The experienced Land team is led by this role and includes:

• The Programmes and Projects team running a large pipeline of work including our East Coast Wetlands work;
• The Species team that is setting out plans and delivering projects to recover nature such as the Turtle Dove;
• The Rural Surveying team that sets standards and manages opportunities for our 60,000+ha RSPB reserve estate in England,
• The Ecology and Land Management team which delivers an RSPB standard of land and habitat management as a contractual service externally.

What's the role about?

The Head of Land role provides strategic leadership and a country overview of our work on recovering nature habitat management (on and off reserves), manages country-level relationships with national conservation bodies and is responsible for country land management compliance via management of our rural surveyors. As a member of the Country Leadership Team the post holder will have collective responsibility for the development and delivery of the Country Strategy and accountability for the ensuring that we have an effective overview of our conservation work in country, ensuring standards and support needs are met.

The role is responsible for representing the RSPB’s conservation work in England to external national level audiences. Having an inspiring approach to communications and identifying collaborative opportunities and solving shared challenges in Nature Conservation would be welcome skills. The post holder will provide conservation leadership in country, maintaining an overview of progress against country species and habitats targets and ensuring that we are deploying the most effective interventions from our conservation toolkit in country.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Sound knowledge of the land management sector in England (including the legislative, policy and fiscal frameworks which drive land use change and management);
• A knowledgeable conservationist with proven ecological knowledge and ability to draw on practical and personal knowledge and experience to communicate with credibility to internal and external audiences;
• Experienced programme, project and risk manager able to manage complex programmes, dependencies, costs, time and project teams;
• Experience of setting and leading compliance with standards and developing and managing systems (of oversight and monitoring and review);
• Proven ability to translate strategy into action, developing programmes, prioritising and leading change;
• Proven leadership and people management skills, able to develop team members for high performance and build a positive culture;
• Experience of leading and developing large, multi-disciplinary teams, and
• Proven ability to influence others, build partnerships and negotiate at a senior level.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Policy Advisors to join our dynamic and well-respected Policy and Public Affairs Team.

We want to ensure people affected by dementia benefit from progress in research, by providing evidence and insights to influence decision-makers. This ranges from making the case to increase investment in dementia research, making the case for earlier, more accurate diagnosis of the diseases that cause dementia, through to preparing health systems and to be ready for future dementia treatments.

We work closely with key stakeholders, including government and other decision makers, to shape policy on dementia prevention, research, and access to future treatments.

At a historic time in the field, with the first drugs that tackle Alzheimer’s becoming available, this is a fantastic opportunity for the post-holder to develop specialist knowledge, working closely with the Policy Manager, and to contribute to significant projects that can change the future of dementia.

We are offering two permanent, full-time positions with a focus on; early and accurate diagnosis and clinical engagement and health systems.

Each role will require weekly attendance at our offices on Granta Park near Cambridge, with occasional travel to meetings and events in London and other locations.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

· Develop and maintain up to date and detailed knowledge of the policy landscape for a given policy area to position Alzheimer’s Research UK as a thought leader and enable us to effect positive change.

· Proactively identify and develop opportunities to engage with relevant stakeholders.

· Co-ordinate and manage assigned projects within the policy team.

· Gather and synthesise necessary evidence, including statistical information, health policies, and scientific outputs to develop insights, working with colleagues across the organisation as appropriate.

· Use insights to develop a range of outputs, such as scoping activities, briefing documents, literature reviews, reports, summaries and presentations for internal and external audiences.

· Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to help shape, deliver and influence the outputs of the projects, ensuring ongoing good communication with key stakeholders.

· Use public and patient involvement approaches to support insight development as appropriate.

· Analyse, interpret and present data using both quantitative and qualitative techniques as appropriate.

· Contribute to a range of submissions to government departments and their agencies, parliamentary committees, and other UK and international organisations as appropriate.

· Help develop and roll-out influencing and project ideas with key audiences that deliver against Alzheimer’s Research UK’s policy objectives.

· Support the work of Public Affairs colleagues to strengthen existing and emerging relationships with political and other parliamentary stakeholders. This will include helping to draft parliamentary questions, promoting tweets, sharing insight across and beyond the team.

Undertake any other relevant duties and projects delegated by the Policy Manager in line with the responsibilities of the post.

Additional Information:

Ways of working: As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

Roles that are classed as part of the Agile ways of working are not able to claim any costs for Mileage/Travel on Public Transport, Accommodation and/or Meals.  This includes when attending the office for various meetings/events.

The Campaign Coordinator will deliver a campaign strategy immediately before and after the General Election. You will lead local community teams who want to end the need for food banks, to get local Prospective Parliamentary Candidates to commit to prioritising the problem of people going without essentials if they are elected, and to acknowledge that that must involve a strengthened social security system.

This Cambridge City Foodbank (CCFb) role is funded by Trussell Trust as part of their General Election strategy, and you will be part of a network of Campaign Coordinators around the UK doing this work.

Responsibilities of Campaign Coordinator:

To build trusted relationships within CCFb and other food banks before, during and after the UK General Election. You will work with food banks across the Cambridgeshire & Peterboorough Combined Authority to build a team and coordinate campaign activity.

To create and support campaigns teams of community volunteers. You will have 1-2-1s with food bank staff, volunteers, partner organisations and stakeholders in each community to build support bases and get people to take part in campaign actions.

To lead community outreach including door-knocking sessions. You will door knock with your community campaign team to drum up support for the campaign, provide members of the public literature on food bank use in their local community, and invite people to their local hustings.

To support local campaigns teams to engage with Prospective Parliamentary Candidates, including organising local hustings. You will ensure that your community campaign teams: attend national Trussell Trust webinars, receive national guidance on how to approach Prospective Parliamentary Candidates, understand the Trussell Trust legal General Election guidance, understand the logistics of organising a hustings, ensure that the hustings is as accessible as possible and ensure that the voices of people with lived experience are heard through the hustings.

To deliver the local campaigning strategy working with CCFb and other food bank staff, volunteers, visitors and social supermarket members. You will set objectives for the campaign, monitor progress and evaluate impact.

To work with the Organising and Local Mobilisation strategy of CCFb and engage with the training and support on offer, including work with other Campaign Coordinators in the Trussell Trust network

ABOUT THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Compliance, Risk and Audit to join the wider Compliance, Audit and Risk team at SIG! You will have the overall responsibility of keeping participants, residents, and staff safe. The team manages the development, monitoring, and reporting of several areas including but not limited to accidents, incidents, and near misses (AINMs), safety reviews, safeguarding, whistleblowing, complaints, policy and procedure, health and safety, internal audit, business continuity planning and data protection.

As The Head of Compliance, Risk and Audit, you are the lynchpin of the wider team, linking strategic vision with solid and accountable implementation. You will be responsible for developing the team in the broad space of compliance as well as in their own areas of specialism, ensuring that a transparent and accountable compliance framework is implemented and embedded in line with regulatory and legislative change.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. At least 2 days per week in central office (Islington) and our services which are in and around London, Brighton & Hove, Kent, Havering, Bedford, Luton, Nottingham, and Liverpool.
The additional 3 days can be worked from home. You may at times be required to visit a service more than 2 times within a week.

ABOUT YOU

OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Line Management and leadership throughout employee lifecycle this includes; Recruitment, Onboarding, Inductions, training, support and supervision, relations, wellbeing support, and other areas.
• Formalise Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) to monitor objectives.
• Provide both line management and professional consulting using best available forums and mechanisms, including meetings, support effective teamwork and communication. Facilitate a culture where constructive challenge is welcomed, and conflict is managed supportively in line with relevant policies and procedures.
• Deputise for the Director as required.

Safeguarding, Audit, and Compliance

• Oversee the compliance audits across departments and services, providing support, and follow up with operational teams on a regular basis.
• Oversee the Safeguarding infrastructure, deputising for the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) as necessary. Oversee complaints and other processes and develop these to ensure they are safe, fair, equitable, and fit for purpose.
• Support services with commissioner led quality assurance framework (QAF) inspections and those registered with the CQC to maintain their portfolios and ensure they are ready for inspection at any time to retain their registrations.
• Promote and support a positive whistleblowing culture, assist Champions, People and Culture, managers and the audit and compliance team on concerns raised and ensuring the whistleblower is protected.

Reporting and Analysis

• Attend and develop AINMs review meetings for maximum impact in terms of positive safety culture. Ensure the lessons learned from AINMs reviews, safety reviews, and safeguarding concerns are shared and feedback loops are closed.
• Review the collation and analysis of AINMs and Safeguarding alerts, developing the Audit and Compliance team, as well as other operational teams in reflection and root cause analysis

Data Protection

• Monitor the use of external data protection and compliance partners to ensure we maintain ICO requirements and maintain our Data Security Protection Toolkit Certification.
• Monitor and ensure integrity in document control, policy, and procedures as they are developed, reviewed, and published.
• Understand and support an Information Security infrastructure alongside additional teams in the organisation and support Managers and teams with training and challenges where necessary.

KEY CRITERIA

What we are looking for:

• Proven experience in complaints and incident handling, safeguarding, data protection, and audits
• Proven experience in governance systems and structures which can include auditing, risk management, investigations, complaint handling, policy, procedure, and report writing
• Experience and/or ability to coach, develop, and manage direct reports
• Background in health, social care, criminal justice, and/or supported housing systems
• IT Proficiency, ability to learn new software programs, and ability to confidently use and utilise Microsoft programs
• Adequate understanding of the importance and mechanics of document control and writing policy and procedure
• Working knowledge of health and safety processes and procedures
• Ability to write reports in a clear, readable format

We are looking for an experienced monitoring and evaluation professional with exceptional people skills and a good understanding of nature recovery to help take ANT to our next level of impact by leading on monitoring and evaluation for the Lower Chew Landscape Recovery project.

Job Purpose
Your legacy will be a tangible impact on slowing down climate change, helping nature recover and creating social impact by leading on landowner and stakeholder engagement for the Lower Chew Landscape Recovery project that will see thousands of acres of local land managed in harmony with nature.

You will join a fast-growing organisation that started in 2019 with four volunteers and has grown to a staff team of thirteen (which will double over 2024), over 1,000 volunteers and ownership of 170 acres (soon to be 600 acres) of land that will grow woodlands of over 160,000 trees.

You will also provide light touch impact and knowledge inputs to Avon Needs Trees’ other woodland projects which include two Wiltshire Woodlands, the Great Avon Wood, Ed Woods, and the upcoming Lower Chew Forest.

The project
Landscape Recovery is one of Defra’s three environmental land management schemes. Avon Needs Trees has been awarded development phase funding for Landscape Recovery in the Lower Chew. This is a unique opportunity to help co design nature’s recovery and social impact at a landscape scale.

The project will engage existing landowners and managers across over 867 hectares of land in the Lower Chew, an area where good quality but fragmented woodland provides a basis for woodland connectivity and large-scale woodland creation, as part of a mosaic of grassland and woodland habitat. This locally-cherished landscape of rolling farmland on the edge of Bristol is the strategic setting for delivering local environmental and social priorities.

Main responsibilities
● You will make sure our amazing work in the Lower Chew and beyond creates maximum impact and that this is monitored, available and well communicated.This includes:
      ○ Putting in place monitoring and evaluation plans, systems and tools to monitor our ecological, economic and social impact
      ○ Identifying and highlighting our impact, for example gathering case studies on our human impact
      ○ Working with other team members to ensure our impact is communicated in a clear and concise way
      ○ Making our impact data available quickly and easily
      ○ Increasing our impact by being on top of emerging research, techniques and data to improve what we do
      ○ Dissemination of learning to help other projects
● Leading on a 20-25 year monitoring and evaluation plan for the Lower Chew Landscape Recovery project, whilst contributing to other plans, including:
      ○ Assessing and identifying learning opportunities
      ○ Incorporating baseline data into the monitoring and evaluation plan
      ○ Designing and establishing the monitoring and evaluation plan
      ○ Identifying future monitoring requirements
      ○ Packaging and disseminating learnings
● Work with the wider Avon Needs Trees team to help build a resilient, multi-site charity and undertake any other work necessary to pursue our aims
● As with all Avon Needs Trees roles, contributing to grant writing and fundraising activities

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Policy Manager to join our team. This position is based in the Policy and Public Affairs (PPA) team and reports to the Director of PPA. The Pandemic Sciences Institute (PSI) is recruiting a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Manager to provide expert support to two major programmes and also more broadly across PSI. This is an exciting new role which will concentrate on developing and embedding evaluation and learning practice within PSI’s activities, with significant opportunity to add value. It is anticipated that you will divide your time between three broad areas of work.

Africa Pandemic Sciences Collaborative (working title)

You will support the development and implementation of a MEL workplan for this initiative, based around the Theory of Change (ToC) and working closely with collaborators at Science for Africa Foundation in Nairobi.

The International Severe Acute Respiratory and emerging Infection Consortium (ISARIC)

You will lead on the design, implementation, delivery and continuous improvement of a MEL framework based on the ISARIC ToC model, using research and insight to inform developments. This will include defining and implementing cross-team data collection processes and tools, creating and championing a strategy for dissemination of and access to ISARIC outputs, and preparing reports.

PSI-wide activity

You will deliver guidance to other groups within PSI. This will include supporting researchers to articulate impact in grant applications and publications, and providing MEL expertise to ongoing projects. You may also be required to work with colleagues across the wider Department of Medicine to prepare material for the Research Excellence Framework 2028.

It is essential that you hold a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, alongside significant experience of planning and conducting monitoring and evaluation using different methodologies, gathering and analysing quantitative and qualitative data to demonstrate reach and significance of research impact. You will have excellent diplomacy, interpersonal and listening skills with proven ability to relate well to staff at all levels.  Familiarity with the UK Research Excellence Framework and experience in monitoring and evaluation of scientific, global health or policy research would be desirable.
