About WFSA and our cause

Surgery and anaesthesia have a fundamental and growing impact on global health outcomes. Surgical intervention could address over 30% of the global burden of disease, and yet the poorest 33% of people receive just 3.5% of all surgery. Post-operative mortality rates 1,000 times higher than in some high-income countries can be found in parts of the world where surgery and anaesthesia have been neglected, and in some countries as many as 90% of anaesthetic departments do not have the equipment to provide a safe anaesthetic for a child. 

With 146 member societies made up of anaesthesiologists in over 150 countries, WFSA is uniquely placed to influence these inequalities and to help ensure universal access to safe surgery and safe anaesthesia. 

The role

This sits within the Communications, Advocacy and Digital Learning Team and reports to the Digital Learning Manager. You will work closely with all members of our staff team (the Secretariat), as well as many of our committees and key stakeholders. Relationships with member societies and our WFSA Board and Council will also be important; an ability to interact across a range of stakeholders is essential. This is an entry level role which offers huge scope for development and learning across a broad remit.

The role is offered either on a hybrid working basis with access to WFSA’s central London office or fully remote. Note, the majority of working hours would need to overlap with those of the United Kingdom.

Purpose of role 

To provide administrative, operational and technical support across WFSA’s digital learning portfolio. Particular focus is given to online publications and the Anaesthesia Online Learning Community (AOLC), which encompasses our webinars, online courses and other educational resources. 

You will handle day-to-day admin, user support, reporting and content updates, ensuring smooth delivery of our educational activities and freeing capacity for senior staff to lead strategic development.

You will be part of a small, supportive team working with global volunteers, committees and partner organisations, helping us deliver high-quality, accessible online learning at scale. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in global health to develop skills in online education, digital content management, webinar operations and LMS administration. 

Key tasks and responsibilities 

1. AOLC support

• Support the Digital Learning Manager in delivering the Anaesthesia Online Learning Community (AOLC) project action plan and coordinating with volunteer faculty when needed. 

• Provide administrative support for the e-learning platform, including uploading content, enrolling users, checking enrolment reports, and routine maintenance tasks. 

• Respond to routine user queries (e.g., certificates, access to recordings, account/password issues). 

• Upload new educational resources to the Virtual Library (WordPress). 

 2. Webinar administration & delivery

• Manage speaker admin: collecting bios and photos, sending consent forms and reminders, requesting Power Point slides, and gathering essential details. 

• Prepare webinar materials such as introduction slides, panelist briefing documents, and certificates. 

• Provide support for running webinars (e.g., managing waiting rooms, chat/Q&A, recordings), compile webinar analytics, and produce standardised reports. 

• Update the webinar calendar and the webinar section of the WFSA website (WordPress). 

3. Publications support (ATOTW & UIA)

• Assist the Managing Editor with administrative tasks for Anaesthesia Tutorial Of The Week (ATOTW) and Update in Anaesthesia (UIA). 

• Liaise with partner organisations and volunteer translators, track translation progress and upload translated content to WordPress.

4. Other duties

• Provide updates for donor reports and project summaries as requested. 

• Support internal meetings: scheduling, agendas, minutes. 

• Help draft or schedule educational email campaigns in Mailchimp.

Knowledge, skills & experience

Essential

We are looking for a part time Membership Officer to work 3 days a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday), alongside our existing part time Membership Officer. The position is hybrid, with at least one day a week (Tuesday) in the office in Archway. Together, they will lead on administrative support of our membership functions. Reporting to our Office and Events Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the administrative functions that support the smooth running and ongoing success of the organisation around membership.

This is an interesting and varied role that acts as a first 'point of contact’ for the people we work with (such as Member Institutions, Registrants and queries from members of the public), as well as managing the administrative aspect of memberships, such as setting up new Registrants on our CRM system. The role also involves longer term project work such as overseeing the CPD audit and improving and growing membership processes.

We are seeking a committed and motivated Head of Fundraising to deliver the OCT’s ambitious fundraising requirements. This is a vital role for the Ocean Conservation Trust (OCT) leading on the development and delivery of the full spectrum of fundraising activities to support our mission. The post holder will be a key contributory member of the Senior Management Team. 

The OCT has ambitious fundraising requirements. In addition to the funds raised through the National Marine Aquarium (NMA), the OCT needs a more diverse income stream to drive its core programmes, through the development of appropriate corporate, philanthropic and donation initiatives.

The post holder will need to understand the core programmes and develop appropriate schemes and campaigns to build a wide support network to secure a lasting pipeline of donations. They will need to be entrepreneurial, self-motivated, team focussed, comfortable liaising across the organisation to ensure integration with activities such as communication, research, membership, publications, partnerships and data and information services among others. They must own income targets and lead income growth, thinking in terms of pipelines, ROI, KPIs and lifetime value. In addition, they will be key to maximising use of the customer relationship management (CRM) system.

Overall, this role will be fundamental in developing the OCT as the leading Ocean conservation charity in the UK, generating significant new and diverse revenue streams to drive the Charity’s ambition.  They must be capable of moving OCT beyond NMA visitor income, building a resilient, mixed portfolio.

You will lead a team of 3 staff members and be accountable for achieving specific funding goals to deliver our strategic plans. The post is based at the National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth, UK. Flexible working arrangements include 3 days office/2 days home.

Key Responsibilities   

To work closely with the Evidence & Advocacy Manager (EAM) to develop and implement a series of impactful evidence and research projects that support our advocacy messaging, as well as internal and external learning for inclusive programmes and advisory work. These projects will build on established workstreams alongside developing new ones to maintain and extend CBM UK’s evidence base.

Disability Evidence, Policy Research and Learning  

With EAM support the ongoing CBM UK Research and Evidence workstream, through:

1. Translating evidence from our programming countries and projects to produce and contribute to a range of resources to influence FCDO and other stakeholders. Tasks to include managing and maintaining established outputs, such as the CBM UK Project Evidence Briefs and Disability Voices paper series, generating new thematic papers, as well as policy and position papers to enhance effective advocacy submissions, briefing notes, blogs and other messaging on key disability rights issues.   
2. Working collaboratively within CBM UK and across CBM Global to help develop and to deliver new policy research, drawing on mixed methods and data sources including national and international databases, using qualitative approaches including participatory or citizen generated data, and new empirical work.
3. Supporting Programme staff to improve impact and learning practice in CBM UK funded projects, provide technical support for the implementation of programme related research and data collection, including MEAL.
4. Providing technical research support into the development of proposals for new grant funded projects, and, where successful, support the management of subsequent research projects. 
5. Keeping abreast of new research and publications on key themes and priority concerns within the CBM UK Advocacy and Influencing Strategy, taking into consideration sector trends and developments, and ensure this is disseminated to relevant staff within the CBM UK Team. 
6. Keeping watch on UK policy environment and conducting research and analysis to support CBM UK advocacy messaging on disability and human rights.

Dissemination and Communications 

1. Maintaining and developing internal knowledge management systems for research and information on disability inclusion and rights, and related areas, to be used by Advocacy, Programmes and Fundraising & Communications teams.
2. Ensuring communication plans are developed with CBM UK and Global Federation colleagues for CBM UK evidence outputs.
3. Maintaining the Advocacy and Influencing pages of the CBM UK website ensuring rights-based communication and focus to support CBM UK and Global campaigns.
4. Liaison with Fundraising & Communications colleagues to amplify media stories, case studies and compelling evidence from country programming for advocacy purposes.
5. Participation in and building good relationships with UK-based disability and development networks, including relevant research networks and membership of the BOND Disability and Development Group. 
6. Supporting the professional publication and printing of CBM UK outputs, for dissemination at advocacy engagements and public events.

1. Work with other CBM UK teams to maximise cross fertilisation opportunities and integrated working.

Main Purpose of the Role

The Fundraising and Communications Manager will play a pivotal role in driving Reef-World’s mission to protect and sustainably manage coral reefs and coastal ecosystems worldwide. This hands-on, senior position combines leadership of the charity’s fundraising and communications function with strategic oversight, ensuring that Reef-World maximises its global reach, secures sustainable income, and delivers compelling, mission-aligned messaging across all channels. This position reports directly to the Directors.

You will lead the development and delivery of income generation strategies while overseeing multi-channel communications, digital engagement, media relations, and brand stewardship. You will manage a small, dynamic team of staff, consultants, and volunteers, coordinating resources to support programme delivery and ensuring high-quality outputs that enhance both conservation impact and fundraising success.

You will join a remote, globally distributed, and diverse team, collaborating across multiple countries and cultures to advance Reef-World’s mission. You will be given autonomy to lead the fundraising activities of the organisation and will be encouraged to try new things and take ownership of the fundraising portfolio as a whole. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven, proactive, versatile professional to shape the charity’s growth, profile, and influence in marine conservation on an international scale.

Our Fundraising Landscape

We have had steady year-on-year growth in income since we were founded, with a shortfall recorded last year. The shortfall in income for the last financial year is down to our main donor, the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) not being able to provide funds due to the global economic and political climate. This grant source is naturally very unpredictable in nature, however, we had previously successfully secured a year-on-year budget from UNEP since 2009.  You can see our financial history on our Charity Commission listing. Our financial year runs from June to May. For June 2024 to May 2025, our fundraising target is £425,000. We have secured £240,000 of this, and around a further £60,000 is unconfirmed but likely.  However, we have previously successfully secured a year-on-year budget from UNEP since 2009. 

So far in the current financial year, 65% of our income is grant income, corporate sector and commercial partnerships make up 17%, individual giving is 7%, and 11% of income comes from programme’s products and services. 

This role is replacing a Development Manager who joined in March 2024 and created this as a new role. Through her leadership and guidance we have strong foundations across all fundraising streams to build on. We would like the post holder to maintain our excellent track record for grant funding while further establishing and growing new sources of income, especially unrestricted income. We’re open to exploring most kinds of income generation but are particularly interested in exploring corporate fundraising and major donor opportunities and have good foundations upon which to build here.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy and Leadership

• Lead the development and delivery of Reef-World’s Fundraising and Communications Strategy.

• Provide strategic direction to a small team of staff, consultants, and volunteers.

• Set and monitor targets across fundraising, communications, and digital engagement, reporting progress to senior leadership and the Board.

Fundraising & Income Generation

• Develop and deliver a diverse income strategy with a specific focus on corporate partnerships, major donors, high-net-worth individuals (HNWI) and philanthropy.

• Support trusts and foundations fundraising in collaboration with the Directors and Programmes team.

• Oversee and maintain steady growth of the individual giving income stream.

• Ensure fundraising compliance, data protection, and effective risk management.

• Maintain accurate records in the CRM system.

Communications

• Oversee planning and production of content across websites, social media, digital channels, media, and publications.

• Act as a senior point of contact for outreach partners (press, media, and content contributors), ensuring consistent messaging and brand alignment.

• Maintain Reef-World’s brand and ensure consistent, mission-aligned messaging.

• Approve and guide design of key outputs, including annual Impact Report, newsletters, fundraising packs, and campaign assets.

• Lead high-level media relations and manage external agencies and consultants.

• Ensure digital platforms and campaigns effectively support fundraising and programme goals.

• Coordinate communications support for the Programmes team, ensuring timely delivery of materials that enhance programme impact and engagement.

People Management

• Provide supportive leadership to the Fundraising & Communications Officer and wider team.

• Manage one permanent Social Media consultant and two project based communications and design consultants.

• Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and workforce planning.

• Foster a positive, collaborative team culture aligned with Reef-World’s Culture of Care.

We are recruiting a part time Transport Lead to join our new initiative: Live Longer Better in an Age Friendly Hertfordshire where your skills can make a meaningful impact within local communities. This post is for 21 hours per week and will be hosted by North Herts and Stevenage CVS.

This pivotal role within the programme team supports the effective delivery of our work within local places so that more people across the county can enjoy their later life.

Working under the programme Lead and working closely with the programme team you will take responsibility in ensuring that the local delivery plans are implemented, working with the wider stakeholders in the local community.

You will work on key actions, such as working with transport providers on support of bus shelter upgrades, leading on the chatty bus campaign, supporting the implementation of age friendly training for bus drivers and improving access to transport information, as well as other forms of transport including community transport schemes. In addition, you will play a key role with the programme communications and working with local communities, including overseeing and maintaining our approach to keeping contact with members, responding to enquiries and requests, coordinating events and email communications.

• Represent the programme and partner organisations at local community events, partnership meetings and engagement activities.
• Support establishment and ongoing delivery of local Older People’s Forums or equivalent structures to ensure strong resident voice in shaping priorities.
• Work with local authority and VCFSE partners to identify and pursue funding opportunities that can support local Age Friendly projects and innovation.
• Recruit local organisations, community groups and stakeholders to join the Age Friendly Network and strengthen commitment to age-friendly practices and sign up to the Age Friendly employer pledge.
• Participate in programme steering groups, providing insight from local delivery to inform countywide planning, priorities and system-level action, and vice versa.
• Lead or support delivery of local campaigns and engagement activities, including initiatives linked to national movements (e.g., International Day of Older People, Act Now Age Better, Take 5 to Age Well).
• Promote and support awareness, recruitment and engagement with the Age Friendly Ambassador Programme across the local area.
• Support development and implementation of the action plan for the local area, ensure it remains on track and is delivered within agreed times.
• Manage volunteers who will be supporting the implementation of the local action plan.
• Engage stakeholders across community, voluntary and statutory sectors to build commitment, through attending meetings.
• Establish means by which to engage with local people, raise awareness and interest in participating in the initiative.
• Research and coordinate policy development in line with this work.
• Prepare and present briefings and reports about progress against plans, at internal and external events.
• Produce written reports as required for internal management purposes as well as for wider external publication.
• Maintain a ‘lessons learned’ document to support and guide other areas wishing to progress an 'Age Friendly' assessment and programme of work.
• To develop an understanding of the needs of older people which are not being fully met and feed this information into the ongoing development plans for our services, and to help us target activity to address these needs.
• To assist with the evaluation of service feedback and ensure that relevant information is acted on by services and also used to develop future services.
• Keep accurate records using the partnership’s client management system.
• Set up Network meetings and record minutes.
• Ensure all activities are delivered in accordance with agreed policies and procedures e.g. equalities and diversity, health and safety, confidentiality, data protection etc.
• Support regular network communications, including the monthly newsletter and member bulletins.
• Work with the team to ensure the online resources and web pages are up to date, accurate and accessible to members, and meet the needs of new and potential members.
• Promote and support open and effective collaboration across the programme.

• Knowledge of statutory or voluntary agencies, ideally in Hertfordshire, and how they relate to those over 55 years of age.
• Knowledge of GDPR and its’ application in managing activities and volunteers.
• An understanding of marketing and communications.
• The ability to build effective working relationships with a range of people across sectors, and organisations, representing people of different cultures, background and beliefs.
• Ability to think strategically and develop/deliver detailed implementation plans.

You should have experience of:

• Team administration, supporting teams and individuals
• Working on multiple projects and managing multiple deadlines & stakeholders simultaneously.
• Working with membership, contact or stakeholder management tools (e.g. excel, CRM).
