Job description

Are you a developing marketing or fundraising professional looking for a new challenge? Join Samaritans to help make sure we can be there, always, for people who need us in the future.

Samaritans is looking for a Marketing and Fundraising Officer to join their Donor Engagement team on a fixed term contract covering maternity leave. This role raises vital funds for the future by organising marketing campaigns and managing key fundraising products to grow income from gifts in Wills and in memory giving.

Why this role at Samaritans

You’ll build relationships with supporters in person and remotely, ranging from individual supporters to large scale campaigns, across different channels. Join our team as we are growing our work and testing creative new approaches.

Internally this role is called Legacy and In Memory Marketing Officer. Our small team is friendly, ambitious and collaborative. You’ll get to learn what legacy and in-memory is all about, as part of a supportive team.

• £32,000 per annum

• 12 month fixed term contract

• Full time (35 hours) hours or Part time (a minimum of 28 hours) considered

• Happy to discuss work pattern at interview

• Start date around 24 June 2024

• Hybrid, linked to our Ewell (Surrey) office. Due to the requirements of the role, you’ll need to work in the office around 2 times per month.

• We are passionate about flexible working, talk to us about your preferences.

Skills and experience you’ll bring

We’d welcome applications from candidates either in or outside of the charity sector. There are many other roles with great transferable skills for example around managing marketing campaigns, fundraising products, or other customer facing roles.

Key skills you’ll need

• Great organisational skills which will help you to manage projects and develop supporter journeys.

• Relationship building skills which will help supporters to feel connected to our cause, and inspired to support Samaritans.

• Interpersonal skills for working well with colleagues, suppliers and volunteers.

• Data analysis skills so that you can assess and report on how activities are performing, and optimise your approaches.

• Knowledge of gifts in wills and in-memory giving (or a willingness to learn).

 Job Description is here

What’s in it for you – our benefits

So, you want to work for us? Good choice. We like it here too. We offer competitive salaries, flexible and hybrid working to suit your needs, family-friendly policies, 28 days annual leave inclusive of wellbeing days and a matched pension contribution up to 5%. You’ll have a structured induction and ongoing projects, secondments & learning opportunities. We also have colleague-led affinity groups made up of people with shared identities.

Your health and wellbeing is our priority. We have a staff community of Mental Health First Aiders, a Health Cash Plan and an Employee Assistance Programme. You’ll have free subscriptions to Headspace (your personal guide to mindfulness, sleep, focus, movement, and more) & Perkbox (an employee benefits platform with online exercise classes). That’s not all. We listen to your ideas and have staff forum and social committee networks.

Hybrid and flexible working

We are a flexible organisation, and we embrace hybrid working – a mix of connecting in person and remotely. We’re aware that the world is changing, and we all want and need different things from our work and home lives. So, if you need to walk the dog, go to the gym, or have commitments outside of work, we’re open to talking through flexible working options that work for you and us.

Being Inclusive

We recognise the enormous benefits and the social justice imperatives of ensuring diversity at every level of our organisation. Samaritans is wholly committed to inclusion and diversity and to building a culture and environment where everyone is appreciated for the unique person they are. To ensure Samaritans is representative of those we support and who support us, we particularly welcome applications from Disabled, BAME and LGBTQ+ candidates, as these people are under-represented at Samaritans.

If this sounds like the opportunity for you, apply. You’ll be asked to upload your CV and a 1 page cover letter, outlining your motivations for applying, transferable skills and why you’re interested in this role at Samaritans. Applications close for applications at 9 am on Monday 13 May.

If you're itching to put your fundraising skills to good use and be part of something truly meaningful, then what are you waiting for? Apply today!
