Homeless Support Worker 

£23,775 - £25,027 per annum

37 hours a week - Working a 7 week rolling rota with a mix of early (7am to 3.30pm), mid (9am-50pm) and late (12pm - 8pm) shifts.  

Our client supports people who are homelessness across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. This is a new service that starts in June, so this is an exciting opportunity to be part of the set up and implementation of this team.

Their team will be providing intensive, one to one support to enable clients to maintain their accommodation and achieve their goals.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 

• You will have your own caseload of clients to support and will work with them on a one to one basis out in the community and in the clients homes. 

• You will identify their needs by listening to them and put together a support plan which is equally achievable and realistic for them 

• You will link in with outreach workers and other agencies to build rapport and trust with clients who are homeless in preparation for them getting their own accommodation 

• You will support clients to attend appointments and act as a link for clients to engage in services with the aim to improve their physical and mental health 

• You will work with people to identify their strengths and talents, and encourage them to focus and build on these, with a view to affecting behavioural and lifestyle changes that are positive and sustainable 

• You will be conscientious in areas such as safeguarding and lone working 

• You will help clients to access the benefits they are entitled to claim 

• You will challenge harmful behaviours and play an active role in encouraging people to come inside from the street, or to play an active part in sustaining their accommodation 

• You will support them to manage and safely manage alcohol and or substance misuse 

• You will encourage their involvement in personal progression in the form of education, training, employment activity or volunteering 

• You will help them improve their practical skills in areas such as budgeting, shopping, cooking, housework and managing a tenancy 

• You will work with external partners to maximise the opportunities available to clients so that they can resettle in the community. Specifically working closely with the client’s property owners and Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch councils to ensure a successful tenancy 

• Maintain client records using relevant systems to a good standard 

• Work in accordance with the Health and Safety regulations and all policies and procedures 

• You will gain knowledge and understanding of the Housing First principles and how Housing First uses a client-led approach 

• You will be non-judgemental and work towards the clients' goals and not towards societies expectations 

• Attend supervision, appraisal, training and meetings as directed which may be outside your normal working pattern 

• Work flexibly across all areas of operation where required and prior notice given 

• Any other reasonable task as requested by a member of staff 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING 

Previous experience in this type of work is not essential but you will have a real passion for wanting to work with people who are homeless. You will receive support and training in understanding the key principles of Housing First but some prior research and understanding of the support model is desirable Your values will match theirs, you will be committed to helping others and enjoy the real job satisfaction that this brings.

Recovery Navigator (Mental Health)

Our client is leading provider of mental health services in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

They are looking for Recovery Navigators and a Senior Recovery Navigator to work in partnership with people experiencing mental health difficulties who are currently residing in non-acute in-patient care. You will deliver a person-centred recovery approach, in groups or on an individual basis, that focuses on developing, maintaining and strengthening their skills and abilities. Ultimately you will support service users to attain independence in daily living skills in agreement with their individual needs and personal plans, achieving successful outcomes and promoting moving on. 

They are looking for mental health professionals with experience of assessing and constructing care plans that support people to be in control of their lives. It is essential that you have an empathy for people experiencing mental health issues and are committed to service user involvement and empowerment. As the Senior Recovery Navigator, you will be responsible, alongside the management team of the service, for ensuring good practice is maintained and promoted. You will have a role assisting with the supervisions/personal development systems of staff, but you are also a core part of the team working the rota and providing support, taking the shift lead. As a shift coordinator you will be expected to work collaborative in a bespoke partnership setting. You will be an ambassador for our client, providing a value-based approach to all stakeholders.

You will need to be flexible due to the shift patterns which include evenings and weekends. Shift patterns include 7.00 am to 3.00 pm and 1.00 pm to 9.00 pm. Rolling rota in place.

YMCA DownsLink Group is looking for a Building Surveyor to join the Asset Management team. This is a new role in our structure, playing a key part in delivering capital investment programme in line with the business plan – whilst working closely with other members of the team to ensure we maintain compliance and maintenance. This is a great opportunity for a dynamic individual to make this role their own.

As part of the Asset Management team restructure, we have identified a need for a Building Surveyor to assist the Head of Asset Management to deliver Capital Investment programme. By bringing these skills in house, it is hoped to create a more dynamic role with the benefit of ability to oversee upcoming works and provide additional resources to areas we need additional expertise such as dilapidations, disrepair, HHSRS and damp and mould.

You will be involved in the specification writing process (unless specialist consultancy is required) and lead the procurement to ensure we are OJEU compliant in our appointment of the appropriate contractor. You will lead on the delivery of capital investment programme, ensuring planned works are appropriately procured to ensure value for money and adequately experienced/qualified contractors deliver works. You will also undertake and maintain stock condition surveys, undertake building surveys to complete dilapidations, complex repair scoping of works (and specification writing – where appropriate), disrepair, damp and mould inspections (more complex cases) and provision of technical expertise in absence of Head of Asset Management. In addition, you will support colleagues across the business to empower them to confidently make low level decisions themselves.

Advice Giving

• Deliver advice and information to clients, ensuring advice provided meets the requirements of Citizens Advice quality standards
• Ensure all case recording and other record keeping is completed within agreed timescales and conforms to the Office Manual and the Advice Quality Standards
• Use sensitive listening and questioning skills in order to allow clients to explain their problem(s) and to identify the next course of action.
• Use a range of information sources to find relevant information then interpret and communicate this to clients.

Administration

About us

Citizens Advice Liverpool (CAL) are being funded by Nat West Group to provide general advice by telephone for customers seeking this help. This general advice is confidential and independent of the Nat West (Banking) Group.

The post holder would be based at their RBS office for 4 days between the hours of 9am -5pm, providing telephone advice, and there would be 1 day based at a CAL office for writing up notes and any follow up work.

Where it is not possible for the SSO to work at the RBS office, the SSO would work at home or a CAL office, again providing telephone advice for these customers.

Our Macmillan Benefits Advice team is recruiting a specialist welfare rights caseworker to maximise the income for people with a cancer diagnosis and receiving treatment so they can focus on their journey instead of money worries.

You will work with patients via phone and in person at our offices and outreach locations such as hospitals. Full benefits advice is provided on means-tested and non-means tested and passported support. You will do benefit checks, help with applications, negotiate and challenge decisions up to Tribunal level whilst referring to other support to ensure a holistic service. You will be highly motivated, empathic and professional able to work in a team and independent to move cases forward and meet a case target.

Income through benefit applications, appealing decisions and representing at tribunal; you will need excellent communication and negotiation skills, able to digest complex legal information and explain it clearly with attention to detail and able to follow casework processes. You will need to be a problem solver who is able to work independently and in a team. You will need to be flexible and able to work in different environments, find solutions to problems and be highly organised with a commitment to quality.

The ideal candidate will have excellent knowledge of social security law and experience of casework but training and a trainee position will be considered for the right candidate. A DBS will be required for this role.

As Senior Social Worker, you will:

Are you a creative person looking for a role where you will make a difference to people experiencing homelessness in Bristol?

We are looking for a Complex Caseworker to join our Rough Sleeping Navigator team in Bristol who provide intensive support to male clients with complex needs experiencing homelessness. This passionate team offer person centred support service to help people who require a specialist intervention approach to support them through the transition from rough sleeping into sustainable accommodation.

In this role you will work collaboratively with the Rough Sleeper Navigator Coordinator and Outreach team as well as relevant partner agencies in Bristol to deliver sustainable outcomes to a male cohort of clients.

• You will advocate for clients who have been some of the most marginalised in the local area, to make a real and long lasting difference to their recovery.
• You will be responsible for overseeing a caseload of clients and providing day to day support to clients with their transition from the streets into accommodation and independent living with a strong focus on tenancy sustainment and rescue.
• This includes working with people on health, housing, employment and training support. You will be given support to build strong relationships with a range of other services to find creative and sustainable routes to recovery for clients.

About the role:

We are looking for an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) to work alongside our other Community IDVA. This is a full-time, permanent role. The aim of this role is to support victims of domestic abuse mainly covering Bedford, working with victims of domestic abuse who are predominately risk assessed as standard/medium. This role will also work alongside our other services covering Bedfordshire.

As an IDVA you will be:

• Providing a high quality support and advocacy service to victims of domestic abuse.
• Managing a caseload; identifying and assessing risks and needs, providing a tailored crisis intervention service through individual safety planning, advocacy, emotional and practical support.
• Working with other agencies and advocating on behalf of service users in order to help them access services to keep them safe.
• Working within a multi-agency framework consisting of partners as well as MARAC and other local partnerships to offer a coordinated response to domestic abuse.
• Promoting the service and raise awareness of domestic abuse through the delivery of training

You will need:

• Experience of working in support and advocacy with victims of domestic abuse is advantageous
• To be able to prioritise work and deal with competing or conflicting demands/needs and interests and promote organisation interests and values.
• To ideally hold a SafeLives IDVA accreditation, relevant degree, vocational qualification or relevant experience of delivering a service and working with domestic abuse victim's/service users in a statutory, voluntary or community work setting.

About this key role
You will provide an immediate safeguarding response, supporting children and young people back to London when they are arrested outside of area, utilising the reachable moment to provide meaningful intervention to young people at risk of exploitation, plus provide follow up support once the young person has returned to their home region, which will include one-to-one and telephone contact.

We will also rely on you to produce support and risk management plans based on assessments, and to develop and maintain relationships with both referral agencies, including police, YOTs, Integrated Offender Management, Prison/Young Offender institutions, and local authorities, ensuring a steady flow of appropriate referrals onto the project. Delivering a holistic support service which includes social and housing support, education, training and employment options, benefits work, and debt advice, is also a key element of the role.  

It is vital that you are able to commit to evening and some weekend working, in line with our out of hour rota.

What we are looking for

• Personal experience of the criminal justice system, lived experience of the issues facing this client group and/or experience of working with ‘high risk’, vulnerable children, young people and/or families
• Experience in working as part of a multi-agency team and of using support plans
• Substantial experience of engaging successfully with ‘challenging’ young people and of assessing risk and implementing safety procedures relating to children involved in or at risk of violence or exploitation
• Hold a full UK driving licence
• To have a relevant qualification to a good standard or be working towards one
• Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Working as part of a larger Trainer and Assessor team, you will work with allocated learners to produce realistic assessment plans, assessing learners using a range of assessment methods appropriate for the vocational qualification assessment criteria, and provide vital one-to-one support to learners as appropriate, ensuring you monitor their progress towards timely completion and certification.
