Job description

Prospectus is delighted to be supporting Young Roots as they look to appoint a Head of Finance and Internal Operations. The role is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, and reports directly to the CEO. It combines strategic thinking and operational activity, including hands-on management of finance, human resources, IT, premises and administration.  The position is offered on a permanent full time basis and requires candidates to come into Croydon or the Brent Office at least 2 days per week.

Young Roots is a London-based charity working with young refugees and asylum seekers aged 11-25, most of whom are alone in the UK without their families. They support young people to improve their wellbeing and fulfil their potential, through intensive one-to-one Casework, youth and sporting activities, English language mentoring, youth leadership and access to specialist therapeutic and legal advice.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced finance professional to come in and develop the team and strategy for each of these crucial functions. With the current line management of 2 members of staff, plus an external consultant, this role offers the opportunity to oversee operational delivery, whilst allowing the post to develop high level strategy with the CEO and wider SLT.

The successful candidate will be an experienced finance professional with experience within a charity finance context, whether that is within a charity or private practice working with and for charities. You will have experience of supporting a finance function that caters to complex restricted programmatic income and support in building a more flexible funding model for the future. You will have excellent communication skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders including non-financial staff and trustees.

Young Roots recognises the positive value of diversity, promotes equity and challenges discrimination. We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly those who can face disadvantage in employment, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ individuals and people with disabilities. As an organisation that supports refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, we particularly welcome applications from people within these communities.

Young Roots is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. We operate a system of safer recruitment and employment is subject to receipt of satisfactory references,  pre-employment checks and a DBS check.
