Key responsibilities 

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director is responsible for shaping and driving the work of the organisation, in line with its mission, vision, and strategic plan. 

The Executive Director has responsibility for the effective management and financial sustainability of the organisation; for leading the team and developing HRI’s strategic vision and operational plans; for representing the organisation to external stakeholders and the media; and for championing an inclusive and collaborative culture that foregrounds racial justice and diversity. The Executive Director must also fulfil all the legal, ethical, fiduciary and financial obligations of the role. 

The Executive Director’s key responsibilities are:

Organisational leadership and governance 

• Shape, drive and champion the organisation's vision, strategy and big picture thinking 

• Maintain HRI’s role and reputation as a leading international influencer and convenor in the field of harm reduction and human rights

• Provide strong, clear and proactive leadership on racial justice and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

• Champion an inclusive, collaborative, high performance culture that attracts, retains and motivates a diverse, expert staff team

• Build and maintain relationships with key external partners and stakeholders, including NGOs, networks of people who use drugs, donors, UN agencies, national governments, and opinion formers.

• Represent and promote HRI at its own and other conferences and networking events, United Nations fora, donor meetings, key civil society initiatives, and in the media.

• Facilitate the Board of Trustees’ active engagement in scrutiny, strategic planning, and resourcing and financial management

• Keep the Board fully informed of the overall health and performance of the organisation, and all relevant factors influencing this

• Ensure the smooth operation of Board meetings and maintain a strong, balanced Board, with effective succession planning

Financial Management and Fundraising

• Develop a realistic annual budget and operational plan for approval by the Board and prepare budget revisions as needed 

• Ensure provision of regular financial management, monitoring and reporting to the Board

• Provide financial risk assessment reports and mitigation strategies to the Board in a timely fashion 

• Ensure the financial sustainability of HRI and its capacity to achieve its strategic objectives

• Devise and implement fundraising strategies and plans to ensure that the organisation can meet its operational budgetary needs 

• Identify and engage with fundraising prospects and sources, and cultivate relationships with current and prospective funders

Operational and Management

• Oversee all aspects of programme planning development and evaluation

• Ensure that all programme components are strategically coordinated and contribute to overall organisational objectives

• Oversee further development of a communications strategy that positions HRI effectively, protects its reputation, and identifies opportunities to promote its key messages and activities

• Recruit and manage staff, and ensure appropriate organisational structures with clear roles and responsibilities 

• Ensure regular performance evaluations, feedback loops, and training and professional development and education for all staff

• Manage administrative matters relating to staff, including legal and health and safety requirements, and required policies and processes 

• Oversee risk management and legal activities: letters of agreement, contracts, leases and other legal documents and agreements

• Implement appropriate policies, including internal controls and accounting standards and procedures

We're looking for an IT Project Manager to join our Data and IT team. The IT Project Manager will oversee the planning, implementation and tracking of assigned IT projects within the charity. You'll be responsible for managing the project team, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget and meet quality standards. You'll serve as a liaison between various stakeholders, including clients, internal teams and vendors, to ensure effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle. You'll also identify and mitigate risks, resolve issues and provide regular progress reports to stakeholders.

My client is the leading charity stopping the heartbreak and devastation of baby loss and making pregnancy and birth safe for everyone. Working across the whole pregnancy journey, the organisation funds ground-breaking research, campaigns for changes to maternity care and provides expert information and support.

At present they are looking to appoint an interim Chief Operating Officer to provide maternity cover for the permanent postholder and support the organisation with the implementation of a new and ambitious strategic plan.

Key responsibilities:

• Ensure the efficient, effective development and running of the organisation’s core operations including finance, HR, IT and facilities.
• As a key member of the SLT, support the charity in executing its strategic plan, driving changes needed for the growth and development of the organisation.

Tearfund is looking for a part time Governance Manager and Company Secretary to support the effective governance of the Board, including supporting the Chair and the Board in fulfilling their legal and regulatory obligations and promoting best governance practice. The role will also be responsible for coordinating administrative, logistical and practical support to the Board, including online and occasional in-person Board meetings.  This role would also oversee the regulatory and registration requirements for our offices overseas.

The role is based in Teddington, reporting to our Chair of the Board and Head of Legal and working within the Finance and IT Group.  The role will be responsible for providing high level support and advice to the Board, Chair, CEO and Board Committees, ensuring that the Trustees understand their roles and are appropriately recruited, inducted and supported to fulfil their roles. The role will also be responsible for all the necessary reporting and filing requirements required by Companies House and the Charity Commission in their capacity as Company Secretary. 

The successful applicant will be:

• educated to degree level (or equivalent) and ideally with a UK legal qualification
• self motivated 
• analytical
• detailed
• customer service focused with good interpersonal skills
• flexible and have strong digital literacy and advanced skills in both Google Suite and Microsoft applications

Hybrid working: This role is eligible for hybrid working and you will be required to work from the Teddington Tearfund office and from your home by agreement with the line manager.

Contract: This is a part time (21 hours per week) contract. The full time salary is £49,127 per annum and the part time salary is £29,476 per annum.  The successful candidate will need to travel to different locations across the UK to facilitate festivals and events as required.

The recruitment process will include specific checks related to safeguarding issues. In addition, personal identification information will be submitted against a Watchlist database to check against criminal convictions as a counter-terror measure.
