Job description

About the role

Galop runs a free counselling service for LGBTQ+ survivors of abuse and violence, staffed by employed and freelance counsellors and psychotherapists. The service works to proactively address the barriers to counselling that some LGBTQ+ people experience and provides a safe, confidential and affirmative service for our clients.

This role will work closely with the existing two Senior Counsellors, where you will have a shared responsibility for the therapeutic team, understanding their strengths, interests and competency levels. We are looking for someone to provide case management, identify learning needs in the team and provide training. You will play a key role in the recruitment and induction of new contracted and freelance counsellors.

You will be an experienced counsellor who can chair semi-weekly allocation meetings and provide clinical decision making for the service. We want you to act as a point of contact for day-to-day questions and safeguarding questions from counsellors.

You will help to further develop the therapeutic service. You will develop an in-house safeguarding process, as well as attend and report into safeguarding meetings with the wider Galop team.

You will rotate the chair of monthly counselling team meetings, as well as bi-monthly safeguarding reflective practice sessions. You will work with the team to ensure that processes and administrative practices are understood by all counsellors and show leadership to ensure the service runs smoothly.

You will support counsellors to ensure that monitoring and evaluation is effective and consistent across the service. You will develop and write policies and guidelines for the therapeutic service. You will support the ongoing development, oversight, and quality assurance of the Therapeutic Services triage and pathway function.

You should have experience working in a counselling setting in the voluntary sector and a knowledge of the way the voluntary sector interacts with safeguarding and criminal justice frameworks.

To ensure an accessible service you will be required to work some evenings/weekends dependent on client demand. Therefore, some flexibility around when your core hours are worked is required.
