Job description

Let’s prevent suicide today, because tomorrow’s too late.

At Samaritans, we’re here every hour, every day, for every life. And we know that in order to support others, we must also take care of each other.

We’re looking for a compassionate, proactive and thoughtful Wellbeing Lead to help embed a culture of care and connection across Samaritans - for our staff, our volunteers, and everyone who plays a part in our mission.

About the Contract

  • Initially a 12month fixed term contract
  • Salary £33,000 - £37,000 per annum
  • Full time (35 hours per week)
  • We are passionate about flexible working, talk to us about your preferences.
  • Hybrid working: Linked to our Ewell (Surrey) office.
  • In-person working: Meeting in person and working collaboratively are things we value. Staff are expected to work in person around 2 days per month.

About the Role

As our Wellbeing Lead, you’ll play a key role in ensuring wellbeing is not just something we talk about but becomes something we live and breathe across the organisation.

In your work you'll:

  • Design and lead a cross organisational wellbeing strategy that reflects the voices and needs of our people.
  • Deliver inclusive initiatives that build resilience, support mental health and encourage connection.
  • Use data and insight to evaluate what’s working and make it even better.
  • Collaborate with leaders, volunteers and partners to make wellbeing an integrated part of our culture.
  • Coordinate campaigns, awareness weeks and peer support offers that align with Samaritans' values and calendar.
  • Act as the central point of expertise, supporting others to confidently embed wellbeing into daily working life.

You’ll champion a culture where people feel safe, seen and supported, because we know that wellbeing is fundamental to everything we do.

  • A strong understanding of wellbeing issues such as mental health, stress, and psychological safety.
  • The confidence to use insight and data to shape solutions and influence others.
  • An inclusive approach, with a deep commitment to equity, diversity, and embedding lived experience in your work.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to build trust at every level.
  • Experience working with both employees and volunteers or in a charity/mission-led organisation would be beneficial.

Why join Samaritans

Samaritans is one of the UK and Ireland’s best known and respected charities - our vision is that fewer people die by suicide. In these challenging socio-economic times, Samaritans is needed more than ever. If you want to make a real difference to people’s lives – this is the role for you!

For further information about Samaritans, including our charity structure, values, employee benefits, and application process, please read our recruitment brochure available here. You can also visit our careers website to access this.

We recognise the enormous benefits and the social justice imperatives of ensuring diversity at every level of our organisation. Samaritans is wholly committed to inclusion and diversity and to building a culture and environment where everyone is appreciated for the unique person they are. To ensure Samaritans is representative of those we support and who support us, we particularly welcome applications from disabled, racialised minority and LGBTQ+ candidates, as these people are under-represented at Samaritans.

Apply now and be part of something meaningful.

We’re moving faster than usual for this role because it’s critical to our current work. While this isn’t our usual approach, on this occasion we may need to interview candidates ahead of the closing date. We value your time and interest in our cause and in this case, we recommend only applying if you are able to start quickly, and are also available to attend virtual interviews in the weeks either leading up to or immediately after the closing date for applications.

If you're passionate about creating a culture where people feel able to care for themselves and others and you’re ready to help shape how we do that at Samaritans then we’d love to hear from you.

Please upload your CV and answer the questions in the application. Applications will close at midnight on Thursday 17 July 2025, with video interviews currently scheduled to take place w/c 7 and 14 July, if suitable applications are received before the closing date.

We kindly ask that you don’t rely on AI tools for your application answers, or to generate interview answers. We want to see your own unique ideas and writing skills. We want your application to stand out from the rest and showcase your own strengths.
