Substance Use Practitioner - Surrey Youth Justice Service

Job Description

We are seeking a driven and enthusiastic practitioner to join Catch22 Surrey Young People’s Substance Use Service (SYPSUS). This role will be seconded from Catch22 to Surrey Youth Justice Service (SYJS), based within the centralised YJS.

Ideally, we require practitioners to have relevant experience in delivering specialist substance misuse interventions to children and young people, as well as the wider experience of associated risk factors. However, we would encourage applications from qualified youth and community workers who have experience of working with vulnerable young people with complex needs. 

You must be able to demonstrate:

· The skills to deliver therapeutic interventions, such as brief solution focused interventions, and motivational interviewing.

· Contributing to systemic practice.

· Abilities to assess and identify early indicators of risk.

You will need:

· You should have a relevant qualification such as youth work, counselling, or relevant experience of therapeutic delivery, and alternative suitable qualifications.

· At least three years’ experience of treatment delivery with young people and families within the relevant fields.

· Good communication, organisational and ICT skills.

Responsibilities:

· To work alongside Surrey Youth Justice Service, as part of the virtual health team contributing to the health pre-assessment pathway and health action plan for young people up to the age of 18 years, either through direct contact with children and young people, or with professionals, parents, and carers.

· To offer accurate information on assessment and therapeutic interventions available through Catch22 SYPSMS and contribute to assessment and care planning related to targeted and specialist interventions for children and young people with substance misuse issues.

· To provide sustained support to a pre-defined caseload of young people who are referred by means of effective assessment and care planning.

· To act as a link worker between SYJS and Catch22 SYPSMS, ensuring delivery of an integrated provision for children and young people.

· To work alongside SYJS providing consultation and guidance. 

· To assess levels of presenting risk associated with substance misuse, and provide support in managing this risk.

· In partnership with SYPSMS colleagues, to deliver training and workshops to support and upskill staff. 

· To identify and develop resources to support professionals working with children and young people with substance misuse issues.

Qualifications

· Relevant qualification in either youth work studies, counselling, health and social care or equivalent.

· Skills, knowledge and experience relevant for the job.

ABOUT BRIGHTPIP

BrightPIP (Brighton Parent-Infant Psychological Therapy) is a specialist infant mental health charity supporting babies aged 0–2 and their families across Brighton & Hove and Sussex. We want every baby in our community to grow up feeling safe, healthy and loved. We provide early therapeutic intervention to strengthen relationships and prevent cycles of intergenerational trauma. We are a small, friendly and growing charity, supported by a dedicated clinical team and Trustee Board.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a trainee Infant and Early Years Practitioner (IEYP), on a course run in partnership with the Anna Freud Centre and University College London (UCL). The post-holder will be training on the Children and Young People’s (CYP) Infant Mental Health (0-5) course, whilst carrying out clinical work in our service to complement their studies and use their newly developed skills.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a training role that is part of the NHS England (NHSE) funded CYP Psychological Trainings Therapy Programme (CYP-PT Therapy PGDip).  This intensive training post will equip practitioners with a comprehensive skillset to provide interventions to families using the latest evidence-based approaches. This will include training in Incredible Years and Video-feedback Intervention to Promote Positive Parenting (VIPP).

Alongside the theoretical teaching of the training programme, the post-holder will have the opportunity to work within the BrightPIP service, providing practical interventions to families across Brighton & Hove. They will be integrated into our team of Clinical Psychologists and Psychotherapists and will take referrals as part of our service offer.

The successful post-holder will work in the BrightPIP service for 3 days per week and attend university for 2 days per week, with some study days spread throughout the year. During university holidays the trainee will continue to work with families.

FURTHER INFORMATION

NHSE funds salary and training costs for the 1-year post as part of a wider programme which aims to bridge gaps in services for children and young people’s mental health support. The role begins in January 2027 and the trainee will be both a fixed-term employee of BrightPIP and an enrolled student with UCL/Anna Freud. Upon completion, qualified trainees will receive a UCL Postgraduate Diploma. 

Training will be a mixture of in person and online sessions however applicants must be willing to travel into London to attend their lectures as needed. This is a unique opportunity that allows you to apply your learning week-to-week into practical clinical interventions making a direct impact on the lives of children and their families.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic practitioner to work and train within our service. The training post will equip the post-holder to provide interventions for children, young people and families using evidence-based intervention consistent with the course they are attending. The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

This is an exciting opportunity to join GamCare Yorkshire's Community Outreach & Training service, supporting a public health approach to preventing gambling-related harm and encouraging early intervention. As an Outreach & Training Practitioner, you'll deliver community outreach, awareness sessions, workshops, drop-ins and workforce training to improve understanding of gambling harms, reduce stigma and strengthen local pathways to support.

Working with local partners, professionals and community organisations, you'll deliver prevention-focused activity informed by local insight and lived experience, including Brief Interventions and appropriate signposting to the National Gambling Helpline and treatment services where needed. As an independent charity and the leading provider of support for anyone affected by gambling harms, the work you do will help GamCare reach communities across Yorkshire & Humber and make a real difference to people's lives

About you 

We're looking for a motivated and compassionate individual with experience delivering community-based outreach, engagement or prevention activity, and a good understanding of gambling-related harm within a public health, prevention or early intervention context. You'll be confident holding supportive conversations that encourage awareness and behaviour change, with strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to engage professionals and diverse or seldom-heard communities. Experience delivering training, workshops and awareness sessions in a non-judgemental, stigma-reducing way is important, as is strong organisational skills, confidence using IT systems, and a commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries. DreamArts fuses arts and therapeutic practice to support wellbeing. Our acclaimed EXPERIMENT Juniors programme engages 6-12 year olds to explore and unleash their talents, try things out, express themselves and grow their skills.

Participants take control and create their own original work, from musicals to collaborating with companies such as Les Enfants Terribles. 

EXPERIMENT takes place on a Saturday in South Westminster and on Sundays in Church Street plus some special projects during school holidays. The majority of participants are eligible for free school meals and live in some of London’s most deprived areas.  

We are looking for a Wellbeing Practitioner for our Sunday group who is able to inspire and support young people, in particular those who may struggle in group settings. You must be passionate about engaging participants from marginalised communities and committed to support wellbeing through the arts. You will help young people participate in creative sessions that provide opportunities to explore their challenges, build a sense of belonging with peers and strengthen their emotional wellbeing.

Working alongside creative facilitators, the Wellbeing Practitioner will focus on identifying and removing barriers to participation, identifying appropriate support that responds to emerging needs and creates a sense of community.

About the Role

Daylight Women’s Day Centre is an exciting new service providing a place of safety and support for women who are long term rough sleepers in London. We want to reach women who have experienced abuse, mental illness, addiction, poor physical health, unclear immigration status and homelessness.  Our support will improve their health and wellbeing and enable them to move away from the streets.

Daylight has been designed based on findings from the CHAIN rough sleeping data for London and the Women’s Rough Sleeping Census. This evidence highlights the importance of single gender services for women who hide from mainstream provision dominated by men.  Daylight will reflect the Connection Theory of Change, building relationships of trust with people who have no confidence in most health and social care services.   Therefore Trauma Informed Care lies at the heart of everything we do.

As part of our creative and committed team, you’ll play a key role in:

• Building trusting relationships with women facing multiple exclusion and who are rough sleeping in London.
• Understanding the needs of the women accessing Daylight, providing harm minimisation support, access to healthcare and treatment.
• Helping women to move into accommodation and away from the streets
• Developing strong working relationships with a wide range of partners, ensuring The Connection’s Daylight service is a highly respected part of the response to women’s rough sleeping in London

About the role:

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated trainee Children's Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) to join our service. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside The Children's Society Wellbeing Service whilst also completing a Postgraduate Diploma or a Graduate Diploma in Psychological Therapies Practice (Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - Children, Young People and Families) at the University of Exeter.

This is an employment based training role within the forming part of a NHSE, HEE and DoH initiative to expand the mental health workforce, offering support to children and young people at a stage of early intervention. The trainee Children Wellbeing Practitioner will be trained over the course of a year to deliver brief, focused evidence-based psychological interventions in the form of low intensity support and guided self-help to young people who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, such as anxiety, low mood and common behavioural difficulties. Intensive clinical supervision and practice development will be provided. The post is salaried, and the training fully-funded for its duration. The training is delivered by the University of Exeter.

We are seeking candidates with a commitment to evidence-based practice, young people's participation, routine outcomes monitoring, promoting shared decision making and collaborative practice with children and families. The training will commence in January 2027. The trainee CWP will attend University-based taught and self-study days required by the education provider, as specified within the agreed national curriculum and then work in the service area for the remaining days of the week using their developing skills.
