Finance and Operations Officer – Forward Thinking
Forward Thinking is a small, dynamic charity where every member of staff makes a significant contribution. We are looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership of a varied role, works proactively in a small team and takes pride in supporting the smooth running of the organisation which works in frontline mediation in conflict zones.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Finance and Operations Officer plays a central role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of Forward Thinking. This is a varied role comprising approximately two days per week of office administration and operations and one day per week of bookkeeping and finance administration.
The successful candidate will take a hands-on approach to coordinating staff diaries, organising meetings, supporting governance and compliance, maintaining office systems and policies, and managing the charity’s day-to-day financial administration.
You will report directly to the Director of Forward Thinking and will be in regular contact with him to keep him informed of key developments.
To succeed in this role, you will be highly organised, capable of managing multiple priorities, able to work to deadlines and comfortable working independently within a small, collaborative team.

Essential Requirements
The role requires an individual with experience in office administration and bookkeeping, ideally within the charity or voluntary sector.
You will demonstrate the ability to organise meetings at short notice, coordinate diaries, prepare accurate minutes and maintain effective office systems. You will also be responsible for monitoring funding and reporting deadlines, ensuring compliance with the charity’s governing documents, and maintaining key organisational policies including safeguarding, health and safety, insurance and GDPR.
Experience using accounting software (preferably Sage Business Cloud) and strong Excel skills are essential.
3-5 years experience
The successful applicant will demonstrate:

- The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
- Experience of office administration and bookkeeping.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Confidence working in a fast-paced environment.
- A personable and professional approach, with the ability to work effectively within a small team working on the frontlines of conflicts.
- Good written English and the ability to produce accurate meeting minutes and reports.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and confidence using online systems and updating websites.
Further Information
This is a permanent role working three days per week, comprising approximately:
- Two days per week: Office Administration
- One day per week: Bookkeeping and Finance Administration
The successful candidate will be based in-person at Forward Thinking’s offices in Millbank Tower, London. No hybrid working.
Salary: £24,000–£28,000 per annum for three days per week depending on experience (equivalent to approximately £40,000–£46,500 full-time equivalent).
