This is a critical time for nature. Biodiversity is in crisis. More than ever, we need to keep rigorously protecting the best places for nature we have left. But we also need to do much more to restore nature and to help it recover within and beyond these places.

European sites, SSSIs and other protected areas have been vital strongholds for nature in Scotland.

This role will lead our work making sure these protected areas, our best places for birds and wildlife, continue to be properly protected, monitored, and managed.It will also lead our work to make sure these places are bigger, better, and more joined up in future, helping nature’s recovery and tackling climate change.

About this role:

This role will lead the development of RSPB Scotland policy positions and advocate them effectively to decision makers at a senior level, influencing government policies and legislation to strengthen and deliver better outcomes for nature through networks of protected areas across Scotland. You will also play a key role in protected sites policy development and advocacy, working directly with government, public bodies, and businesses, as well as with RSPB colleagues and our partners across the UK. You will have the opportunity to work closely with RSPB Scotland’s policy, campaigns, communications and on-the-ground conservation staff, putting policy into practice.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Degree level qualification in a relevant subject or ability to show equivalent ability through work experience.
• A good understanding of environment/biodiversity legislation, public policy and its implications for conservation practice in relation to protected areas and protected landscapes.
• A good understanding of Scotland’s governmental and political institutions relevant to protected areas and landscapes.
• A good understanding of the role of public facing communications/campaigns in supporting policy advocacy.
• Able to analyse complex issues in a fast paced environment coupled with well-honed political acumen.
• Effective negotiation and influencing skills relevant to role.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentational), including an ability to speak confidently and cogently in public to a variety of audiences, including those with opposing views.
• Strong time management, prioritisation and organisational skills.
• Able to form effective teams (both internal and external) and work effectively as a team leader and as a team player.
• Proven experience of operating effectively in a policy and or advocacy role.

An opportunity has arisen to join the central Wildlife Trade team to ensure that good practice and innovation in wildlife trade approaches are effectively integrated and implemented into projects. This is a role based in our UK Headquarters providing technical input and support to our regional programmes, with an initial focus on supporting our projects in the Caribbean and Nicaragua. These projects involve working with local partners to implement interventions based on crime prevention and behaviour change techniques and to build law enforcement capacity.

A team player also able to work on your own initiative, you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to liaise across teams and cultures. You will enjoy applying your critical thinking to complex issues and explaining these in plain and accessible language. In addition to essential fluency in written and spoken English, skills in relevant languages, particularly Spanish, are also desirable.

You will have excellent facilitation, training and coaching skills, ideally with experience in developing and applying blended learning materials and methods. The ability to plan, organise and prioritise workloads to meet deadlines will be a key attribute. You will hold a relevant degree or equivalent qualification and/or professional experience on unsustainable or illegal wildlife trade issues in international conservation or related field. You will have technical skills and significant experience in the development, management, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of approaches to understand and tackle unsustainable and illegal wildlife trade in a conservation context. You will understand the need for inclusive, collaborative and evidence-based approaches to preventing illegal and unsustainable wildlife trade including, but not limited to, effective crime prevention, community-level responses to illegal wildlife trade, building enforcement capacity and demand reduction.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is the home of the Chelsea Pensioners (known as In-Pensioners). The Tenancy & Contributions Officer will lead on the delivery and continuing evolution of the tenancy agreement (known as the In-Pensioner Agreement). About the Role:

Victim Support (VS) is the leading independent charity in England and Wales for people who have been affected by crime and traumatic incidents. Understanding the experience and needs of victims and witnesses of crime is central to the charities' aims and vision.

As a Research & Lived Experience Officer you will have the opportunity to capture the voice of victims and promote evidence based recommendations to improve the experience of victims in the criminal justice system. You will be a part of a small but enthusiastic research team, while also having the opportunity to lead your own project.

You will have the opportunity to recruit participants and manage a Lived Experience Engagement Forum, and to regularly engage, build and maintain close relationships with the forum's participants. You will also need to conduct workshops/focus groups to collect feedback and insights from the participants on various products and procedures, and produce summaries of this feedback.

To be successful in the role you will need to have proven experience in recruiting vulnerable people to take part in research activities and conducting workshops or focus groups and interviews. Experience in writing and analysing surveys is an advantage. You will also have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work independently, as well as experience of working in partnership with various stakeholders. Having knowledge of victims of crime is desirable, but not essential.

Climate Change Adaptation Officer
Salary: £31,000 - £35,000

As the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sixth assessment report laid out in March 2023, we are now on the brink of irrevocable damage from climate change; this is our ‘final warning’ and the time is now for action to address this crisis.

The report highlighted that restoring nature was one of the key actions needed to address this issue. Somerset Wildlife Trust are at the forefront of this work in Somerset and are fully committed to this path through our Wilder Somerset 2030 Strategy and to delivering a vision whereby we reverse biodiversity loss and tackle the climate crisis.

Developing and further embedding the ‘Act to Adapt’ process, through our ‘Adapting Somerset’ and ‘Somerset’s Wilder Coast’ projects to support communities and to develop plans to adapt their local areas to the impacts of climate change.

Responsibility 1: Providing leadership and technical expertise

Being proactive and nurture strong relationships by:

• Providing leadership on SWT Climate Change Nature Adaptation work.
• Working closely with the Local Nature Partnership Coordinator and Advocacy Manager, and wider project team from partner organisations, to develop and deliver a programme of online and in-person communications, meetings and workshops. This is designed to foster climate change adaptation in the county supporting nature’s recovery and community resilience, and therefore involves working closely with farmers and landowners, all layers of local council, infrastructure experts, academics and the general public, including communities already impacted by flooding.
• Providing line management to the Climate Adaptation Assistant.
• Continuing developing the RAD approach for priority habitats, alongside the Landscape Recovery team, which will contribute to managing land within internationally important wetlands.
• Keeping abreast of national and international climate change developments and relate these to Somerset.

Responsibility 2: Engagement with Communities and Creating Robust Partnerships

Lead engagement efforts by:

• Contributing to discussions and workstreams developing climate change adaptation pathways at a county level, and in specific local areas relating to flooding, drought and wildfire.
• Developing information for a lay audience regarding the role of nature in reducing the impacts of climate change, including: sea-level rise; predicted changes in land use; warming, etc. and to help people understand what the future may bring especially in Somerset’s more vulnerable nature habitats.
• Supporting people’s wider understanding of the role of nature to mitigate climate change through carbon sequestration and storage.
• Continuing the rollout of the Act to Adapt process in local communities, organising events and workshops and using the Climate Adaptation Toolkit to explain the process of developing community and nature based solutions to the big issues of climate change.

Responsibility 3: Developing sustainable projects and evaluation

Lead and support projects and reporting by:

• Working with the Somerset Local Nature Recovery Strategy team to incorporate climate adaptation and vulnerability principles to these priorities.
• Assisting with work to share information and project developments with project partners in the UK.
• Developing and implement a communications plan that raises awareness of the project and its impact; garners support; and highlights Somerset as a place at the frontline for climate change. This will include engagement through social media and the production of awareness materials in printed and online formats.
• Managing the budget of the Adapting Somerset project and keep track of time contributions to the ELM’s Landscape Recovery and Somerset’s Wilder Coast projects.
• Monitoring and evaluating progress and impact, meeting project milestones and reporting to funders.
• Representing SWT externally in meetings, in the media and by giving presentations to various audiences.

In October 2022 Salford City Council commissioned Salford CVS to undertake research into the strengths of the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector as part of their Joint Needs and Strengths Assessment.

Every three years since 2008, Salford CVS leads on State of the VCSE Sector research in Salford and also across Greater Manchester. Working with other local infrastructure organisations, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the VCSE sector. Our last research report was published in 2021 and we have started planning for the research to be conducted this year.

In August 2023 we further developed our VCSE sector research and insight work with the commencement of our Salford 99 longitudinal study. This research project is designed to understand the issues affecting the VCSE sector in Salford and aims to track 99 VCSE organisations every six months for a three-year period, so that we gain ‘live’ insight in between our three-yearly State of the VCSE sector large research project. Alongside this work we conduct a Pulse Check survey with a variety of VCSE organisations to get a snapshot of what is changing for them each quarter.

This exciting VCS Research and Insight role involves a combination of VCSE engagement and insight work across Salford.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fundraiser, working full-time on-site. The Fundraiser who will play an integral role within our team, working with the CEO, and senior management team, responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies, organising events and campaigns, maintaining donor relationships, and researching and identifying new funding opportunities, building a strong pipeline of core and restricted funding, as well as donations and gifts.

You will seek to maximise funding opportunities, expand our portfolio of grant funders, and contribute to a growth in income from Trusts & Foundations. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching and identifying prospective funders, writing, and submitting high-quality grant applications, and delivering excellent grant management.

You should be a proactive self-starter, with excellent written communication skills and demonstrable strong attention to detail. With experience of successful fundraising bids to trust, charities and local authority, working with grant applications and/or funding proposals utilising a range of tools to identify new funding opportunities, as well as some experience of philanthropic fundraising.

The role

You will:

• Provide expert support, guidance, and information on cerebral palsy particularly within the context of Scope’s Strategy, to disabled people, families, professionals, Scope colleagues and members of the public.

• Be Scope’s representative within the region on cerebral palsy, joining existing CP forums and groups, helping the CP community to come together, and sharing Scope’s work within communities.

About you

You will:

• Have an in-depth knowledge of cerebral palsy, its causes, health implications, therapies, and available support due to a personal lived experience.
• Have experience and up to date knowledge of current issues that affect disabled people and those around them, specifically people with cerebral palsy.
• Have at least two years’ experience working in a customer focused environment.
• Have excellent communication skills with an understanding of different needs and being able to respond to these accordingly.
• Have a strong ability to convey complex information in an accessible way and engage diverse audiences.
• Be an excellent communicator who demonstrates effective person-centred listening, empathy, and probing skills to respond to underlying issues and assist customers to make informed choices.
• Be highly organised with the capacity to prioritise workloads effectively by using your own initiative. Ability to engage groups of people and individuals on the subject of cerebral palsy and disability.
• Have direct experience of the barriers that society creates for disabled people. Bringing drive and enthusiasm to the role, demonstrating that you care passionately about improving the lives of disabled people.

About the opportunity

Fundraising is critical to delivering our mission and ensuring we can support as many children and young people facing disadvantage to open doors to their future.  The Philanthropy Team as a whole has a combined target income for the current year (2023-24) of £1.83 million (growing to £2.35m as our target for next year), of which approximately £850k is from corporate donors and their foundations, £100k is from individuals, and the remaining from trusts and foundations. We have been successful year on year in increasing our fundraising base by building secure multi-year partnerships.
 

We are looking for a Fundraising Manager to work within our passionate Philanthropy Team to help grow our fundraised income and develop and maintain an effective, high-quality funding pipeline. Focussing predominantly on eliciting funding from trusts and foundations, and working closely with the Head of Philanthropy, CEO and Corporate Partnerships Manager, the Fundraising Manager will ensure the effective management of existing funder relations and take responsibility for ensuring Action Tutoring meets its reporting obligations. The Fundraising Manager will be responsible for the line-management and development of three Fundraising Coordinators, through which you and your team will prepare and submit grant applications and funding reports, alongside overseeing the development and growth of our individual giving activities and initiatives, including through expansion of our fundraising events and campaigns.

Duties and responsibilities

· Work with the CEO, Head of Philanthropy and Corporate Partnerships Manager to ensure Action Tutoring’s fundraising targets are met and manage an effective pipeline across Action Tutoring’s different income streams.
 

· Manage and maintain existing funder relationships, including proactive and requested reporting to donors.
 

· Work closely with the Head of Philanthropy and Corporate Partnerships Manager to identify relevant opportunities for collaboration that promote generating income. Alongside your team, support, prepare and provide expertise on applications for corporate funding opportunities identified by the Corporate Partnerships Team.
 

· Working with your Fundraising Coordinators, research and drive new opportunities for multi-year commitments from trusts and foundations, sharing workload between the team.
 

· Lead on the preparation and submission of high-quality, effective applications, with support from the Fundraising Coordinators. 
 

· Monitor when grants are due for renewal and proactively seek out renewal conversations, ensuring Action Tutoring has a healthy funding pipeline. 

· Work with the Fundraising Coordinator for Campaigns, Events and Individual Giving to build Action Tutoring’s income generated from events, ensuring an attractive range of event options across the country. Manage the Fundraising Coordinator to ensure places are secured, participants are supported and engagement is expanded.
 

· Work with  Fundraising Coordinator for Campaigns, Events and Individual Giving to build Action Tutoring’s income generated from individual giving, developing campaigns for driving more regular giving and building our strategies to cultivate, engage and thank individuals. 
 

· Act as a system manager for fundraising platforms, databases and tools including Just Giving and the Giving Block, with support from Fundraising Coordinators.
 

· Oversee the development of the fundraising area of the website and fundraising pack to attract new funders and fundraisers to the charity, with support from the Fundraising Coordinators.
 

· Manage the Fundraising Coordinators, ensuring they are growing and developing, and that work load is shared fairly. 
 

· Represent Action Tutoring at relevant meetings and events.
 

· Alongside your team, prepare applications for corporate funding opportunities identified by the Corporate Partnerships Team.
 

· Ensure accurate record-keeping of corporate partnerships and relationships on Salesforce and any other relevant systems.
 

· Any other ad hoc responsibilities as deemed relevant by the CEO.

Person specification

This role requires an ambitious, passionate and determined individual with outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Alongside your team you will be responsible for writing and submitting grant applications and reports, so an excellent understanding of the English language and a keen eye for detail are crucial for success within this position. Working to deadlines and line-managing three Fundraising Coordinators, exceptional time-management, prioritisation and organisation skills are essential. With a focus on developing our individual giving strategies, we’re looking for an individual with excellent interpersonal skills. 
 

Qualifications criteria:

· A*-C in maths and English at GCSE (or equivalent experience).
 

· Right to work in the UK.
 

We are looking for some of the following attributes, though you might be more experienced in some areas than others: 
 

· At least two years experience in fundraising (preferably within trusts and foundations fundraising).
 

· Proven track record in securing and stewarding 5+ figure partnerships.
 

· Outstanding written and verbal communicator with significant experience writing and submitting grant applications and reports.
 

You will be likely be more successful in this role if you have:
 

· You have a proven track record of securing and stewarding grants of 5+ figure funding.
 

· You have a passion for educational inequality/working within the Third Sector.
 

· Line management experience.
 

· Experience in event and campaign fundraising.
 

· Experience working within a charity with a turnover of £3M or more.

As the Research Analyst you will support the provision and development of UCEA’s pay and workforce benchmarking services and a range of wider employment-related projects. You will have the opportunity to conduct in-depth quantitative and qualitative research, to communicate your findings to members and wider stakeholders. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to keep abreast of issues affecting the full range of employers across the HE sector.

You will communicate complex information clearly, both in writing and verbally. You will analyse sector data, e.g. Higher Education Statics Agency and ONS, and build and maintain benchmarking dashboards. This requires current intermediate level R skills, or clear aptitude for learning R to intermediate level, and intermediate or advanced Excel. Experience of using survey software to collect, analyse and report on bespoke quantitative surveys is essential.
