Liberty is an independent campaigning organisation. At Liberty, we challenge injustice, defend freedom and campaign to make sure everyone in the UK is treated fairly. In 2020, Liberty launched an exciting new project using the tools of investigative journalism to expose and challenge abuses of power and violations of human rights: Liberty Investigates. Our two current key topics are policing and protest rights, while we have previously also specialised in migrant and asylum seeker rights.

We believe rigorously pursued, collaborative investigative journalism can be instrumental in challenging abuses of power, and we believe it’s a time when it’s needed more than ever. The team undertakes investigations designed to hold power accountable, change narratives and spark positive change in human rights.

Our small team has worked with publishing partners including the Times, the Guardian, the Observer, Independent, Channel 4 News, ITV News, and local press. We’ve been shortlisted for the Private Eye Paul Foot Award twice, were finalists two years running for the Orwell Prize for Exposing Britain’s Social Evils, and were recently shortlisted for the European Press Prize.

Best of all, we’ve seen real-world impact from the stories, such as when a judge ordered the Home Secretary to bring back to the UK an asylum seeker she had deported to France – off the back of our story about charter flight Esparto 11.

We are looking for an Investigations Editor with the investigative, strategic and management skills to lead this exciting work into the future.

You will need to understand the power of telling stories and the role that journalism plays in mobilising action in the public interest. You will need a passion for upholding high factual and ethical standards. You will be excited about working in a multi-disciplinary campaigning organization, and you will inspire the team to carry out investigations to spark positive change.

We are looking for a Branch Manager with a passion for animal welfare, who will contribute to our mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing animals in need. Our new Branch Manager will want to actively promote kindness and the prevention of cruelty to animals, and be driven by a desire to give those in our care a second chance in finding their forever home.

Role Responsibilities

People

Be responsible for all branch employees, including recruitment, employee development and performance assessment.

Health and Safety

Digital Media and Marketing

Be responsible for developing the use of digital media to deliver the charity's vision, mission and strategy.

Work with the trustees to develop a marketing strategy, helping our Branch reach more people and generate additional income.

Animal Welfare

In collaboration with the Animal Operations Manager, ensure the Branch delivers on its commitment to care for and ensure the welfare of animals, overseeing compliance with RSPCA standards and policies, relevant legislation and best practice in the provision of animal welfare services. We are looking for people to join our pool of freelancers, delivering our Transforming Spaces programme and helping us to deliver our ambitious project targets to ensure many more children and young people can have safe spaces to sleep, learn and play. We redecorate children's bedrooms, as well as local youth clubs and community centres which children rely on for support. The purpose of the programme is to provide children living in unsuitable accommodation with safe environments where they can sleep, learn, play, and grow.

Renovation projects are designed with support from The Childhood Trust’s pro bono interior design team at Katharine Pooley and completed in one day by a group of volunteers. There is growing demand from both communities who need our support and from volunteers who want to give their time to make a difference. 

Project days can be long - sites are based across London so can mean 8am starts and finishes after 6pm. 

The Royal Osteoporosis Society – Director of Income and Engagement

Location: Dependant on distance, the role will be either fully remote with occasional travel to the Bath office (around once per quarter), or hybrid for those based nearby.

The Royal Osteoporosis Society (ROS), the UK’s largest national charity dedicated to improving bone health and beating osteoporosis, is seeking a bold and dynamic fundraising and communications leader who can drive transformative income growth and galvanise public engagement.

Half of women aged over 50 live with osteoporosis, plus a fifth of men.  The condition causes bones to break (fracture) following everyday occurrences – e.g. sneezes, coughs and falls.  Fractures are the fourth worst cause of disability and premature death, but most people with osteoporosis are undiagnosed.

ROS works to improve diagnosis and access to care for the unacceptably high number of people whose lives risk being destroyed by this highly treatable condition each day. They equip people with practical information and support to take action on their bone health and, working with healthcare professionals and academics, influence and shape policy and practice at every level. The charity’s research arm is investigating new diagnostic approaches, including the world’s first screening programme, as well as novel treatments to beat osteoporosis for good.

This is a pivotal time for ROS as they aim to seize on momentum garnered from half a million people checking their risk, two national media partnerships, a groundbreaking Ministerial pledge to roll-out early diagnosis clinics to every area, and more people than ever engaging with their services. They aim to lead a movement for change around bone health similar to those that have gained widespread attention by menopause and prostate cancer campaigners.

To capitalise on this momentum and as the charity prepares for its 40th anniversary, the time is right for ROS to step up fundraising and public engagement to address one of the most urgent threats to people living well in later life and meet the charity’s vision - No more broken bones, no more broken lives. To achieve this, the ROS Board has committed to investing up to 80% of annual designated spent into developing fundraising every year up to 2030.

To deliver on this investment, the ROS team is seeking a creative and inspiring fundraising and communications leader who can build strong partnerships, harness digital innovation and create and deepen supporter journeys to convert awareness into long-term support.

As well as driving the delivery of a transformational audience-centric growth strategy, the role-holder will also be responsible for building a powerful organisational brand to reflect ROS’s vision and impact, as well as compelling communications and media plans to drive momentum. Pro Bono Community is seeking a Training and Volunteer Coordinator to help us achieve greater access to justice.

Pro Bono Community is a registered charity that has developed specialised training programmes for students, trainees and lawyers covering the practical skills involved in delivering free legal advice and areas of social welfare law. In conjunction with the training, the charity arranges and manages volunteering placements at Law Centres and other advice agencies. The charity’s activities include a number of grant-funded projects which the coordinator will be heavily involved in.

About the role

Pro Bono Community is looking for a Training and Volunteer Coordinator to help us run programmes aimed at improving the amount and quality of access to justice by training law students and others and then placing them to work as volunteers at advice agencies.

The Training and Volunteer Coordinator will report to and work alongside the Director to undertake work supporting the charity’s activities with a focus on recruiting and training students and lawyers and then coordinating volunteering placements for them at Law Centres and advice agencies. The role also includes administrative work relating to a pioneering digital advice clinic the charity runs in conjunction with a Citizens Advice agency in London.

This is a full-time role with a salary of £30-33,000 depending on experience and the charity is seeking to appoint someone with knowledge of training and the legal/advice sectors and/or experience in a similar role. Occasional weekend work may be required. The role will involve working from home with some travel involved to London and elsewhere in support of the charity’s activities. Thanks to funding from the DCMS Uniformed Youth Fund, Girlguiding is launching the Reach project to increase our impact in underrepresented communities and lower income areas. We want to create 1,400 spaces for girls to join, and test new ways for girls to engage with our offer. Between now and March 2026 we will run atleast six pilots to co-create offers with girls less likely to participate in our core offerings.  

This is part of a new innovation adventure at Girlguiding. We’re using creative approaches to design, test and scale new delivery models to reach a new and diverse audience of girls.

Job Title: Housing Support Worker

Location: Luton, floating support service based within the office and around different locations within the community

Salary: £24,500

Shift Pattern: 12 month fixed term contract, 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00. You may be required to work outside these hours as necessary to service requirements.

About the role

This is an exciting new role within a brand new contract to support the referral process from the Housing Solutions teams! The service focuses on providing floating and wraparound support to single applicants who are at risk of homelessness and are able to live independently, by providing a housing support plan towards resolving housing needs and support them into long-term, stable housing.

In this role, you will conduct proactive outreach with our participants to develop personalised support plans for housing for appropriate long-term housing options, including accessing private rental listings and understanding application processes for tenancy. You will help our participants navigate the resources available to them including benefits and support services, advocating for their needs whilst empowering them to take ownership of their housing journey. You will work closely with the Landlord Liaison Officer who bridges the gap between our participants and private landlords. You will work closely with them to achieve prevention and relief outcomes by assisting the participant to remain in their provided accommodation. 

You will provide follow up support to ensure tenancy sustainment and successful transitions into permanent housing, keeping casefiles up to date with activities and documents, and escalating any high risks or high needs to the management team.

The Fundraising Data Specialist is an exciting role managing the Trust’s supporter database and ancillary systems. Whilst undertaking data analysis the role helps provide insights to inform trust wide decision-making, particularly for fundraising, engagement and supporter development.

The Key Responsibilities and Tasks for the Fundraising Data Specialist are:

Responsibility 1: Database Management

• Act as Database superuser (Raiser’s Edge), demonstrating an expert level of knowledge and providing technical support, training and advice to all areas of the organisation.
• Ensure a high standard of data input and adherence to processes and procedures, including compliance with GDPR legislation, Direct Debit rules and HMRC guidance.
• Oversee the effectiveness of the CRM
• Identify and suggest Database improvements that will support the organisation in maximising its potential.
• Support the addition of new data onto the CRM from other departments – share principles on best practice to ensure all data remains clean.
• Manage the ongoing roll out of CRM automated journeys, including e-communications and cost saving initiatives.
• Work with consultants and external organisations to continue active development of the CRM including the project management of current and future systems integrations, and the cost analysis against business needs.

Responsibility 2: Analysis and Reporting

• Extract and manipulate data to undertake insightful analysis to segment and identify key trends and behaviours to enable ongoing organisational development, including membership, appeals and engagement. Prepare clear written reports as needed.
• Create dashboards and reports to help team better understand and make decisions relating to their work. E.g. Using Power BI to process data and create dashboards.

Responsibility 3: Financial Processing

• Co-ordinate the processing of accurate monthly Gift Aid and Direct Debit claims according to an agreed timetable. Ensure all Direct Debit and HMRC rules are complied with.
• Liaise with Finance to assist with the reconciliation of financial data and troubleshoot any issues arising.
• Support the Fundraising team with Gift Aid best practice, including managing the integrity of current Gift Aid records and auditing past records

The Marine Society & Sea Cadets (MSSC) is a vibrant and growing charity delivering life changing nautical adventure for young people through the Sea Cadets to give them the best possible head start in life. We also provide personal and professional development opportunities for seafarers with the Marine Society. Working with our staff, cadets, and volunteers, we have built a vision and five-year strategy to take us forward and further improve the astounding contribution already made through our work to the lives of thousands of young people and seafarers, while fully supporting our volunteers who are vital to our success.

We are currently looking for an OTW Project Assistant who will support the delivery of the On The Water project at one of our boating stations in Birmingham. The project provides young people from outside Sea Cadets, age 9-14, the opportunity to get on the water, learn new skills and build confidence through boating activity. This is a very varied and rewarding role that requires someone who is self-motivated, inspiring, organized, creative, tenacious, positive, IT competent and with a real interest in people with a attention to detail and real enthusiasm for the project.

Project delivery takes place between 29 July 2024 and 30 August 2025 when the young people will be attending boating sessions. During this busy time the Project Assistant will be based at the boat station each day to complete registration, manage group change overs, track project targets, encourage survey completion and fill booking gaps. Prior to delivery the role will be focused on supporting the booking process and engaging in community outreach. Once delivery is complete, the Project Assistant role will then predominantly be supporting the evaluation and data collection as well as supporting participants to join their local Sea Cadet unit.

Key Responsibilities

• The welcoming and registration of participants for the On The Water project
• Collecting and uploading daily statistics and figures that show how the project is progressing
• Making new and repeat bookings
• Talking to participants and their parents/carers about the opportunities within Sea Cadets
• Managing a waiting list and reducing drop-outs
• Responsible for the safety and wellbeing of participants alongside the Boat Station staff
• Ensure that participants complete surveys to share their experience of the project and encourage adults to feedback on their young people’s experience
• Attend any meetings as required by the project
• Assist with the evaluation of the On The Water project
