We're looking for someone with experience of verging or similar church support work. Good social skills are essential as is the ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own inititiave.  The ability to work closely with and relate well to all Cathedral staff, ministry team, congregation, volunteers, visitors, and members of the general public will also be required. 

The two Assistant Vergers and Precinct Officers (AVPOs) carry out a wide range of duties under the direction of the Head Verger and Precinct Manager.  Work includes: the careful setting up and delivery of all liturgical matters; ensuring a welcoming, clean, and safe environment for all working in, visiting, or using the Cathedral and Cathedral House and precinct and ensuring the day-to-day smooth running of the Cathedral for all.

Essential experience and skills

• Sympathy with the Christian faith.
• At least one year’s experience as a church or cathedral verger or in a similar role.

Role Purpose

The purpose of the Fundraiser role is primarily to raise funds from UK trusts, foundations and statutory funders and to identify, generate, grow and maintain this vital income stream. Some engagement to support other strands of fundraising will be required.

The post-holder will work to the Chief Financial Officer and closely with the Chief Operating Officer and other managers of Cathedral teams. Their role will involve research and information gathering on potential donors and funding opportunities, a creative and broad approach to application planning and writing, good written and interpersonal skills and attention to detail in managing application and post-grant reporting processes. It requires the post holder to take a wide interest in all aspects of Cathedral life in order to deliver effective funding support to the work of colleagues.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Research and Identification of Funders

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of our research projects and research funding plans, including in response to requests from Heads of Department and Senior Management Team;
• Research, identify and prioritise potential grants, personal & institutional trusts and statutory funders and funding opportunities, including keeping up to date with new fundraising opportunities in the faith and heritage sectors and in London;
• Undertake research on funders and grant making bodies to assess their potential for funding opportunities;
• Gather information and budgetary information from cathedral colleagues as required by potential funders;

Fundraising

• Secure funding from UK trusts, foundations and statutory funding bodies to meet Budgetary targets and support proposed future projects at the Cathedral;
• Support the implementation of a trusts and foundations programme, with a view to increasing funding for flagship projects alongside core unrestricted funding;
• Assist with the organisation of fundraising events as required;
• Ensure approaches to trusts and other donors are streamlined and targeted.

Contact and Liaison

• Manage the Cathedral’s donor records including gift aid declarations, personal information and legacy pledges and other non-financial information provided by donors - adhering to data protection best practice at all times;
• Liaise with the Marketing & Communications Manager to analyse the existing donor communications and suggest improved methods of engagement;
• Liaise with the Marketing & Communications Manager to arrange for the creation and maintenance of pages on the Cathedral website that highlight the fundraising activity and communicate successes achieved;
• Act as the primary point of contact for all existing and potential trust and grants funders, directing enquiries as appropriate;

Information Management, Monitoring and Evaluation

• Maintain the Cathedral’s fundraising database, ensuring all records are updated and maintained correctly in accordance with the Cathedral’s data protection policy;
• Manage the reporting, recording and administration progress of existing grants, advising relevant members of the team well in advance of reporting deadlines;
• Work with others to develop and implement effective evaluation, monitoring and reporting processes for funders, and ensure reporting requirements are fulfilled and activities remain outcome and impact focused;
• Manage and maintain records and monitor progress of applications and relationships, including working to agreed KPIs;
• Prepare regular progress reports on fundraising and activities for SMT and the Chapter as required;
• Use the Cathedral’s fundraising database to analyse the success rates to support fundraising strategy and individual projects;

Terms and Conditions

Working Hours

The working hours shall be 35 hours per week (exclusive of meal breaks). Some out of hours working will be required to support meetings and events and this will be notified in advance. Time off in lieu will be awarded in line with Southwark Cathedral’s policy.

Annual Leave

25 days per annum as well as statutory bank holidays, with an additional 5 days (pro-rata) after 10 years service. 

Probation

The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.

Season Ticket Loan

Once the probationary period has been completed satisfactorily, the person appointed will be eligible to take out a season ticket loan.

Pension

The person appointed will be eligible to join a defined contributions pension scheme managed by the Church Workers Pension Fund. The Cathedral will contribute half of the annual premium of 10% of salary.

Working Expenses

Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

The aim is to grow a secondary school ministry by enhancing current relationships in schools and developing new ones. The individual should seek opportunities to collaborate with Christian teachers to help equip them in schools’ ministry and develop ministry through assemblies, Christian unions and other schools’ outreach within the Sevenoaks area, with an aim to draw students into further St. Nicholas ministries.

To work with and complement the Youth Minister, supporting Contact (15-18s) and Centrepoint (11-14s), giving insight from a female perspective and developing opportunities for discipleship with female young adults. We have a growing number of female young adults in our youth groups and see a need to expand our ability to reach them with the gospel.

UK Programmes Officer 

Location: Oldham EIC with flexibility (with some home working)

Main Responsibilities:

To work within the UK Programmes by providing support to Masjid Benchmarking, organising online Seminars, Support to Icare, Masjid Benchmarking, Education (Madaris) oversee and monitor Masjid Connect and Islamophobia monitoring, Publicity, supporting other areas of work of UKIM central team that may be delegated e.g. Imam CPD, Dawah, Tarbiyah.

Essentially the role is to support the Head of UK programmes to implement a varied and diverse programme of engagement to support improvement of the different programmes, masjids, branches, and departments in UKIM that require the support from UK Programmes Team. 

The post is varied and ever changing depending on the needs of the members and programmes within UKIM.   

Key Duties:

• To support Masjid and Branch Improvement through enabling them to undertake the self-assessment audit and then to deliver a development day based on the self-audit.

• To organise training both face to face and online that will enable masjids and branches to develop and move forward in their work programme.

• To bring on board speakers that will enable mosques to develop.

• To engage with the Dawah programme and to develop a robust programme of support to meet the needs of the department and different stakeholders. Main Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver a new Partners development strategy to secure significant gifts from individuals.

• Identify, cultivate and secure relationships to deliver maximum long-term impact and income through effective personal relationship management of major Partners.

• Develop strong and enduring relationships with current and potential major Partners.

• Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to create compelling, relevant and tailored funding proposals.

• Work with the Head of International Programme to design and develop a targeted contact strategy.

• Support the development of a range of events/campaigns with the wider UKIM teams to provide opportunities.

• Develop and maintain adequate major Partners records.

• Market UKIM Relief’s projects and products to new and existing partners whilst maintaining partner loyalty through special partner services. 

• Work efficiently towards the continuous enlargement of UKIM Relief’s partner database.

• Assist in coordinating in Partner Services to ensure data integrity, quality control, and database requirements.

• Ensure that all partner information and reports are of the highest quality and are submitted (if required) in a timely fashion.

• To be up-to-date with all new projects, proposals and potential appeals. 

• Ensure that all partners receive a courteous, helpful and professional service at all times.

• Effectively attract and retain partners by liaising with them on a daily basis. 

• Accurately record, process and keep all enquires and financial transactions confidential. 

• Maintain and assist the Manager to develop an effective administrative systems in order to achieve maximum efficiency across the department.

• Maintain and produce professional documents to the required standard and use ICT to enter, collate and present data.

• Assist the Communications/Fundraising Manager in regularly producing reports for the General Manager, Chair and Committee Members. 

• Handle and respond to partner queries, complaints either over the phone, in writing or by email and communicate to the Communications/Fundraising Manager for appropriate advice on sensitive issues.

• Develop and sustain the mutual understanding between UKIM Relief’s and the public.

• To complement the work of the Communications team in producing different types of media to project the work of UKIM Relief to long-terms partners. 

• Ensure duties are performed in line with the Data Protection Act, Confidentiality Regulations, Government legislation and UKIM Relief Policies.

• Ensure information flow is managed and easily accessible to allow the team to provide all partners with any personal information requested.

• Ensure the processing of daily mail, data entry and major partner gift acknowledgements are done efficiently.

• Comply with all policies, procedures, legal and regulatory requirements.

• Hold a valid passport and be willing and able to travel extensively, at short notice and under conditions of physical hardship.

• Any other duties commensurate with the accountabilities of the post.

Person Specification:

• Experience of major partner fundraising.

• Strong knowledge of, and successful track record in, delivering significant new income through personal approaches to major partner prospects.

• Proven track record of personally soliciting high value gifts from major partners and of developing long-term relationships.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate confidently with senior colleagues, stakeholders and partners

• Excellent networking, negotiation and influencing skills.

• Excellent written and verbal skills.

• IT literate with the ability to use Microsoft Office and database systems.

• Experience of arranging events and of stewarding high-profile meetings with senior colleagues, stakeholders and partners.

• Understanding and familiarity of Data Protection, Health and Safety and Gift Aid.

• Educated to degree level or possess a relevant qualification or appropriate experience in a directly related post.

• A good understanding of brand management, marketing and PR.

• Familiarity with the Institute of Fundraising Codes of Practice.

• Numerate with the ability to develop and manage detailed income and expenditure budgets.

• Professional fundraising qualification. 

• Experience in using a CRM database 

• Experience of maintaining office administration and record keeping systems

We're currently hiring for the role of Data and Interventions Manager. This will sit within the newly formed Development Team, which will lead on fundraising and supporter relations, and help ensure excellent use of data across the organisation.

This is an exciting time to join the team, and to have significant impact across the breadth of CARE’s work. As Data and Interventions Manager you will be responsible for the provision of data and user support for all fundraising activities by ensuring that the data on the database is useable, consistent and accurate.

The successful candidate will play a vital part in making sure CARE’s data and database are managed effectively and run smoothly, including managing the development and improvement of our CRM where necessary. The position is full time and based in our London office.
