Our client is an independent grant-making charitable trust, founded in 1930 to support the urgent and future needs of the UK. We believe the wellbeing of the UK’s people is enhanced both by its cultural heritage and by the social initiatives that support people experiencing disadvantage. We support organisations that share our commitment to delivering positive and lasting change. Prospectus is delighted to be working with the trust to recruit a Grants Manager to lead and develop the Preservation and Conservation programme, supporting the repair and conservation of historic buildings, the conservation of significant cultural heritage, and enabling sustainable futures for heritage at risk.
The role:
Reporting to the Director and working within a small, friendly team of six, you will take end-to-end responsibility for the trust’s preservation and conservation grant-making, from advising applicants and assessing proposals through to due diligence, writing papers for decision-making, presenting at Board meetings and managing grants post-award. You will build trusted relationships with applicants and grantees, many of whom are small, volunteer-led organisations, through thoughtful communication, meetings and visits. You will also help strengthen programme effectiveness by contributing to learning and impact work, improving application and monitoring processes, keeping the grants database accurate, and working with colleagues to share insights and celebrate outcomes.
The person:
You will bring at least three years’ grant-making experience in the heritage sector, alongside strong knowledge of heritage funding and policy, and a grounded understanding of the pressures and opportunities facing smaller organisations. You will be analytical and numerate, confident interrogating accounts and using grant databases to extract and interpret data, and you will communicate with clarity, care and excellent attention to detail. Comfortable working with minimal supervision, you will also be a collaborative, adaptable team player with strong IT skills, including Excel, and a genuine enthusiasm for the trust's mission.
This is a permanent, full-time role based at Somerset House, Strand, London (WC2R 1LA) with hybrid working; two days per week must be in the office, including Wednesdays, with the option of home working on other days. The role involves regular UK travel with occasional pre-planned overnight stays.
