Founded by bestselling science writer Simon Simon MBE, Parallel is a small but ambitious charitable initiative. We support bright and keen students to develop their mathematical curiosity and problem solving skills beyond the curriculum. This includes puzzle sheets, large interactive webinars, and a tutoring programme (Parallel Academy) which provides small-group tutorials to over 600 state school secondary school students. Our tutorial programme is completely free for the first year, and heavily subsidised thereafter, but cost will never be a barrier to participation.

This role:

So far, the Parallel platform has been developed and maintained by a single volunteer developer. As we look to expand the project to reach many thousands more students each year, we are now looking for additional support to help maintain the platform, attend to daily issues and support with new feature development.

The Parallel platform is built with the following technologies:

• Frontend: React, Typescript

• Backend: Node.js, GraphQL (AWS Appsync)

• Infrastructure: AWS (Lambda, AppSync, Dynamodb), Firebase

Experience with all of these technologies is desired but not critical. You will be joining a very small team, however, so the ability to work, troubleshoot, & learn independently is crucial.

We expect that this role will require 20 hours per month, with some variation from one week to the next. Our success to date has relied upon the rapid responsiveness of our lead developer and, working under his supervision, we require the same from this role.

The role

As the breadth and volume of our fundraising activity has grown over the last couple of years, an opportunity has arisen for a detail orientated and enthusiastic individual to join our database team. The team

Our dynamic fundraising department are preparing for an ambitious multimillion-pound campaign in support of a ground-breaking cancer centre on the site of the Royal Free Hospital. Responsible for attracting and retaining donors, and delivering an outstanding supporter experience, the fundraising department comprises two teams which work closely together to achieve our shared objectives:

- Our Public Fundraising team harnesses the support and energy of individuals and groups, helping them to give back in the way that works for them. This includes committed giving, in memory support, gifts in wills, and fundraising events and challenges. Our Philanthropy and Campaign teams builds relationships with individual philanthropists, trusts, foundations, and corporate organisations which give, or have potential to give, £10,000 to the charity each year. They lead major appeal activity for the charity, currently focused on our exciting cancer campaign which is due to launch in 2025.

- Our database team sit within Fundraising, with their work underpinning and supporting the entire department.

akt is the UK’s national LGBTQ Youth Homelessness charity. We provide safe homes, mentoring, and support to ensure that no young person needs to choose between a safe home and being who they are. 24% of young people facing homelessness in the UK identify as LGBT (National Scoping of LGBT Youth Homelessness, akt, 2015) and 78% of LGBTQ+ young people cited an absence of family support (The LGBTQ+ Youth Homelessness Report, akt, 2021). The charity was founded in 1989 and operates service centres in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol and works online through a Digital Service to offer support to young people outside of our four office regions. akt works with over 800 vulnerable young people a year providing both face to face and online assistance.

Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Housing Support Worker to join our new Supported Housing Scheme in Lambeth, an LGBTQ+ supported housing service with six units for young people aged 18-21 years. The service is due to open in late May 2025 and is part of a three-year funded joint project with Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing Association and Lambeth Council. The role is part of the Services team and is supervised by the Supported Housing Manager. Other members of the team include another part time Housing Support Worker and a part-time Youth Engagement Coordinator. 

Please note this is a part time vacancy working 17.5 hours per week. The pro rata salary for hours worked is £15,257.50 (£30,515 full time equivalent). Hours will be worked on a Week A / Week B rota basis, Monday to Sunday between 10am and 8pm. 

Job Summary 

In this role you will be responsible for supporting residents to reach their goals and aspirations and move on to independent living. This will involve:

• Supporting young people – building positive and affirming relationships, co-producing holistic strengths-based support plans, coaching and supporting young people with independent living skills and providing them with advice, guidance and support.
• Safeguarding and risk management – working in partnership with Social Services to support young people to keep themselves safe, attending strategy meetings and implementing associated action plans, creating and upkeeping evidence-based risk management plans.
• Service delivery and development – record keeping contributing to KPI tracking, contributing to the development of best practice around supporting LGBTQ+ young people across Lambeth, ensuring young people’s experiences and voices are centred with an emphasis on co-production.
• Partnership working – championing and prioritising residents’ intersectional needs, partnership work with young people and key partner agencies to support young people to achieve their goals.
• Case recording and information management – accurate and timely updating of records, maintaining high standards of safeguarding, protecting personal and confidential information.
• Property and Housing management – creating a safe, welcoming and psychologically informed home environment for young people, where their safety and wellbeing is at the centre of everything you do, and their LGBTQ+ identities are celebrated.

Our client is committed to transforming lives of children and young people by creating opportunities to learn, grow, and develop through Education. The Charity is an independent funder and our income is generated from our endowment which consists of both significant property holdings and financial investments, therefore we do not fund raise, our client has distributed over £298 million in grants to a range of organisations that seek to promote the life chances of children and young people through Education, with around £15 million in grants distributed each year. The Charity gives grants to benefit children and young up to the age of 25 (or up to 30 for younger people with special educational needs and/or disabilities) who live within nine Boroughs in West, Central and North London.

We are delighted to be working with the Charity to recruit a permanent Financial Controller to join its established team based in conveniently located offices in Central London. 

The role:

Reporting directly to the COO, the Financial Controller will ensure the provision of consistent, robust financial advice to the Charity as a whole.  This person will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of finance and financial operations, ensuring these are compliant with statutory requirements and appropriate and effective financial controls are in place. They will also maintain a financial planning framework that will facilitate the delivery of the Charity’s financial strategy. This will involve managing one direct report, overseeing all financial reporting and tax compliance, preparing the Charity’s management accounts and the end of year accounts for approval and sign off by the Trustees. In addition, the role will be responsible for managing an annual financial audit process preparing the annual budgets in advance for SLT sign off and providing sound financial advice across all of these areas.

This person will also manage all external relationships with banks, financial institutions, property Investors and auditors wherever Finance is the main issue being dealt with. This person will also oversee all Grants related financial transactions in close collaboration with the Grants department.

The person:

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant and will be able to provide excellent financial management and reporting for the Charity. They will be confident working with different internal stakeholders and external professional advisors and will be capable of considering their different requirements and priorities in a knowledgeable way. This person will have excellent attention to detail and will be highly organised and a strong communicator across a wide range of audiences. Educated to Degree level or the equivalent (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or CIPFA), this person will have excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication and will be up to date on all MS Office packages and financial software including SAGE being essential.

Candidates with prior experience of working with endowed Trusts, Foundations or Charities or who have worked in Charities that have income derived from a permanent endowment (either partially or totally), will be of particular interest, so please draw attention to this when applying.

This person will have demonstrated substantial financial management experience at a senior level in the Charity or Not-for-Profit sectors, with extensive knowledge of UK Charity Accounting Standards (SORP, Charity Commission compliance and VAT). Also experienced in strategic financial planning, preparing complex financial statements, budgeting and cashflow forecasting, and have good knowledge of financial planning in a Funder or Grant-Maker setting. As our income is generated from our endowment which consists of both significant property holdings and financial investments a substantial experience of managing income and cashflow from property and investments is essential.

A fantastic opportunity to join an international charity, and passionate, energetic team, as their new Marketing Officer, where you will increase digital donor acquisition through e-campaigns and e-marketing activities; working across a breadth of social media, digital marketing, digital fundraising campaigns and creative communications and content. In this newly created position, the Marketing Officer will raise awareness of the charity’s work and promote engagement, partnerships and donations.

I’m looking to hear from a confident social media marketer, with experience working across Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. In addition, you will have broader marketing and writing skills, to deliver e-newsletters, blogs, magazines, creative assets and content for the website. A key responsibility of the role will be to increase digital donations, therefore you will have developed your marketing experience in either a commercial setting or fundraising context.

We are seeking an energetic and passionate Schools and Holiday Club Coordinator to inspire young people and deliver outstanding programmes within a leading youth charity that helps shape the lives of young people.

Position: Schools and Holiday Club Coordinator

Salary: £29,500 – £31,500 per annum (pro rata)

Location: Barnet, HA8 0DT

Hours: 40 hours per week, including evenings and weekends – Flexibility required

About the Role
As Schools and Holiday Club Coordinator you will lead two of the charity’s most important and growing initiatives: the local schools programme and Holiday Club provision. You will drive the engagement of young people by developing strong partnerships with local schools and delivering vibrant holiday activities.

Key responsibilities include:

• Building and maintaining strong relationships with schools, teachers, and education bodies.
• Designing and delivering engaging educational programmes aligned with school priorities.
• Planning, promoting, and delivering high-quality Holiday Club activities during school holidays.
• Managing programme budgets and ensuring cost-effective delivery.
• Applying for and managing Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) grants and other relevant funding.
• Capturing and evaluating outcomes, feedback, and data to inform improvements.
• Line managing, motivating, and supporting a team of staff and volunteers.
• Ensuring activities meet the needs of all young people, including those with SEND.

About you:

You will be a passionate and committed youth work professional who brings creativity, energy, and focus to everything you do. You will have:

• Experience delivering face-to-face youth or schools-based activities for young people aged 8+.
• A proven ability to build strong relationships with schools and external partners.
• Skills in managing and motivating staff and volunteers to deliver excellent programmes.
• A strong understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, and promoting equality and diversity.
• Excellent communication, planning, and organisational skills.
• A flexible, positive attitude with the ability to work evenings, weekends, and during school holidays.
• A commitment to empowering young people and raising their aspirations.

Our client is an independent charity and purpose-built youth centre for Barnet’s young people aged 8 to 19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs.
