The Head of People and Organisational Development will report into the Finance Director and will be responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of the people, strategies, policies, procedures and technologies that together form the organisation’s HR function.

Every day, over 1,800 people trust us with their tip-offs: our staff filter that information to ensure that they are never identified before passing on what we’re told to the relevant police force or agency.
The information we are given covers everything from murder and serious assaults, firearms, domestic abuse, modern slavery, to drugs including exploitation and gang violence. We also help prevent everything from bombs to acid attacks with sensitive, time critical intelligence that prevents injury and helps save lives.
The role:
- Driving the strategic development of human resources, organisational capabilities and culture.
- Developing, implementing and overseeing the people, strategy, and associated policies, procedures and processes that together form the HR function, which not only reflect industry best practice and run smoothly, but also foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Strategy & Development

- Contribute significantly to payroll processing and pension procedures.
- Oversee the processes for the student staff payroll.
- Ensure the smooth running of the HR department.
Governance
- Ensure compliance with right to work and other legislation relevant to the Union’s operations.
- Ensure that major processes within the Union are auditable and follow the Union’s formal procedures.
Staff Leadership and Development
- Drive a high performing, inclusive culture across Reading SU.
- Lead and inspire staff, providing clear direction, guidance, and support including giving and receiving feedback.
- Act as lead for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion within the Union. Ensure that our activities in this area reflect the values of the Union and the University.
- Foster a positive working environment, encouraging teamwork, collaboration, excellent customer service and a positive values led culture.
- Identify and manager staff training and development needs, organising appropriate training programs to enhance skills and knowledge.

THE ROLE
Responsible and accountable for evolving the Woodland Trust’s diversity and inclusion action plan to drive improvement and impact across our four pillars of success. Women in Prison is the main national charity focused on women in the criminal justice sector. We exist to support women facing multiple marginalisation and exclusion, who have been let down, and their rights denied. We believe that prison doesn’t work and we want to see an end to the harmful imprisonment of women in England and Wales.
Our staff team are passionate, ambitious and grounded in the reality of women’s lives.
