The key duties of the Director of Finance are as follows:
- Support the CEO and Senior Leadership Team in developing HET's organisational strategy and plans, ensuring they are financially sustainable.
- Play a key role in the senior management team and attend and present at various Committee and Board meetings.
- Prepare and present accurate and timely financial data and supporting narrative including strategic plans, budgets, management accounts, and live forecasts, updated monthly or as required.
- Support in the creation of, and challenging on, departmental budgets; presenting budget to Board and budget holders.
- Lead on the financial side of grant and contract reporting and applications.
- Work with the wider team to ensure procurement procedures are getting value for money and contracts are financially sound.
- Maintaining a high standard of strict internal controls.
- Ensuring financial policies are complete; reviewed and updated.
- Effectively line manage the Finance Manager and support their, and the wider Finance team’s, development.
- Support the Finance team in the implementation and use of the new Finance System.
The successful candidate will have:
- A recognised accounting qualification.
- Significant strategic and business planning experience, scenario planning and investment management.
- Expert knowledge of financial control procedures, SORP and charity accounting.
- Experience of presenting complex financial information to Trustees and Board of Management as well as to non-finance managers.
- Proven leadership skills and management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including sound report writing and presentation skills.
- Experience in new systems implementation / change management.
This is a hybrid role based in London, offering the potential to work from home up to three days per week. It presents a full time opportunity, although 0.8 FTE will be considered for the right candidate. We assist 430 beneficiaries, most of whom the Trust has worked with since they were children. We are often the first port of call for any issues they face. As our beneficiaries are now in their 60s, we must continue to evolve to meet their changing needs. The Trust is approaching a crucial transition point - effectively becoming an older person’s charity over the next 10-20 years, as the group’s needs become ever more complex and diverse. We must ensure we are ready to provide much-needed support to our beneficiaries as they face the typical challenges of aging that impact them more as thalidomide survivors, as well as the unique impacts and accelerated aging caused by thalidomide damage.
Our current Director of Health & Wellbeing is taking on the Joint Chief Executive role with our existing Executive Director. This means we need a new Director of Health & Wellbeing to join in October this year to lead our fantastic, 12-strong team of health & wellbeing professionals though this transition period. They will ensure they have the resources and skills to support our beneficiaries into this next phase of life, maintain and build on our award-winning culture, contribute to the development of the Trust’s next Five-Year Strategic Plan, and lead the implementation of the health and wellbeing objectives and deliverables within the plan.

Job title: Director of Health & Wellbeing
Salary: £80,000 - £85,000
Contract: Permanent, full time with flexible working
Location: St Neots, Cambridgeshire, with hybrid working (2-3 days per week in the office). The role also requires regular travel to meet beneficiaries in their homes (including for Holistic Needs Assessments)

The Director of Development and External Affairs will determine a strategic plan for business development, fundraising and commercial opportunities within the remit of the role. Supported by a small Development team, this will include corporate sponsorship, hire and hospitality, filming and photography location shooting, as well as fundraising revenue streams. You will manage both capital and revenue income targets and support an experienced Audience & Communications team to increase visitor attendance to achieve c. 400,000 visitors per year. Crucially you will deputise for the Chief Executive where appropriate.
The selected candidate will have leadership experience in an organisation of at least comparable scale and complexity and will have a track record of developing and delivering successful strategies across, fundraising and business development and preferably marketing. Ideally, you will have bags of enthusiasm for the Museum’s cause and independence and will enjoy working in and harnessing a supportive and creative organisation which attracts and retains diverse talent.
