Energise Sussex Coast is a community benefit society. Our mission is to work together to end fuel poverty and protect the environment through community led local green power & energy saving schemes.

We are looking for an energetic and creative person to organise and deliver a calendar of engaging and inspiring energy and climate themed events and outreach activities across East Sussex. The events will cover the following themes: saving and sharing energy, insulation, solar and batteries, renewable heat, funding energy efficiency measures, creating healthy and mould-free homes etc.

About you

You are committed to getting the information out there about the transition to zero carbon in a way that is engaging and brings communities together.

You have experience of organising events or other engagement activities.  You bring a proactive attitude to the role. You are confident and self driven but enjoy working in cooperation to achieve common goals and to increase your impact. You are a creative thinker with some great ideas about how to engage communities in the transition to a fossil free future and ensure that no one is left behind.

You are a great advocate and because you believe in community energy are happy to promote our services to other organisations and groups with the aim of increasing the number of residents we can support with energy advice and who are able to engage in the transition to a more sustainable future.

You have a high standard of written and verbal communication skills. You are organised with an attention to detail and respect for the importance of collecting data to enable monitoring and evaluation of the project.  You want to improve the events by collecting and listening to feedback and implementing improvements. You value the input of our service users, volunteers and staff team into the design of the events programme.

Responsibilities

- Work in collaboration with the ESC team and stakeholders to design a programme of inspiring energy and climate themed events in Hastings, Rother, Eastbourne, and Wealden, reaching a total of 1000 residents across the year.

- Create engagement opportunities for your team at the events and activities of other organisations and local groups by networking and working with the Communications and Marketing person to promote our services.

- Find interesting speakers and organisations to participate in our events.

- Create public events for our No One Left Behind project, finding new, exciting ways to engage the public in conversation about energy and climate topics.

- Manage the administration and logistics of the events, including room bookings, ticket booking processes, etc.

- Look for opportunities to invite our funder along to events and participate in the activities.

- Manage relationships with staff team and volunteer Energy Champions on local events.

- Create event plans and risk assessments for each event.

- Work with the Marketing and Communications Officer and local volunteers to plan PR and promotion of events to agreed timelines.

- Create and work to agreed budgets.

- Ensure you are collecting the data needed to monitor and evaluate the project.

- Create inclusivity in the event registration and attendance experience to support people with a variety of needs.

- Ensure events feed into the wider work and services of Energise Sussex Coast.

- Provide event reports to manager detailing the number of attendees, write-up of the event, and feedback.

- Provide general assistance with ESC events and projects as required.

- Adhere to Energise Sussex Coast’s policies around safeguarding, data protection, etc.

- Attend monthly in-person team meetings in Hastings.

Key Details

• Hours: 30 hours a week, flexible working. Will include some evening and weekend work.
• Job location: Home based (or optional hot desk in Hastings) with regular events in Hastings, Rother, Eastbourne and Wealden. Please note, travel costs to the events will only be paid from a local East Sussex postcode, we would not be able to cover the cost of travelling to events from London or further afield.

1. Professional experience or a personal commitment to the pressing importance of the transition to a sustainable, fossil fuel free future

2. Experience of organising events or community engagement.

3. Experience or an understanding of the importance of quality data collection, monitoring and evaluation, for example collecting and analysing event feedback

Science and tech represent policy areas where citizen engagement on both principles and practice is vital and where public engagement can also open the door to broader deliberative democratic interventions and feedback loops. Technological advancement, including AI, presents risks and opportunities and will be an ongoing priority for government with five critical technologies likely to be central to UK policy for at least the next Government.

Involve has a significant pedigree and is well networked in the area of public engagement in science. Over the last 20 years we have been thought leaders in this space, in particular running the government’s science and tech engagement programme, Sciencewise. We have developed a reputation for best practice public dialogue, deliberation and capacity building. 

Given the opportunity to grow this area, our reputation, and the important democratic need, we don’t want to stand still. 

As Engagement Lead you will play a central role in leading Involve’s work, and building out our strategy, on public engagement in the science, technology and data field. The job will involve leading on our Sciencewise programme of public dialogue as well as supporting, growing and communicating our science and tech public engagement in general. You will be a proven project leader and strategic thinker looking to make your next move and develop your leadership and profile in this interesting and important area of public engagement in decision-making. 

This is a newly created post in a growing, ambitious charity supporting Whittington Health NHS Trust.

The post holder will focus on building and stewarding relationships with our nearest and dearest in our north London community, including local businesses, schools, community groups, fundraising volunteers and event organisers and participants.

As an Assistant Community Shop Manager (ACSM) for St Giles Hospice you will support in leading a team of volunteers. You’ll be empowered to make decisions locally whilst working within a supportive framework. You’ll work within and for your local community ensuring that engagement and support is understood and promoted.

You’ll have good customer service skills and want to be part of a successful team. Ideally, you’ll have previous retail experience with the ability to manage and lead the store in the absence of the Community Shop Manager (CSM).

Reporting into the CSM and working closely with the Retail Regional Manager you will aid in supporting your store to run efficiently and deliver a positive financial contribution to the Hospice. About this job

Please note this is a part-time role 3 days/or 21 hours per week (Fridays must be worked but the other 2 days per week are flexible). The role is initially for an 18 months fixed term contract.

As a key member of our Services and Support team, you’ll be working with MS Society volunteer groups that provide transport services to their members and/or own property. You’ll also be supporting members of the Customer Services team to help them fulfill their health and safety responsibilities within each of the MS Society’s offices. This role includes travel across the UK to provide support and/ or training as required.

You’ll be working with our external auditors to manage the audit process, monitor and record compliance with the ‘MS Society Health and Safety risk management framework’ on property and transport and ensure materials in the framework are consistently and effectively used.

We’re looking for the successful candidate to have:

• A NEBOSH National General Certificate
• Trained Display Screen Assessment Assessor
• Be a Member of Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
• Experience of working with in house Health and Safety systems that cover risk areas associated with a volunteer group network.
• Experience of working with volunteers.
• An in-depth up-to-date knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and practices, particularly as these relate to the voluntary sector.
• Experience of transport for people of all abilities run by the voluntary sector with a working knowledge of the related legislation.
• A working knowledge of the management of properties run by the voluntary sector.
• A working knowledge of DSE requirements and how to assess and apply them in a practical way.
• Knowledge of risk assessment, inspection and auditing procedures.

The role

The role is a 12 month fixed term contract and sits in our people team, supporting the charity by providing a professional, comprehensive and proactive recruitment service. To work closely with the HR advisors, the HR coordinator and as necessary, the HR and organisational development manager, to support recruitment and selection-based projects.

As the first point of contact for all recruitment related queries from recruiting managers and candidates, you’ll be responsible for uploading vacancies and supporting information onto our online advertising platforms and manage recruitment activity as a key user of our recruitment applicant tracking system (ATS). You’ll also ensure all our recruitment and selection literature, including adverts and job descriptions are correctly branded and formatted.

You’ll actively support and provide guidance to recruiting managers at the beginning and during all the stages of the recruitment process, along with offering a face to face service to build key stakeholder relationships across the charity. You’ll also be required, when necessary to actively represent the people team at interviews.

You’ll also be responsible for managing the recruitment inbox and supporting recruiting managers and the HR advisors from coordinating interviews to creating a range of quarterly recruitment reports.

About you

You’ll have experience of working in a recruitment administrative role within an HR or recruitment function. And be proficient in using administrative systems and databases specific to recruitment. You’ll have the ability to work as part of a hybrid team and possess excellent written and verbal communications skills allowing you to work together at all times when in the office or when working from home. You’ll understand the importance of working accurately and with attention to detail within a confidential framework and have the ability to use your initiative to plan and organise your own workload.

Primary location of role and hybrid working

This role is primarily based in our London office, however in line with our hybrid working practice, you will be required to work 2 days in the office which will be Tuesday and Wednesday; the remaining days will be from home.
