Fowler’s Syndrome UK (Registered Charity number 1196903) is a unique patient and clinician led charity that works to raise awareness, promote education and encourage research into the debilitating bladder condition Fowler’s Syndrome. The condition solely affects women and Fowler’s Syndrome UK (FSUK) is the only charity in the world to directly support women with this condition.

Fowler’s syndrome is a life changing and currently almost untreatable condition, affecting up to 20,000 women in the UK. It  causes full or partial urinary retention and solely affects women*, meaning they have problems passing urine due to a difficulty in relaxing the urinary sphincter. The peak age of onset is 26. It was first described by Professor Clare Fowler, Emeritus professor of Uro-Neurology at UCLh, and FSUK’s patron, in 1985.

We estimate that there are in excess of 20,000 women in the UK suffering from, but not necessarily diagnosed with, the condition, because of the lack of knowledge about Fowler’s Syndrome both from a patient and clinician perspective.

85% of women with Fowler’s Syndrome say the condition has had a severe or devastating impact on their life.

75% of those with FS have been told their urinary symptoms are due to anxiety or ‘all in their head’

There is low awareness of the condition among the medical community outside of specialist hospitals. Only an estimated 30% of GPs are aware of Fowler’s Syndrome. Once diagnosed, there are few resources available for patients and limited treatment options. Many women feel alone and unsupported.

Our mission is to provide resources, promote education and facilitate research into Fowler’s syndrome; so women with the condition have stigma free access to a timely diagnosis, suitable and effective treatment options, care and psychological support.

The Role: Administrator

The administrator’s role is to support the CEO in the daily management of the charity. This will include administration, delivering resources, comms including social media and website, outreach and events, fundraising and research. It will also include supporting the CEO and Patient Liaison with seminars and conferences, and support groups.

Administration: Support the CEO and the Finance and Governance lead with daily activities, including but not limited to grant applications, basic finance administration, project management, project delivery, database management, office management. Objective: Improve efficiency and quality of the charity’s management

Resources: Supporting the CEO and working to deliver first class resources.  Working with the CEO and Patient Liaison to efficiently and effectively run the roll out of our resources, following the CEO’s guidelines and the charity’s mission and vision. This will include Healthcare professional (HCP) leaflets, Patient leaflets, a catheter support series, mental health support series, Pain management support from pharmacists and Physiotherapist led sessions. This will also include management of zoom and in person groups,  dissemination of information on studies and surveys.

Comms:  Manage the patient database including GDPR, manage newsletters, PR, website. Manage FSUK’s social media, with direction from the CEO. Daily posts plus responding to queries and signposting. Social media partnerships. Monthly email to database. Basic updates to website

Outreach and events: Drive awareness of FSUK in the local community and beyond Work with CEO to manage merchandising, registration, setup, logistics of events. Find, plan and represent FSUK at events. Manage yearly even calendar. Working with the CEO and administrator to plan, organise and run events, including transformative one-day seminar for healthcare professionals and a two-day seminar for FSUK users and clinicians.

Fundraising: Help the CEO and Patient liaison with fundraising, both on an individual and trust basis.

Community led research: Assist the CEO in creating patient led community research.

Research: Assist the CEO and work with the Patient Liaison in creating and conducting research. Including Patient perspectives input into consensus guidelines for non-surgical management, Dr. Ingrid Hoeritzauer, Patient experiences with sacral neuromodulation, Dr. Caroline Selai, Awareness of FS among UK urology community, Prof Jalesh Panicker via University Cambridge, Physiotherapy treatment experiences with FS and CIUR, Dr. Ingrid Hoeritzauer. Our research will help enable women to receive the support they need and fulfil their potential, offering quicker diagnosis and better treatments and enabling our community to thrive.

There may be occasions where staff are required to work out of hours or support at events, including wish related activities such as our annual wish family Christmas party or wish community events, cheering runners at the London marathon or working at our annual fundraising gala. Join us in our aim to reduce carbon emissions and fuel poverty across Merseyside and Cheshire. We support around 10,000 households each year in our vision that sustainable energy should be accessible and affordable to everyone.

We are a small charity, employing an average of 30 staff (21 full-time equivalent), with a turnover of c£600,000 per year through a mix of grants and contracted services, and we deliver a range of advice and support projects, some of which include holding grant funds for payment to residents or directly to contractors or utilities on their behalf.

The primary role of the Finance Manager is to oversee and manage the finances of Energy Projects Plus including providing high quality management information and support to the Chief Executive and Trustees to ensure the strong financial performance of the charity.

You will also be responsible for the accurate production of monthly salary calculations, including HMRC payments, quarterly VAT calculations and returns to HMRC, production of annual accounts, and ensuring a fully compliant annual audit.

You will work with and be Line Manager to a part-time finance assistant, who is responsible for day-to-day entries into the charity’s QuickBooks finance system and arranging day-to-day payments to staff and external organisations.

You will be the main point of contact on behalf of the charity for all financial matters, including influencing future strategy and direction, liaising with the Chief Executive.

Your skills will include:

·A relevant accounting qualification e.g. CIMA with minimum 3 years post qualification experience.

·A proven track record in charity management and a good understanding of the environment in which charities operate.

·Strong computer skills, including advanced user standard for mainstream accountancy software and Microsoft suite software

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1. Ensuring the effective running of the day-to-day financial operations in line with the charity’s financial policies and procedures and be the main point of contact for all enquiries regarding finance matters.

2. Income: ensuring timely, accurate recording and classification of all income on the charity’s QuickBooks system (including designated restricted funds); issuing sales invoices, including those for vatable sales; recording remittances, electronic banking transactions; carrying out the credit control function reporting potential bad debts to the Chief Executive.

3. Expenditure: ensuring appropriate authorisation is obtained for all expenditure; counterchecking all expenses claims for compliance with charity policy; ensuring accurate recording of expenditure on QuickBooks including correct cost code allocation; ensuring appropriate records of invoices and claims are filed appropriately.

4. Payroll: Liaising with the payroll service provider on a monthly basis to prepare input to salary calculations (new starters, leavers, adjustments etc) and countercheck payroll details from provider, arrange approval of figures, ensure pension and HMRC payments are made in compliance with requirements.

5. VAT return: calculating (including manual adjustments for irrecoverable VAT) and submitting quarterly VAT records, ensuring payment is made in compliance with requirements.

6. Management accounts: preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts, highlighting variances to budgets, liaising with Chief Executive in presenting to Trustees, and providing other financial information requested to inform strong financial management.

7. Annual accounts: preparing year-end accounts, processing year-end adjustments on QuickBooks, producing all supporting documentation required for annual external audit. Ensuring audited accounts are submitted to Charity Commission and Companies House before required deadlines.

8. Working with the Chief Executive to prepare the Trustees’ Annual Report in good time for approval by Trustees prior to inclusion in Annual Report and Financial Statement.

9. Maintaining and updating periodically the charity’s financial procedures policy.

You will be confident in public speaking and have excellent communication skills, being able to convey a message with impact to engender trust, and be comfortable communicating with senior stakeholders, staff, volunteers and funders.

You will have experience working with external funders, understanding the importance of delivering a project as agreed, as well as  being comfortable with completing the monitoring and reporting aspects.

You will live in, or have close connections to, the local area where we work.

During Joe’s life he brought a cheeky spirit and constant laughter to all those that met him. His selflessness and commitment to helping others touched so many, and in loving memory and as a legacy to Joe, his friends and family set up Joe's Buddy Line in January 2021.

Strategic Planning

Role Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead Learning on Screen’s digital development team. An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a new Operations Manager / Deputy Chief Executive for Stepping Stones North Wales as we celebrate our 40th Anniversary.

Stepping Stones is a charity based in North Wales that offers free individual counselling, support, psychoeducational courses and resources as well as group work to adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. We also support family members, carers and friends.

We are looking for a person who is passionate about the charity sector and who, working with our CEO and with a dynamic team of Trustees, can ensure we operate effectively and can support the delivery of our strategy. The successful candidate will be comfortable with looking at ways to strengthen our processes and systems, so we have even more impact.

Stepping Stones North Wales demonstrates respect for, and embraces the use of, the Welsh Language through all our activities and services. We recognise the need to be appropriately responsive to the linguistic needs of Welsh speakers and we are fully committed to meeting the requirements of the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 (revised 2021). The ability to communicate effectively in both Welsh and English is desirable for this role although we will welcome applicants who demonstrate a commitment to learning Welsh (which we’ll fully support you in doing) and championing its use at every opportunity.

The position can either be full time (35 hours per week), with a salary of £38,296, or pro-rata 28 hours for the right candidate.

Our preference is for the successful candidate to spend three days each week working from our Wrexham office, with the balance being a home-working option. However, we can consider further flexibility and this can be discussed during the application process.

Job description:

• Responsibility for working with the CEO to develop, implement and monitor the Strategic Plan, the yearly Business Plan and associated processes/documents (policies, guidance, risk register and budgets).
• Responsibility for working with the CEO to increase our outreach through strategic communications and through stakeholder mapping/engagement, including with elected officials across North Wales.
• Responsibility for maintaining good working relationships with commissioners and other funding bodies and for supporting the CEO and trustees in promoting Stepping Stones with current and potential future funders within the statutory third and corporate sectors.
• Responsibility for working closely with colleagues and trustees to network and to maintain an appropriate level of awareness of Stepping Stones’ activities amongst the caring professions, across the charitable sector and in communities across North Wales.
• Accountability for supporting the ongoing recruitment of, and line management of, a number of nominated operational staff within the charity.
• Responsibility for ensuring the financial probity of the charity. Working with the CEO and Finance & Business Support Manager.
• Responsibility for maintaining good working relationships with commissioners and other funding bodies and to promote Stepping Stones with current and potential future funders within the statutory, third and corporate sectors.
• Responsibility for ensuring that all appropriate training and processes are in place with regards to key government standards around Safeguarding, Health and Safety and GDPR in partnership with the Clinical Lead.
• Responsibility for working with the CEO, key staff and trustees to implement an improved and modernised service for our clients, partners and trustees through innovation.
• Responsibility for working with the CEO to draft the Annual Report, and all other statutory reports, adhering to strict deadlines.
• Responsibility for ensuring that the charity has an efficient secretarial/clerical service managed by the Office Support Team.
• Responsibility for drafting relevant communications for clients or dealing with queries or complaints along with the Clinical Lead as appropriate.
• Deputising for the CEO during periods of leave or as required/agreed with the CEO.

As the senior finance lead, you will play an active role working with the CEO and senior managers preparing budgets, managing the monthly accounts and monitoring the financial position to support strategic decision making. You will develop and improve existing financial systems to ensure that regular accurate management information is available.

In addition, you will be responsible for all HR Operations, including sending out contracts, and ensuring that the policies and procedures remain up to date.

The role is varied and is an integral part of the wider senior manager team. In addition to professional skills and experience, enthusiasm and curiosity are key to the role.

The role is entirely remote and there is flexibility in the number of hours (full time or 0.8) and in the working pattern.

Oswestry Community Action, otherwise known as Qube, is a registered charity based in Oswestry, Shropshire.

Qube’s aim is to improve the quality of life for people in Oswestry, Shropshire and the Welsh borders, through the provision of Community Transport Services, a Volunteer Centre, Arts and Culture, Shop mobility and Care services.

The role:

The Marketing & Communications Officer will be responsible for the day to day marketing functions, with the aim of increasing the profile and understanding of the organisation within the town of Oswestry and wider communities of Shropshire and the Welsh borders, along with supporting the strategic development of this valued organisation.

Main Duties:

1. To be responsible for the implementation and ongoing development of the organisation’s Marketing plan.

2. Working alongside the Qube staff team develop and implement marketing plans with each department to ensure a consistent and professional approach to the marketing of the organisation.

3. Management of the organisation’s website, including ongoing development of the site, regular content updates and reporting of analytics to the officer’s line manager.

4. To be responsible for regular and relevant social media content on a wide variety of platforms, along with the monitoring of all sites and responding to queries and questions that are raised through the sites.

5. To develop and manage brand guidelines on behalf of the organisation and to ensure that all staff, trustees and volunteers adhere to the guidelines when representing the organisation.

6. To be responsible for the design, production and circulation of all printed materials on behalf of Qube.

7. Network and develop relationships with media outlets, providing press releases to them on a regular basis on the work of Qube.

8. To develop new ways of communicating the messages of Qube to potential customers, stakeholders, as well as to the general public.

9. Any other work as agreed with the Chief Officer or line manager.

Salary: Up to to £14,000 per annum for 22.5 hours per week.

Location: Oswestry, Shropshire.  Hybrid working available.

Hours: Part-time 22.5 hours per week (ideally 3 days a week). 

This is a fixed term position to cover maternity leave until late April 2025.
