We all share the same voice when it comes to changing the shape of the health policies of the future. And as the largest trade union of nursing staff and students in the UK – with over half a million members – all we can see are the infinite possibilities for a brighter future. Join us and you will too.
We're accredited with Investors in People Silver Standard. Our people are our greatest asset, and we want people who can contribute to our purpose in line with our values.
If you’re looking to find a workplace with strong values of fairness, social justice and the opportunity to make a real difference to thousands of nursing professionals, then the Organiser role may be a good fit for you.
As an Organiser you will work across the UK supporting the development and delivering of key organising activity, drives and campaigns. You’ll be working closely with members and RCN staff developing strong nursing leaders and building effective structures that support members to win on the issues that matter to them and the nursing profession.
It's a job full of possibilities as you could get involved in anything from member engagement using digital technology; developing workplace teams; to co-producing with member and staff stakeholders a deep organising campaign.
The ability to foster strong professional relationships and encourage close collaboration between members is at the heart of this role. The ideal candidate will be able to evidence both knowledge of, and experience in organising tactics and tools. The ability to identify, recruit, train, develop and inspire member leaders and activists is at the heart of this role. Your experience should demonstrate your proven ability to identify issues and leaders, develop member structures that support their capacity to act and facilitate participation with people from an array of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
We’re looking for someone who can work as part of a team while hitting individual targets, who is a go-getter and can follow the direction set by their direct line manager, the Head of Organising and the overall strategic direction of the Organising Programme. Most importantly you will have a commitment to grow a deeper understanding of the theory and practice of Organising which will help to shape the RCN’s Organising Programme.
What we offer you
We expect you to work hard as a professional and alongside members on organising drives under the direction of the Organising Programme strategy. And we expect you to be rewarded for it. *We offer a competitive pay structure with annual pay progression until you reach the top of the salary scale. We normally offer new employees the first point of the salary range, although you may be able to negotiate a higher starting salary depending on your skills, experience and current salary.
What we deliver for our members is wide and varied so when it comes to how we work one size doesn’t fit all. We also know that to empower our people to do their best work, they must be able to balance the demands of work and home. We are a diverse organisation and understand everyone has different needs and many of our employees enjoy flexible working enabling them to deliver results whilst having a good work life balance. Departments and directorates have their own hybrid ways of working which put the needs of the service they deliver first– whether that’s to members or to colleagues - at their heart, in alignment with our hybrid working core principles. At the RCN it’s unlikely you will work from home for all of your working time. Equally no one is expected to work solely in the office unless your role requires it. Together with more than 200 public research and industry allies worldwide, we use the power of partnership, innovation, open science, and advocacy to find solutions to a great injustice: the lack of medicines for life-threatening diseases that disproportionately impact poor and marginalized people. Driven by collaboration, not competition, and by patients’ needs, not profits, we promote equitable access, foster inclusive and sustainable solutions, and advocate for a more effective global biomedical R&D system that meets the needs of neglected patients.
13 new treatments for people with Sleeping Sickness, Visceral Leishmaniasis, Chagas disease, HIV, Hepatitis C, and Malaria that have saved millions of lives.
