As a key member of the Academy’s Science Base and Careers Policy team, the Policy Manager will work closely with the Head of Science Base and Careers Policy and senior stakeholders to contribute to the Academy’s strategic priority to Strengthen Research.

The Academy’s “Future-proofing UK Health Research: a people-centred, coordinated approach” report concluded that strong coordination is essential for UK health research. In this role, you’ll work directly with leading figures from across public, private and charitable sectors to enhance coordination, including through providing the secretariat to the UK Clinical Research Collaboration. You will also support wider implementation of the Academy’s report on “Future-proofing UK Health Research” and will line manage a Policy Officer.

We are looking for somebody who is committed to improving health for all supported by the best research and evidence, has strong stakeholder management skills, the ability to summarise complex information, and thrives on working with others to produce high quality outputs. You’ll normally have a degree or equivalent and work experience in a relevant area. Knowledge of the UK health research landscape is essential.

· Lead and develop Tommy’s supporter acquisition strategy taking an audience-first approach to activity, using a range of tactics including paid digital, SEO and email.

· Lead the team to manage and optimise paid campaigns across platforms including search, social, and other relevant channels to maximise brand engagement and income.

· With a focus on acquisition, work alongside the Supporter Engagement Manager to keep new and existing supporter journeys updated and on brand.

· Develop creative, engaging content in line with our content and channel strategies for campaigns and projects, working closely with the wider marketing and fundraising.

· Support an integrated cross-departmental approach with Tommy’s individual giving, mass fundraising and partnership fundraising teams to support income generation and growth.

· Work in collaboration with fundraising project teams in the development and marketing of new products, events and campaigns, providing marketing expertise at every stage of the process from inception to delivery.

· Champion a supporter-first approach, rooted in audience insight.

· Use data and insights to map and analyse audience behaviour to inform marketing and fundraising activity (GA4, brand insights, market research).

· Analyse and use data insight to implement continual improvements and optimisations to campaigns and initiatives to hit OKRs.

· Support in creating and updating tracking dashboards to monitor performance

Person Specification:

· Experienced with project management.

· Strong performance marketing experience (including paid social media advertising, PPC, SEO)

· Knowledge of social media content strategies across paid and organic.

· Experience of building lasting relationships with a range of stakeholders.

· Content management systems (ideally Drupal).

· Adobe creative suite.

We’re looking for someone with experience of both campaigning, including an understanding of the basic tools and techniques used in campaigning, and of working with volunteers and services users, including how best to support them to achieve their campaigning goals.

About the role 

You’ll lead and coordinate our local campaigning work across Wales. Your work will help the charity improve the lives of people in local communities affected by Parkinson’s. You’ll listen to the needs of our local communities and work with volunteers and colleagues in the wider Wales team to do focussed campaigning and advocacy work. 

Through co-production you’ll ensure that the voices of people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers are heard by decision makers.

What you’ll do:

• Support the development and delivery of campaigns activity for Wales and proactively identify opportunities for public-facing campaigns.

• Recruit and manage a sustainable community of campaign volunteers.

• Use our national campaign priorities to deliver related local campaign activity.

• Organise and deliver training events for people with lived experience who wish to engage as well as campaign volunteers.

• Create content for public facing elements of campaigns, including supporter actions, web pages, newsletter and social media.

What you’ll bring:

• Ability to network and build supportive relationships with volunteers, MSs/MPs and health bodies. 

• Ability to work independently, coproductively and as a part of a team. 

• Experience in organising events. 

• Experience of delivering training to a variety of audiences 

• Excellent written and oral communication and client care skills, including a confident phone manner and an ability to produce inspiring content to motivate volunteers and staff.

Audit Project Coordinator

The National Neonatal Audit Programme (NNAP) Project Coordinator is an instrumental role for the College in which you will support the delivery of a high-quality national clinical audit along with supporting improvements in neonatal care for babies and their families.

As Audit Project Coordinator, you will coordinate the collection of high-quality audit data, and be responsible for coordinating sub-projects and spotlight audits.

Acting as the first point of contact for audit process and data enquiries received from hospital units, regional network leads and other stakeholder organisations, you will take responsibility for responding to each enquiry using your detailed knowledge of the audit methodology.

You will also respond to queries relating to the NNAP methodology and support paediatric services within NHS Health Boards, Trusts and Networks to understand and use NNAP results to inform quality improvement activities, as well as monitoring NNAP participation rates to define, execute and promote improvements to data submission processes.

Reporting to the NNAP Project Manager, you will conduct testing and quality assurance of audit software systems, liaising with software developers to evaluate, improve and update online data submission and reporting processes, whilst preparing updates to project webpages, user guidance and promotional materials for audit submission and participation. In addition, you will coordinate project webinars, workshops and national events for the NNAP and represent the NNAP at conferences to help promote NNAP activities.

You will also prepare and disseminate audit outputs and publications for different audiences, including audit commissioners and funders, children, young people and families, and NHS services participating in the audit.

Degree qualified or with equivalent experience in a mathematical or numerate discipline, you should have proven experience of producing high-quality written reports and promotional information, suitable for a range of audiences.

With strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, a high level of numeracy and the ability to interrogate large, complex datasets in Excel or statistical packages, you should have a background of working in a health-related or research setting.

Your project management experience along with your proven organisational skills and your ability to adopt an orderly and precise approach to work should ensure you are able to take personal responsibility for your own projects.

Demonstrable experience of engaging and communicating with stakeholders effectively, along with a proven understanding of information governance, data protection and confidentiality processes are essential.

A project management certification/qualification, knowledge and experience of the use of statistical packages, and a general understanding of a clinical audit and the reasons why clinical conditions are audited locally and nationally, would be desirable. 

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health sets and maintains standards for the education and training of all doctors working in paediatrics and child health in the UK. Additionally, through a variety of activities, the College influences the quality of medical practice for children in hospital and in the community.
