This is a fantastic opportunity to join this fast-growing charity at an exciting time and make a significant impact as our first Development Director. You will be responsible for our fundraising strategy and setting up and professionalising our fundraising function. Our aspiration is to grow our income from £60k pa to £250k pa over the next 5 years. You will have the backing of a committed group of Trustees and volunteers who are eager to help and support your work.
As well as setting up and establishing our function, the Development Director will be responsible for fundraising for the MEF across several areas, and for developing funding initiatives for our future. You will help build relationships with people and organisations, securing philanthropic and other support that will help to fuel our programmes.
We are looking for someone with a great track record of success in fundraising, who can thrive in a small ambitious team. We will expect you to represent our interests in a range of public and private contexts; to be a confident and pro-active verbal and written communicator; and a skilled networker with a strong track record of relationship building.
The Charity
In 2011 we first worked with 17 years olds in one state school, and since then the MEF has grown to partnering one-fifth of London state schools, nearly 100 schools. We offer something very special to students, individually or as groups – the chance to plan and carry out adult-free a significant non-academic personal challenge, chosen by themselves, and which is theirs, they are in the driving seat. Our award winners develop greater confidence and resilience, stronger teamwork skills, enhanced social capital, and greater employability with stronger CVs and UCAS forms.
Our Schools’ Team visits schools to offer students the opportunity, monitors their applications and safety, and give them expenses for their projects. In 2022/23 we had nearly 4000 assembly sign-ups, who submitted (as groups or individuals) 600 applications: finally, there were 500 awardees.
The charity has at its root the story and the values of Lt Mark Evison, who at the age of 26 sustained mortal wounds in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2009, while trying to get his platoon to safety when they came under attack. He continues to inspire young Londoners from all backgrounds.
What we are looking for
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated fundraiser, who will secure regular income and drive forward fundraising for our vision – to make opportunities for personal growth accessible to all 17 years olds in state schools in London, enriching young lives, improving well-being, and growing personal dreams, all at a reasonable cost.
We want someone with a breadth of knowledge across a portfolio of income streams, but with particular skills set and experience in generating income from small and medium business and corporate donors, major and regular donors, trusts and foundations, and statutory services. They should have robust experience of developing and securing income from new income streams, generating leads and successfully engaging prospects to drive income plans. There is the opportunity to grow income from regular giving, legacies, and developing a patron programme.
The post is up to three days a week, with scope for flexibility of time for the right candidate.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years fundraising experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and confidence working with a range of different stakeholders. Experience of working in a similar organisation with a track record of securing five figure gifts, and a knowledge of data base systems is highly desirable.
We offer 25 days holiday pa (pro rata) plus public holidays, and employer contribution to pension.

Job Responsibilities and Duties
· To establish a fundraising strategy and ensure fundraising compliance.
· To generate income from individual donors at the low, mid and major gift level. To support the Executive Trustee steward existing, and cultivate new, major donors.
· To research and develop a trust and foundation pipeline and prepare and submit grant applications and draft progress reports
· To grow our income and diversify our donor pool through targeted campaigns

· To ensure appropriate stewardship processes are in place so that donors at all levels feel well thanked and informed of their impact.

· To effectively engage schools and businesses to support the Foundation, to raise awareness and help raise funds
· To liaise with the team on a regular basis to explore better community engagement, local connections, and fundraising opportunities
· To report regularly to the Board on income, prospects, and strategic objectives in alignment with our objectives

Are you a fundraising manager with experience in mass participation events? We’re hiring for a Senior Fundraising Manager to lead our Owned Events and Products team. This is a 12-month maternity cover contract.
You’ll be leading the Owned Events & Products team in the development and delivery of bespoke event, campaigns and products including our flagship event RBC Race for the Kids. You’ll work across the wider Fundraising and Marcomms teams, and with external stakeholders to lead a team to deliver new and existing products, meet ambitious targets and provide an exceptional supporter experience.
About You
- You’ll be a strong people manager and competent working with multiple stakeholders.
- You’ll also be an experienced fundraiser, used to working towards ambitious targets, with a passion for event delivery, new product innovation and excellent supporter experience.
- You’ll have experience of delivering mass participant products and events, and have a good understanding of marketing, stewardship and project management.
About the Team
Owned Events & Products raise significant income and the team is a crucial part of the Mass Participation department, which sits within public fundraising. The Mass Participation department is also responsible for 3rd Party challenges events and virtual events, raising £6m per year overall.

Responsibilities include:

Qualifications / Requirements:
- Significant knowledge and experience of a wide range of fundraising; with a demonstrable track record of growing income in at least two of our fundraising growth areas: legacies, major donors, corporate partnerships or regular givers.
- Experience of leading and implementing strategies, including setting and overseeing strategic projects led by others.
- Experience of using CRM systems to their full potential, interpreting donor data, analysing findings and making decisions based on your analysis. Knowledge and experience of the Donorfy platform is desirable, but not essential.
- Knowledge of the homelessness or social inclusion sectors would be desirable, but not essential.

About the role:
We are looking for two exceptional Senior Philanthropy Managers – Health to join our Fundraising & Supporter Development (F&SD) team to significantly increase philanthropic income for health fundraising priorities across King’s College London (KCL). We are recruiting a Fundraising and Engagement Assistant apprentice to provide outstanding data management, supporter care and assist the Challenge Events Fundraising Officer and wider fundraising team to support our income generation.
What you will do:
Support the Fundraising team to uphold a high level of supporter care with a view to retention and increased engagement.
Efficiently and accurately process and reconcile all incoming donation information, received daily, weekly and monthly from multiple digital sources, onto our database and acknowledge these within agreed timescales.
Analyse all online income including but not exclusively from Just Giving, Enthuse, PayPal Giving Fund and Facebook along with all other income.
Ensure that all third party received income is recorded on Raisers Edge and produce accurate reports for internal stakeholders.
Be the first point of contact for challenge event supporters and manage and respond to queries.
Record and update non-financial supporter information such as, communication preferences, research information and other personal information in line with our Data Protection policy.
Distribute all parcels in a timely manner, making sure everything is recorded accurately.
To be successful in this role you will have:
English and Maths GCSE or equivalent grade C or above
Previous experience providing dedicated administration support.
Experience of handling sensitive information appropriately
Experience of working effectively within a team environment and assisting colleagues

The apprenticeship programme is due to start in September 2024, provided by the Juice Academy - an industry-led apprenticeship provider. They are partnered with Jane Montague Consultancy to deliver the 13-15 month Fundraiser Level 3 programme. Apprentices work on the job within a charity whilst receiving 20% off the job training from current industry experts. The training sessions are a hybrid of face-to-face learning (two optional in-person days) in Manchester, and virtual half-day classrooms via Zoom. Apprentices also receive the on-the-job training in the workplace. The final three months of the course will be the ‘assessment period’ during which apprentices go through an End Point Assessment and are graded a pass, merit or distinction. Apprentices currently have a 94% distinction rate. The Juice Academy are part of the Apprentify Group, and development coaches support apprentices throughout the programme.

Key responsibilities will include;

Key Accountabilities

· To use the website content management system (CMS) to build member charity and legal sector supporter online profiles; and to make any amends to these profiles and other website pages as required.

· To co-ordinate the programme of rolling annual membership renewal and new-joiner invoicing, including credit control of all invoices.
· To prepare monthly engagement report collating key activity metrics for members and legal sector supporters
