Greener and Cleaner is a grassroots charity founded in 2019 by local Bromley residents. We work with our community to enable, encourage and inspire action on climate change and sustainable living.
We are volunteer-led, collaborative and community-focused, with over 7,000 members and around 90 active volunteers. We value partnership, inclusivity and wellbeing, and aim to create non-judgemental spaces that are vibrant, supportive and regenerative.
About the Role:
As our Finance Assistant, you will support the smooth running of the charity’s financial administration. You will be organised, reliable and comfortable working with financial data, systems and processes, supporting colleagues across the organisation.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Support the financial administration and accounting function of the charity
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
- Process and reconcile income, including Gift Aid
- Process supplier invoices, expense claims, petty cash and other payments
- Reconcile bank and nominal accounts
- Support monthly payroll processes
- Work collaboratively with budget holders and fundraisers
- Contribute to the wider finance function and support the team as needed
What You Will Bring:
- Experience of working in a finance role within a UK charity
- Bookkeeping experience ideally supported by an AAT qualification or equivalent

Context and Background
The NSPCC relies on voluntary income for the majority of its work to keep children safe, prevent abuse and ensure every child has a voice. To secure long-term sustainability, the charity has reshaped how it engages supporters through the Engagement and Fundraising Directorate.
Within this, the Philanthropy and Partnerships Department brings together high-value audiences and supporter-led income. The Volunteer Board Fundraising team leads income generation through regional and national volunteer boards, volunteer-led fundraising initiatives and delivery of special events through our high value event committees. These activities play a vital role in maximising sustainable income, engaging senior volunteers, and supporting long-term supporter relationships.
The volunteer boards are made up of influential and successful senior stakeholders who feel passionately about the NSPCC and volunteer their time to help the NSPCC generate income and awareness. They employ a range of fundraising techniques to reach their goals – their focus being to use their networks and influence to secure income generating opportunities via events, corporate partnerships and major gifts from individuals.
The team works closely with colleagues in Philanthropy and Partnerships (corporate partnerships, major gifts, trusts and statutory), Public Engagement (marketing, brand, digital), and Fundraising Operations (data, compliance, finance, procurement) to ensure volunteer fundraising is integrated into supporter journeys, delivers excellent experiences, and achieves strong ROI.
With the support of a Fundraising Manager, the role of the Fundraiser is to cultivate and steward key relationships and deliver special projects across the volunteer boards and their network to deliver against annual income plans.

Person specification

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Head of Fundraising (Philanthropy and Partnerships) is a senior, hands-on role responsible for developing high-value fundraising to complement the Charity’s successful community fundraising and events programme. As we embark on our new three-year funding strategy, we are looking for an innovative and talented fundraiser with a least five years experience, to join the team and help us generate new creative partnerships and opportunities. Job purpose
This role will underpin the operation of our fundraising and membership programmes, with a mixture of public facing interactions and focused operational, database work.
Our long-standing membership scheme is an integral part of our fundraising at Action for ME, and we are fortunate to have a generous membership base of over 3,000 loyal supporters. You will be the main point of contact for our members, ensuring they feel valued and connected to our work, as well as supporting efforts to increase our current membership.
You will also be responsible for the smooth running of crucial operational processes for our membership, trading and individual giving income streams, both during fundraising campaigns and day to day. With a commitment to continuous improvement of these systems, you will help us to increase the efficiency and quality of our stewardship, retain our donors and bring in new supporters.
Key duties
Membership
- Be the main point of contact for our members and provide high quality stewardship over the phone, by email and by letter, always ensuring consistent and high-quality communication.
- Be responsible for delivering operational tasks relating to the membership scheme and improving their efficiency. Including, but not limited to, gift importing and processing, data administration, thanking members, processing renewals and sending out renewal reminders.
- Work with the Fundraising Operations Manager and our Senior Supporter Engagement Officer to monitor the performance of the membership programme and support its growth.
- Maintenance and creation of the mailing lists for our membership magazine, InterAction. Assist with the distribution of the magazine across all channels (post, email, audio).
Individual Giving & Trading
- Ensure that gifts are processed, recorded and thanked appropriately in a timely manner; and that database records are kept up to date, in line with fundraising data regulations.
- Assisting with the administration of our Winter and Spring raffles and Lottery programme.
- Work with the Fundraising Operations Manager and the wider team to maximise fundraising potential using data and donor insights/feedback.
- Maintain a high standard of data quality and record keeping on our database, ensuring our fundraising processes and procedures are applied in line with all regulatory and governance requirements including GDPR and those of the Fundraising Regulator.
- Processing all outgoing post for the Fundraising team, including online shop orders, from our Bristol office. Complete other office-based tasks as required. You will be required to work at least 50% of your hours from the office.
- Work alongside the fundraising team to deliver our strategy and workplans, including involvement in projects and fundraising campaigns as required.

The Head of Philanthropy will lead and grow the high-value philanthropy strategy, driving both unrestricted and restricted income major donors, philanthropists and senior influencers. The postholder will take direct responsibility for the Founders Circle and other existing philanthropy programme while ensuring overall strategy and income growth is not overly dependent on any single initiative. Your key stakeholders will include Trustees, the Chief Executive, the Executive Director of Fundraising & Communications as well as many senior influencers as you shape compelling philanthropic opportunities for transformational giving.
The selected candidate will have extensive experience of delivering income against agreed targets and will also have extensive experience of managing and developing relationships with existing and potential philanthropists. Team management experience is essential, as will be experience of securing six figure gifts and the ability to communicate bespoke philanthropy opportunities for high value donors.
