At Ambitious about Autism, we're currently looking for a Finance Business Partner to join our team.

You'll be responsible for the Business Partnering of some strategically important areas across the Group, supporting them to deliver their financial targets by developing trusted relationships and working alongside ELT members and budget holders to produce their finance model, annual budget and termly forecasts.

You'll influence and negotiate with senior colleagues and provide technical and strategic insight to ensure AaA reaches its financial targets. You'll lead on the monthly management accounts and reporting process, providing financial advice and support to projects within key departments and ensure that budgetary implications of projects are understood and dealt with appropriately.

The role would suit either a qualified accountant (can be recently qualified) who trained at a top 15 private accountancy firm/equivalent public body (e.g. NAO) or an experienced finance business partner.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has an accountancy qualification (ICAEW/ACCA/CIMA/CIPF);
• Can rapidly build understanding in a complex new environment and who can work independently, exercising judgement while not under close supervision;
• Has knowledge and experience of strategic finance and business planning;
• Has either knowledge of the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) (FRS 102) 2019, or knowledge of IFRS or FRS102 and the ability to quickly learn the differences under the SORP (with support from colleagues); and
• Has proven experience of working closely with stakeholders at varying level of seniority.

UPSU is a not-for-profit, value led organisation which exists to represent the interests of the students studying with the University of Plymouth and support their wider student experience through extracurricular activity.

Key responsibilities will be to develop and deliver outstanding Finance Services in line with UPSU’s strategy and to be accountable for the strategic management of the Union’s financial resources and services and successfully manage the day-to-day operations within the Finance Team.

Areas of responsibility:

• Provide strategic and financial guidance to ensure that the Students’ Union’s financial commitments are met.
• Ensure UPSU has strong financial management.
• Responsibility for strategic risk management.
• Company secretary for the University of Plymouth Students’ Union trading subsidiary.
• Develop, implement, and monitor annual business operating plan for the Finance Team and services provided.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial Management

• Ensure compliance with all statutory and legal requirements.
• Oversee the year end statutory accounts preparation and audit.
• Lead the preparation of the annual budget and forecasts and present finance papers to the Board of Trustees and relevant committees.
• Ensure timely and accurate financial accounting, production of monthly management accounts and the processing of returns to HMRC.
• Ensure a strong internal control framework and effective financial policies and procedures are in place.
• Responsibility for the SU’s payroll system and ensuring that PAYE regulations are adhered to at all times.
• Ensure that insurance cover is adequate for all areas of the SU, whilst maintaining value for money.
• To ensure that the Union’s cash assets are regularly reconciled, effectively managed to optimise cash flow and invested in a manner that will maximise the interest earned.
• Manage relationships with University finance staff, auditors, tax advisors, insurance brokers and banks.

People Management

• Provide leadership and direction for the Finance Team.
• Provide leadership, direct and coaching for direct reports.
• Co-ordinate the work and monitor the workloads of direct reports, undertaking performance reviews for Finance staff as appropriate.
• Identify individual training and development needs for direct reports and the Finance Team and assist in their development.

Service Delivery Management

• Create a culture of excellent customer service, ensuring that staff treat colleagues, students and stakeholders in a friendly manner and do everything in their power to exceed their expectations.
• Be responsible for the development and maintenance of relevant regulations and policies.
• To lead the development of finance IT systems to simplify and streamline approaches whilst maximising efficiencies.

Compliance Management

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of UPSU’s Risk Register.
• To update and maintain the Union’s asset register and other records of the Union’s financial and physical resources.
• Lead responsibility for any IT Service Level Agreement with the University.
• Ensure the department’s operations are compliant with national and local legal requirements including Health & Safety and the Students’ Union’s internal procedures.
• Overall responsibility for all health and safety matters within the department, ensuring that the Health and Safety Policy and appropriate legislation is adhered to, ensuring the health and safety of customers, suppliers, and visitors to the Students’ Union.
• To produce timely and accurate financial reports to the University as required under the 1994 Education Act.

General

• Understand and uphold the Vision, Mission and Values of the organisation and ensure that these guide and inform the work and conduct of the post holder. UPSU has a democratic decision-making process and the post holder must always respect this when carrying out their duties.
• To cover any Duty Manager responsibilities as and when required.
• Keep UPSU’s strategic plan in mind at all times, aligning all work efforts with the plan
• Be knowledgeable of the UPSU Constitution and Bye-Laws, as they apply to this post, including any legal requirements.
• Work in accordance with all UPSU policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, Staffing Protocols, Financial Procedures and the UPSU Equal Opportunities Policy.

A prestigious university is recruiting a Head of Finance, Planning & Analysis to take on a key role and drive forward the university forward. As the head of FP&A you will be responsible for the following duties:

• Ensure the provision of a high standard of customer service in a business partnering capacity, delivering advice and information to budget-holders and senior managers in the University that is relevant, accurate and timely.

The role

Salix has recently gone through a period of significant growth and is still growing, which has led to significant change.  As part of our transformation, we have moved from having centralised budgets to devolved budgets, and this role will be instrumental in working with budget holders and the Finance team to ensure our budgets and reporting move with this transition.

The role

The Financial Accountant will report to the CEO and be part of our small management team. They will oversee our finances as we seek to scale up our grant-making while maintaining our high-quality assurance processes. They will also be responsible for providing scrutiny and a strategic eye to the management of our endowment. A small but important element of the role will be oversight of OCF’s cybersecurity. The successful candidate will combine a rigorous eye for technical detail with long-term thinking and a passion for our mission.

Accountable to: CEO

Key relationships: Treasurer, Chair of Finance Committee, Chair of Trustees, staff team and trustees and OCF fundholders.

Salary: £55,000 (full time equivalent) subject to negotiation for the right candidate.

Hours: 0.6 FTE (21 hours a week, which can be spread flexibly across the week)

Responsibilities

· Accountable for producing the Annual Report and Financial Statements in accordance with the Charity SORP, and being primary contact for the auditors.

· Preparation of annual budget and forecast, quarterly financial reports and monthly management accounts and updated forecasts.

· Maintain the detailed records of the endowment and restricted funds on a monthly basis. Oversee accurate statements for fundholders and provide ad hoc reports and analysis as required.

· Responsible for maintaining strong financial systems to provide accurate financial records and control systems for OCF, working closely with the Development and Grants teams to ensure complete alignment between internal systems (eg SAGE and Salesforce).

· Responsible for ensuring the Finance Committee is effectively supported, including: agenda and minutes, the production of timely reports, following up on actions and ensuring compliance with Charity Commission, HMRC Gift Aid and other reporting requirements.

· Liaise with OCF’s Investment Fund Managers (currently CCLA and Brompton Asset Management) and work with the Finance Committee to ensure performance is maximised.

· Monitor cash balances and ensure OCF is getting value for money on its cash.

· Management and development of a Finance Officer

· Oversight of effective delivery of all financial transactions, bank accounts, cash flow, bank reconciliations and staff payroll; includes oversight of checking the accounts for potential grant recipients.

· Bring to the early attention of the CEO and Chair of Finance Committee any matters of concern and risk in relation to the finances of OCF, and provide financial advice on mitigating actions.

Key competencies

Senior Finance Business Partner

Purpose of job:

In this role you will business partner with the Funding directorate to ensure high quality, accurate and timely budgeting and forecasting with respect to both restricted projects and unrestricted operational activity in the Funding team. You will work closely with the Funding Leadership Team and wider department and be their trusted financial advisor. This role will also give the successful candidate a unique opportunity to contribute to Comic Relief’s Shifting the Power Programme, a long term, transformative, civil society strengthening programme, co-funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), operational in Ghana, Zambia and Malawi.

You will be responsible for internal management information for senior management, alongside external reporting to funders. As part of the external reporting, you will be required to build relationships with external stakeholders including government funders such as FCDO and associated partners (including Anchor Partners who are co-funded by Comic Relief and FCDO as part of the Shifting the Power programme). This role may entail some overseas travel to partners. 

Key responsibilities:

Budgeting, Forecasting and Reporting

· Lead on budgeting & forecasting for the funding directorate including restricted budgets and forecasts and supporting on troubleshooting in these areas

· Accountable for ensuring donor reports completed by the Grants Accountant and Finance Assistant are accurate, completed to high standard and submitted on time

· Develop technical expertise in relation to our funding principals such as Shift the Power, and advocate for the adoption of these principles within financial planning, reporting and relationships.  Shifting the power principals challenge the conventional top-down approach, where donors hold power, and advocate for a more democratic, inclusive and sustainable approach, where local communities have a say in shaping and implementing projects that impact their lives.

Purpose of Role

The Finance Business Partner is the bridge between Finance and the other Directorates we support. The focus of the role is to provide finance expertise to budget holders to help them to understand their financial information and make informed decisions about their areas.

It is someone who truly partners with budget holders, to understand the key drivers, needs and priorities of different areas of the organisation and works with the relevant stakeholders to deliver our ambitious strategic goals.

The role

Support to budget holders:

• Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of all areas of the organisation.
• Establish strong relationships with and become the finance point of contact for budget holders with queries.
• Review monthly performance with budget holders and agree any revisions that are needed.
• Provide high quality financial support and training to budget holders on processes to develop effective budget management and controls.
• Implement and maintain strong business processes to support record-keeping, analysis, and good decision-making.

Monthly reporting process:

• Support the Head of Finance with month end process, to include: reconciliation of legacy funding with outsourced support organisation, accruals and prepayments.
• Run and review cost centre reports prior to sharing with budget holders.
• Distribute cost centre reports to budget holders and discuss variances .
• Compile incorrect transactions from budget holders and post correcting journals. Investigate reasons for mispostings and instigate corrective action.
• Produce management accounts and related variance analysis for Executive Leadership Team.

Budget and quarterly forecasts:

• Lead and coordinate the annual budget process, 3-year planning and quarterly reforecasting.
• Produce templates and guidance to support budget holders with budgeting and forecasts.
• Arrange meetings to discuss and support budget holders with completion of templates.
• Work with the Chief of Staff to align the annual budget and business planning processes.

Funder proposals and reports:

• Support Fundraising team and Programme implementation teams with proposals to funders.
• Work with budget holders to develop and maintain list of funding, timelines and reporting requirements.
• Prepare financial reports for external funders.

Ongoing support:

• Work closely with the Fundraising team to improve and strengthen reconciliations, reporting and system links between the CRM system (Salesforce) and the Finance System.
• Develop and deliver training to staff and volunteers on finance processes and understanding financial information.

• Support with the development and monitoring compliance of the financial policies and processes and controls.
• Support Finance process improvement activities.

Finance team tasks:

• Creation of and running reports and transaction queries from SUN systems using Q&A.
• Managing quarterly VAT return process.
• Support annual external audit to include preparation of schedules and financial statements/notes.

Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required of the post holder by the Ramblers.
