Job description

Join our Learning & Engagement team and help inspire young people through the delivery of our engaging History & STEM workshops.

What is the role?

The Learning & Engagement team deliver a variety of workshops to young people of all ages. With a focus on History and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths). We are looking to enhance our programme as part of our Midlands Development Programme to further engage with schools, using the RAF Stories and Collections.  

As a Learning Delivery Volunteer, you will support the Learning & Engagement team with the delivery of our learning programme. This will include both History & STEM-related workshops, alongside learning events. Workshops range between 30 minutes and 90 minutes in length.

Our history workshops based around the First World War and Second World War: Battle of Britain, The Blitz, Flying Equipment 1914-present day, and many more! Workshops may use PowerPoint presentations and include a hands-on element with our handling collection.

Our STEM workshops include a wide variety of hands-on, engaging sessions such as Rockets, Lego and coding workshops.

What will I be doing?

·      Supporting the Learning & Engagement team by delivering History and STEM workshops to visiting schools, and workshops to families during Learning events

·         Inspiring an interest in history, science, technology, engineering and maths through engaging, hands-on activities

·         Collaborating with fellow volunteers and staff

·         Following the guidance of the Learning, Engagement & Participation Manager

·         Presenting the core themes outlined in the session plan for each workshop

This role is perfect for you if you…

·        Are aged 18 or over

·        Have an interest in engaging young people with the RAF story

·        Have great attention to detail

·        Are an effective team player

·        Are willing to learn new skills

·        Would feel confident delivering sessions to students on your own

·        Have good time-keeping skills

·        Are comfortable communicating with colleagues, visiting school staff, visiting school children and families

·        Will adhere to legislation and practices around delivering to young people

 

Learning Delivery Volunteers will attend training and shadow colleagues when they join the team.

What happens next?

Suitable volunteers will have an informal chat with the line manager to discuss the role and their suitability.

A basic DBS check is required for this role. The Museum will arrange for this to take place for successful applicants.
