Financial Controller

Salary: up to £60,000 depending on experience
Location: Home-based, with occasional attendance in head office
Hours: 35 hours per week; 28 hours will also be considered
Contract: Permanent

We are supporting a purpose-led membership organisation in recruiting a Financial Controller who will play a central role in strengthening financial management, insight, and long-term sustainability.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional who wants to combine strong technical expertise with leadership, influence and social purpose.

About the Role

Reporting to a Senior Finance Lead, you will be responsible for financial controls, reporting, compliance, systems and the day-to-day finance function.

You will provide clear financial insight to senior leaders and trustees, support strategic planning and help ensure the organisation remains financially resilient.

You will also lead and develop a small finance team, build strong relationships across the organisation, and help non-finance colleagues understand and use financial information effectively.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

·       Maintain strong financial controls and ensure statutory, regulatory and governance requirements are met.

·       Deliver accurate and insightful management accounts, forecasts, variance analysis and financial commentary.

·       Lead the annual audit and year-end process, working closely with external auditors.

·       Oversee cashflow, reserves, banking and investment reporting.

·       Improve finance systems, processes and reporting, using technology and automation where appropriate.

·       Provide financial insight to support strategic planning, organisational development and decision-making.

·       Build trusted relationships with senior leaders, trustees, budget holders and colleagues across the organisation.

About You

You will be a qualified accountant or bring equivalent senior-level experience and technical expertise, with a good understanding of UK accounting standards, financial governance, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management.

You will also bring:

·       Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn financial information into practical insight.

·       Confidence communicating with finance and non-finance colleagues, senior leaders and trustees.

·       Experience improving systems and ways of working.

·       A collaborative leadership style and the ability to support and develop others.

Experience within a charity, membership body, not-for-profit or other mission-led organisation would be valuable but is not essential.
