Job description

Our Macmillan Benefits Advice team is recruiting a specialist welfare rights caseworker to maximise the income for people with a cancer diagnosis and receiving treatment so they can focus on their journey instead of money worries.   

You will work with patients via phone and in person at our offices and outreach locations such as hospitals. Full benefits advice is provided on means-tested and non-means tested and passported support. You will do benefit checks, help with applications, negotiate and challenge decisions up to Tribunal level whilst referring to other support to ensure a holistic service. You will be highly motivated, empathic and professional able to work in a team and independent to move cases forward and meet a case target.    

Income through benefit applications, appealing decisions and representing at tribunal; you will need excellent communication and negotiation skills, able to digest complex legal information and explain it clearly with attention to detail and able to follow casework processes. You will need to be a problem solver who is able to work independently and in a team. You will need to be flexible and able to work in different environments, find solutions to problems and be highly organised with a commitment to quality.  

The ideal candidate will have excellent knowledge of social security law and experience of casework but training and a trainee position will be considered for the right candidate. A DBS will be required for this role.
