Organisation: Swindon & Gloucestershire Mind

Swindon & Gloucestershire Mind is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Counsellor to join the team at the Alexandra Wellbeing House Service in Gloucester. The Alexandra Wellbeing House Service is a non-clinical mental health day service supporting adults across Gloucestershire who are experiencing, or at risk of, a Mental Health Crisis.

Following an initial two weeks of Wellbeing-focused support, the service provides optional counselling to those who may benefit from a further period of therapeutic intervention — particularly those engaging in self-harming behaviours who wish to explore alternative coping strategies.

About the Role

As a Volunteer Counsellor, you will:

  • Provide short-term Counselling (8 sessions) to those accessing the Alexandra Wellbeing House Service. This may include therapeutic support to individuals engaging in self-harming behaviours.
  • Work within a non-clinical, recovery-focused environment
  • Support individuals to explore alternative ways of coping and to develop resilience.
  • Be part of a dynamic, supportive team delivering a unique mental health service.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a minimum of 1 year's experience (or equivalent) of working with adults in a Mental Health setting.
  • Be currently undertaking Level 4 (or equivalent) Counselling training.
  • Be able to work in line with the BACP Ethical Framework (or equivalent).
  • Understand issues of confidentiality, safeguarding, diversity, and professional boundaries.
  • Be committed to their own personal and professional development (engaging in personal therapy is strongly encouraged).
