We are recruiting Trustee Board Members!
Brassington Community Heating Management Trust, (BCH), is recruiting enthusiastic directors and volunteers to manage a new board of trustees which it intends setting up to own and run the village heating network that is currently being designed by Equans Ltd.
Location: Remote-based within UK (preferably Derbyshire)
Remuneration: Volunteer
Start Date: October/November 2025
Time: 1-2 days per month
Overview
Brassington is a lively Derbyshire village on the edge of the Peak District & one mile north of Carsington Water and the edge of the Peak Park. It has 233 houses, two farms, and two small industrial facilities. The village is not connected to the gas grid, and oil, LPG, or solid fuels heat the majority of homes. The centre & northern part of the village is predominantly older, solid-walled housing, much of it terraced and built directly onto the limestone substratum. The southern area is predominantly characterised by 1950s semi-detached housing, with some newer properties interspersed throughout. The roads in the centre of the village are narrow & some houses face directly onto narrow ‘jitties’.
BCH was founded in 2021, and it aimed to develop a cheaper means of providing heat and hot water for the village community than was then available. We were aware of the heat network which was being constructed by Swaffham Prior village in Cambridgeshire, and were also conscious that such networks were common practice in Scandinavia and N. Europe. A heat network offers an effective way of reducing the high carbon impact of heating and hot water used in the village. It also enables the removal of oil and LPG tanks, improves air quality, and eliminates the liability to replace defunct boilers in individual households.
Job Purpose
We are looking for board members/trustees to manage the proposed Trust, which will own and run the heat network on behalf of the village community once it has been designed, built and commissioned by BCH. If you are interested in community energy, want to be part of an organisation actively tackling climate change, and have time to spare each month, we would love to hear from you!
