The role

We’re seeking an innovative Head of Research to join our fantastic Support, Research and Influencing Directorate team and help us improve survival for people with pancreatic cancer.

Currently, pancreatic cancer has a five-year survival rate of just 7% due to late diagnosis and a lack of effective treatments. As our Head of Research, you’ll help us work with leading pancreatic cancer experts to develop an innovative strategy to accelerate research into this devastating disease in the UK. Pancreatic Cancer UK invests around £2.5 million in research each year. You’ll lead on developing and delivering our research programme to ensure we invest this money well and fund quality research that will have an impact.

• You’ll have a strong track record in developing and implementing research strategy that drives impact.
• You’ll take an innovative approach to research activity, learning from others in the community and incorporating new ideas that can accelerate progress in meeting research objectives.

We are currently looking for an Academic Training and Development Lead at the Francis Crick Institute. In this role you’ll work alongside the Head of Academic Programmes, to design and deliver innovative, inclusive training programmes for our PhD students and postdocs, supporting the next generation of scientific leaders. Leading a small team, you will work closely with colleagues across the Crick and our university partners to ensure our training offer reflects the evolving needs of interdisciplinary research.

What you will be doing

• Provide support to the Head of Academic Programmes to deliver the Crick PhD and Postdoc programmes
• Design and implement, alongside the Academic Training and Career Development Project Manager, a new Crick Postdoc Development Framework
• Lead, develop, motivate and performance manage the Academic Training and Career Development Project Manager to deliver their objectives
• Identify and consider the development of new science training and researcher development programmes for Crick PhD students and postdocs

What you will bring

• Experience of working at a senior level in a dynamic scientific environment and higher education/research setting*

• Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the management, training and development of staff in research and technology groups, preferably through experience
• Educated to PhD level and with post-PhD experience in a science discipline, or relevant, significant experience*

Plumstead Community Law Centre is a free specialist legal advice charity located in central Woolwich in South East London. We provide specialist legal advice and advocacy in the areas of immigration, welfare benefits and employment People can access our services via telephone or email, and through the Advice Hub outreach services we attend in local community centres. In 2024 over 1,400 local people accessed our advice and representation services, resulting in a range of financial and non-financial benefits.

The Finance Manager is a key member of the wider Finance and Operations team and will lead the finance function of the charity and provide excellent finance support for the Senior Executive.

ROLE PURPOSE

To manage the finance function of the charity and provide excellent finance support for the Senior Executive which will include:

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Staff management

1.1. Carry out all line management duties in line with organisational policy and procedure, including:

• Diversity and inclusion - encouraging an inclusive environment.
• Recruiting and inducting good quality staff o Proactively addressing performance, conduct or other employee relations issues.
• Support and coach your direct report to ensure objectives and development goals are achieved.

2. Management of Income and Payments Processing Operations

2.1. Responsible for ensuring that all fundraising and investment income is accurately recorded in the finance system.

2.2. Ensure the reconciliation of all income data from the bank against Raiser’s Edge (CRM system) to ensure data is accurate and complete and then recorded in the finance system once reconciled.

2.3. Manage an efficient and effective Accounts Payable function, ensuring that the work performed by the Senior Finance Assistant is at the required standard.

2.4. Lead on all communications with internal stakeholders, including Trust finance and Special Purpose Fund Advisers, to resolve any issues arising and produce monitoring reports on a regular basis.

3. Transactional accounting and fund management

3.1. Ensure systems are in place to identify and correctly record restricted donations, so that these are properly monitored and utilised.

4. Financial Control Framework

4.1. In consultation with the Director of Finance & Operations, ensure that appropriate controls, processes and procedures are in place, regularly reviewed and assessed for operational effectiveness.

4.2. Review and update Finance Procedures and effectively communicate these to staff, arranging training where necessary, within the Finance Department and across the Charity.

4.3. Ensure effective maintenance of the balance sheet, including regular key control account reconciliations (bank and other).

4.4. Monitoring of balances with the Trust, ensuring these are promptly settled, with discrepancies investigated and resolved.

5. Management Reporting

5.1. Delivery of timely and accurate monthly management accounts for the Charity, including enhancing the production process and communication of timetables.

5.2. Co-ordinate the production of narrative reports to support review by the Director of Finance & Operations.

6. Financial reporting and audit

6.1. Lead the Finance team in the production of financial statements which are fully compliant with the Charity SORP to meet required audit and Board approval deadlines.

6.2. Lead the relationship with external auditors and all arrangements surrounding the annual audit fieldwork.

6.3. Preparing required audit documentation in accordance with agreed timetables. 

7. Budgeting and Forecasting

7.1. Assist the Director of Finance & Operations in the production of annual budgets, working closely with budget holders within the Charity to ensure completed in accordance with agreed timescales.

7.2. Lead on the quarterly re-forecast process, producing relevant analyses to understand and monitor key changes.

8. Banking and Investments

8.1. Work alongside the Director of Finance & Operations to maintain a strong relationship with the Charity’s banking and investment managers and take the lead on the day to day administration of the banking arrangements.

8.2. Ensure that bank mandates are up to date.

9. Systems and Data

9.1. Finance system

• Liaise with Application’s Supplier and Trust Systems support team in the maintenance and development of the finance system, ensuring essential maintenance are carried out as necessary to prevent cyber fraud and maintain data integrity.
• Provide support to the Finance team for the accounting functionality within the finance accounting application and its integrated systems.

9.2. System maintenance and training

• Support the Director of Finance and Operations with managing user access, permissions and privileges on the finance system, ensuring that any changes to staff are reflected immediately.
• Ensure all new staff are trained on the Finance System and that current staff receive updates as necessary.

Any other duties commensurate with the post as requested by the Director of Finance & Operations.

• Oversee the development of newsletters and donor communications that build long-term loyalty.

Operational Fundraising Management

• Oversee donation processing, database management, and tracking of fundraising KPIs.
• Coordinate with UK and Uganda teams to align messaging, campaigns, and compliance.
• Provide strategic oversight of volunteer-led and community fundraising initiatives.

Team Collaboration & Leadership

• Line manage junior fundraising support if applicable.
• Work collaboratively with programme, comms, finance, and impact teams to ensure donor requirements are met and learning is shared.
• Contribute to organisational learning on ethical fundraising, locally-led development, and shifting power to communities.

Person Specification

Essential

• Proven experience in business development and fundraising (minimum 3 years), ideally in the social impact or NGO sector. 
• Track record of securing income from trusts, foundations, or major donors.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
• Strong relationship-building skills, from individual supporters to institutional donors.
• Organised, proactive, and adaptable, able to juggle multiple priorities in a small, fast-moving team.
• Commitment to Child’s i’s values and vision, and to ethical fundraising grounded in dignity and equity.

Desirable

• Experience working in East Africa or with Global South-led organisations.
• Familiarity and confidence with use of CRM systems. We use Beacon. 
• Understanding of child protection, care reform, or community development sectors.

Our partner is seeking a consultant to conduct a review of its finance function, including structure, processes and systems with a view of improving effectiveness and efficiency. This exercise stems from the fact that the finance function of the organisation has developed organically over the course of the organisation’s life and growth, covering the expansion of programmes and the opening of new administrative offices.

Scope of the Review

• Review of the current structure - assess what functions are best delivered in each location, the skillset of finance staff and what capacity is needed in each location to deliver these services.
• Review of the processes and systems; and make recommendations on how processes might be streamlined to address bottlenecks and streamline these.
• Advise on how the finance function might operate more effectively as a global function
• Advise on what IT/systems solutions might further improve efficiency

Requirements

• A qualified senior finance professional with experience of change management within an international not for profit, specifically reviewing the structure of the finance function, undertaking in-depth review and analysis of global processes and systems.
• Experience of working in a complex grant-funded environment with knowledge of full grants cycle management.
• Strong relationship building, communication and influencing skills.

About the Role: Legal Manager

As Legal Manager, you’ll play a central role in delivering high-quality, trauma informed legal services to people in immigration detention.

You’ll supervise and support our brilliant Legal Volunteers, manage your own caseload, oversee BID’s advice line and legal surgeries, and contribute to training and mentoring volunteers starting their legal careers. You’ll also support our policy and advocacy team by identifying systemic issues from our legal work that require wider change.

This is a new senior leadership role created through Inclusion North’s restructure. It is central to how we rebuild our strategic presence in Yorkshire and Humber while ensuring strong, joined-up working across the Northeast.

You will lead high-level engagement across both regions, with a particular focus on Yorkshire and Humber. In this region, you will help Inclusion North reconnect, build strategic partnerships, and become a visible and valued voice in system-level spaces.

You will take a lead in representing Inclusion North across a range of regional spaces, including Communities of Practice, local authority-led forums, and, where appropriate, ICB-related groups. This means helping shape change, influence commissioning, and ensure that the voices of people with a learning disability, autistic people, and family carers are heard where decisions are made. You will also be expected to challenge constructively when systems fall short of inclusion, equity, or lived experience leadership.

You will line manage the Innovation and Impact Manager and the Good Life Collaborative Programme Lead. This includes overseeing how our delivery connects to system priorities, responds to emerging opportunities, and contributes to our financial sustainability. You will also provide strategic insight to support planning, funding, and future direction.

This is a leadership role for someone who can build trust, speak with credibility, and stand firm in their values. You will need the insight to understand how systems work, and the confidence to push for change when they do not work for the people they are meant to serve.

Creative Support is seeking committed Waking Night Support Workers for an exciting opportunity to join our team under the Transforming Care Agenda using a Trauma Informed approach. The Intensive Support Service provides bespoke supported living services in the Bury/Heywood area of Greater Manchester to adults over the age of 18 with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs and complex needs.

The service operates 24/7 using a trauma informed and case management model of care to provide support and opportunities for increased independence in the community for three adults. In your role as Waking Night Support Worker, you will support residents with shopping, cooking or baking, household tasks and meeting personal care needs, as well as meeting unique personal goals. You will be happy working in a consistent, predictable way, enjoying a calm and quiet environment that meets each individual service user’s needs.

Experience of working in the care sector is desirable but not essential, as we will provide all training necessary for the role. Staff members recruited will initially be required to work dynamically between the Registered Office, service and current care provision to ensure service users experience a well-planned transition into their new home.
