Job Summary
The Head of Governance is responsible for the effective and efficient running of the key governance bodies of the Diocese of London and its main charity, the London Diocesan Fund, providing strategic governance, constitutional and compliance advice to the Bishop of London, General Secretary and Trustees, offering first line advice and training service to deaneries and parishes on synodical governance.

Following an increased funding arrangement for the Students’ Union with the University from £420,000 to £581,000 for the 2024/25 financial year (one of the few Students’ Unions in the country to receive a significant block grant rise this year), we are now opening recruitment for several positions to put in place the staffing structure we need to be able to deliver for students. Job Purpose
The Director of Commercial and Operations is a pivotal role within our Students' Union, ensuring both the operational excellence and commercial success of our diverse activities and services. You'll provide strategic leadership to our commercial ventures, oversee the seamless delivery of HR and finance functions, and play a key role in securing the financial sustainability and growth of the Union. This is a high-impact opportunity for a strategic and commercially-minded leader to shape the future of our organisation and make a real difference in the lives of our students.
This role is a two year contracted position with the goal of ensuring our commercial services are able to become self-funding, and not requiring a subsidy from the Students’ Union’s core income received from the University. Strategic Leadership

Governance & Compliance
- Write reports for the board as and when required by the CEO in a timely and appropriate manner
- Work with the Director of Finance & Ops to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the charity in delegated budget area(s), adhere to TAC Financial Regulations and Procurement Policy.
- Ensure that all artist contracting is undertaken within TAC procurements and contracting policies observing all other required policies and statutory guidelines e.g., Equalities, Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Intellectual Property, GDPR, Finance and Procurements etc.
- Maintain accurate records on The Africa Centre’s document management system and databases.
- Respond to general enquiries by email or telephone, manage own workload and maintain an online diary, using agreed TAC systems.
- To promote and comply with current legislation including The Africa Centre policies on Equality and Diversity and Health & Safety, Safeguarding, in the delivery of services and the

Leadership
- Be a vital, collegiate member of the TAC Senior leadership team,

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- A clearly-evidenced long-standing passion for Africa and people of African Descent
- 3 - 5 years working at a senior level in a similar role
- Excellent Programme Management experience with excellent budget management skills
- Excellent communication and networking skills, adept at effectively engaging people across a range of settings – from school children to Prime Ministers and Presidents;
- Educated to degree level of equivalent (relevant subject area)
- Team player, able to work cross disciplinary with artists, experts, academics, key stakeholders, and audiences in a programming function working with diverse audiences
