You will also work closely with the Directors and other curators to raise funds from a range of donors and supporters. You will work with the Associate Director of Development – GLAM to develop strategies and manage relationships with the Directors and be part of the wider fundraising team for GLAM.

Who: We are looking for an experienced, self-starting Finance Manager for the Central Foundation Schools of London, a charity supporting two state schools in London, with investments and endowments in the region of £40m.

Responsibilities: The Finance Manager will be responsible through the CEO to the Board, for day-to-day management of the charity’s accounts and all financial operations. They will manage the financial record keeping, payroll, pensions, banking and oversee the tracking of Foundation’s investments and income. The postholder will provide accurate financial management information, including quarterly cashflow forecasting and management accounts and co-ordinating the annual budget setting process.  They will be responsible for preparing the annual accounts to the required standards and overseeing the annual audit process. They will also provide advice on a range of operational issues to ensure sound asset management, value for money and compliance with statutory requirements relevant to the charity’s financial operations. They will contribute to the shared leadership of the organisation including collaborating on the implementation of the Foundation’s strategy.

Our Work: For over 150 years, the Central Foundation Schools of London has supported two schools in inner London. Between them, the Girls’ School at Bow Road, Tower Hamlets and the Boys’ School is based in Cowper Street, Islington provide places to over 2,500 young people. Today, the Foundation continues to benefit students at these two schools while also supporting the schools to strengthen the opportunities, facilities and educational excellence for current and future students.

Our People: We are a small team with three part time staff managing the day to day work of the Foundation.  A Board of 18 trustees/directors volunteer their time and skills and collaborate closely with the small staff team. In 2022 the Board started a process of transformation and modernisation of the charity’s operations and processes. In 2023, alongside refreshing our governance, supporting two major building programmes and updating our financial operations, we established our first strategy addressing how we can best support the Schools over the next decade and more. 

The Role: To support the exciting opportunities presented by the new strategy, Central Foundation Schools for London are recruiting a permanent Finance Manager to provide professional management of the charity’s accounts, ensuring the charity’s operational effectiveness and efficiency, accurate financial management information and advice, preparation of the annual budget, management of our investment portfolio as well as compliance with statutory for the production of the Annual Statutory Accounts in compliance with latest SORP and legislation.

Experience: We are looking for a fully qualified accountant with good post-qualification experience with the ability to work independently and lead the charity’s financial operations.

Hours: Working 2 days a week, the appointed candidate will have the flexibility agree their working pattern with the chief executive. Ideally, the new Finance Manager would work Tuesday or Wednesday (or both) on site in the Foundation office when other staff members are also on site.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a collaboration partnership project between TCC, Wrexham Citizens Advice, and Wrexham Foodbank. This project will work to reduce poverty and the impact of poverty on people living in Wrexham.

The project coordinator role will be supported by management from the three partnership organisations.

The project coordinator will be responsible for the management and coordination of the project including budgeting, planning and implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. They will coordinate the project partners and wider stakeholders to support an influencing campaign in Wrexham funded by Lloyds Bank Foundation England and Wales.

Key Tasks Include:

• Raising awareness of the problem of poverty and its structural causes amongst those living and working in the county
• Making local elected officials, policy makers, and local organisations aware of the drivers of poverty and encourage them to take steps to alleviate these drivers
• Running community workshops, training, and other engaging activities to partner with people, including those with lived experience of turning to poverty support organisations (such as a food bank)
• Think strategically about how best to bring about change locally, working with a range of stakeholders, and enabling local people to engage with local policy makers
• Collaborative working – bringing the partner organisations together in a strategic and creative way
• Coordinating the setting of agreed project milestones with partners and track progress

We are looking for a Financial Transactions Manager to join our growing team and make our vision a reality.

The Financial Transactions Manager will oversee the smooth running of the transactional processing of all income and expenditure at the Students’ Union. The post will support the Head of Finance in delivering an efficient and effective finance function by taking responsibility for reporting on customer and supplier accounts, and ensuring that payments are made, and monies are collected in accordance with terms of contracts. About the Role

The main duties of this post will be the provision of high quality and efficient project management for the Senior Leadership team, including:

QAC is a charity that runs a college, supported living (known as Independence Plus) and community services for young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities.

The College has been at its current location since 1903. Our original purpose was to provide education for young people who were blind or visually impaired. Today, in addition to supporting people who have a visual impairment, we offer education, support and guidance for students on the autism spectrum, those with moderate to severe learning difficulties, and students with physical and other disabilities.  We have a large, skilled and diverse staff team who can meet a diverse range of student needs.  As QAC has grown, we now have new educational and learning sites.  As well as the more well-known campus in Harborne, there is the QAC Pinewood campus (dedicated to employment progression) in nearby Woodgate valley and in addition, QAC Umberslade campus (dedicated to horticulture and outdoor learning), in nearby Selly Oak.  QAC offers a broad range of study programmes that are tailored to ensure each student receives the educational, therapeutic and support services that they require, helping them achieve their aspirations for adult life. 

Our supported living programmes (Independent Plus) and Community Services offers support after leaving college and to those from within the local community. The marketing and communications team is responsible for marketing QAC services with the main focus being on student recruitment. Following a recent re-brand, the post holder will also be integral in ensuring an efficient and effective roll out of the new branding.

QAC also has an enterprise arm consisting of Sight Village (a touring exhibition supporting those with sight loss), All Formats (a transcription service) and Carbon Fibre Canes.  These are all supported by the Marketing and Communications Team.

Hours: 37 hours per week for 52 weeks per annum

Salary: £35,885-£40,256

15 hours a week, 2 days a week from the below:

• Monday - 09.30-1800
• Tuesday - 09.00 - 17.30
• Wednesday - 09.00 - 17.30
• Thursday - 09.30 - 18.00

(Some out-of-hours work will be required from time to time - for example, early starts to deliver workshops in schools.)

As Finance Manager you will be a key advisor to the Chief Executive and Trustees, providing professional insights into financial matters to support strategic decision making, playing a key role in the development of sustainable funding, and ensuring alignment with White Ribbon UK’s Vision, Mission, and Values.

You will be a highly skilled and experienced Finance Manager to oversee all financial aspects of White Ribbon UK, including our trading subsidiary, who is able to work in a solo role. You will manage the financial operations of the organisation, ensuring compliance and efficiency in our financial processes and provide a comprehensive and compliant financial management, accounting, and administration service to maintain and develop the financial health of White Ribbon UK. Our current annual turnover is around £410,000 and we are ambitious to grow over the next five years. We manage our finances and payroll in-house, using QuickBooks accounting system.
