Board Adviser
The Board Adviser supports the Board by offering governance insight and advice, helping Together Co to operate effectively, meet it’s legal responsibilities, and deliver its mission with integrity and confidence. Working closely with the Chair of Trustees, CEO, and Senior Leadership Team, the Board Adviser supports effective governance, strong decision-making, and clear records, helping create the foundations that allow our services, volunteers, and staff to thrive.
Governance and Legal Compliance
- Become a source of guidance on the charity’s governing documents and good governance practice.
- Support awareness of legal and regulatory obligations, including Charity Commission and Companies House requirements.
- Support the preparation and timely submission of annual reports, accounts, and statutory returns.
- Support the Senior Leadership Team in scheduling, reviewing, and updating governance-related policies.
- Highlight emerging governance or regulatory risks for trustee discussion
Trustee Appointments, Induction, and Development
- Support the Chair and Board to ensure trustee appointments, reappointments, and stand-down processes follow the Articles and agreed procedures.
- Coordinate completion and updating of trustee declarations, eligibility checks, and governance registers.
- Support the governance elements of trustee induction so new trustees understand their roles, responsibilities, and the charity’s governance framework.
- Coordinate ongoing trustee training and development opportunities.
- Support the Board in succession planning for key governance roles.
Board and Meeting Support
- Support the Chair in planning Board and committee meetings, including agenda preparation and forward planning.
- Support clear and transparent processes for declaring and managing conflicts of interest in line with policy.
- Attend Board and committee meetings.
- Take accurate minutes, clearly recording decisions, actions, and agreed responsibilities.
- Support follow-up on agreed actions.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and well-organised meeting culture
Person Specification
Essential:
- Commitment to Together Co’s mission and values.
- Interest in or willingness to learn about charity governance and legal responsibilities.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly.
Desirable:
- Experience in governance, compliance, or charity administration.
- Familiarity with Charity Commission processes.
- Understanding of good governance practice, risk, and conflicts of interest.
