The Role
As our Head of Finance, you will actively lead on the management of all aspects of the finance function to include;
· The production of interim and annual financial statements that comply with the requirements of the Charities SORP (FRS 102).
· Preparing all information and supporting documentation for the annual audit, and liaising with the National Audit Office, and the NFC’s external auditors.
· Supporting the internal audit process.
· Fulfilling the accounting and reporting requirements to Defra.
· Working closely with the Director of Corporate Services and Senior Leadership Team to develop strategic financial initiatives that support financial forecasting, goal setting and financial planning.
You will directly line manage the Finance Manager, ensuring the smooth operations of the finance function.
Your role will also involve:
· Preparing the annual budget
· Overseeing and signing off monthly payroll
· Contributing to the development and management of financial systems and procedures
About You
To be considered as our Head of Finance, you will need:
· To be a qualified accountant with at least five years’ relevant experience
· Senior experience in the charity sector, including producing charity SORP compliant group accounts and monthly management accounts.
· Experience of the financial management of complex restricted funded projects
· Knowledge of charity trading and gift aid arrangements
· Good written and oral communication skills

The Role

The position holder will lead the organisation’s business development activities, ensuring a strong alignment between business development, revenue generation, strategy implementation, and mission achievement. Collaborating closely with the Development Director, they play a pivotal role in strategizing for the long-term growth of the organization and ensuring revenue targets are met.
They will regularly undertake donor landscape mapping to identify funding opportunities and trends, lead on the implementation and regular revision of the Business Development Strategy, facilitate intelligence gathering, donor scoping, track and identify donor opportunities. They will identify, create and maintains strategic and productive relationships with donors and partners. They will lead the development of high-quality proposals for major institutional donors, bilateral agencies and private foundations for large, competitive funding opportunities.
The position requires a strong sense of teamwork, networking skills, innovative thinking and creativity to actively create and pursue opportunities and support strategic and sustainable growth.
The successful candidate will have:
- Strong experience developing business development strategy
- Solid donor engagement and proven success is securing funding through proactive BD
- A strong business acumen and comfortably able to work and negotiate with partners at senior management level.
- Experience in international development particularly working in the global health sector.
- Significant experience in developing and managing project concepts and funding proposals for humanitarian / development work from institutional donors – including FCDO, USAID, Global Fund, UNITAID, GAVI, BMGF etc.
- Significant experience developing proposals for foundations and philanthropists
- Experience of commercial contracting, PBR contracting and institutional donor contracting mechanisms.
- Proven experience developing and cultivating strategic partnerships
- Proven ability to negotiate effectively with donors and partners.
- Experience of managing, motivating and leading people.
- Ability to build strong working relationships and foster open communications.
- Proven organisational skills: the ability to work productively and accurately under pressure in a fast-paced, demanding environment
- Degree in relevant subject (health, economics, development studies, statistics) with extensive experience in business development.
- Ability to facilitate project design processes, including applying theories of change and project logic to design, and develop plans accordingly.

The Head of Project Development is a new and pivotal role within the organisation that will bridge the gap between our fundraising efforts and the development and implementation of projects. This strategic position is focused on developing new projects based on clear evidence of need and alignment with PCR’s mission and priorities, as well as enhancing the case for existing projects. The role will work in collaboration with the delivery and partnerships team to develop cases for support and secure substantial funding to ensure we can continue to expand and deliver impactful, sustainable projects. The successful candidate will be instrumental in expanding our operational capacity, initiating innovative projects, and contributing significantly to our growth targets for impact and the associated income to achieve this.
Key Responsibilities

Project Development and Management: Spearhead the development of new projects and work alongside fundraising to develop bids to support existing initiatives, ensuring alignment with PCR’s strategic goals and funding opportunities.

Fundraising Support: Collaborate closely with the fundraising team to identify and secure funding from large statutory sources, including but not limited to the likes of the National Lottery Community Fund, NHS, NIHR, and Sports England.

Evidence Gathering: Develop a robust evidence base and demonstrate PCR’s capability through in-house or commissioned pilot work.

Strategic Planning: Contribute to strategic planning processes, identifying key obstacles to project development, and developing strategies to overcome them.

Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to ensure future project alignment with community needs and stakeholder expectations.

Proven experience in project development and management, preferably within the healthcare, research, or non-profit sectors.
