Send My Friend to School (SMF) is a UK civil society coalition of international development NGOs, teachers’ unions and charities. It brings together young people, politicians, teachers, civil society and the media in joint campaigning to demand quality education for all children across the globe. Each year thousands of schools and young people take part in the campaign, teaching young people the power and importance of using their voices in chorus with others across the globe to create positive change.
Send My Friend to School is the UK coalition of the Global Campaign for Education movement which is present in over 80 countries around the world, and is hosted by RESULTS UK.
Location
The post is hybrid with in-person work based at our office in Waterloo, London. Currently, most RESULTS UK staff are combining working from home with coming into the office 2 days a week. This is open to negotiation. You will be expected to attend SMF events and Parliamentary events/meetings in-person.
Terms & Conditions
This role is currently a part time (21 hours/3 days per week). There is a 3 month probation period. There is likely to be occasional evening and weekend work involved, for which time off in lieu will be received.
Holidays are 25 days pro rata (i.e. 15 days for a 3 day-a-week contract) per year plus bank holidays. RESULTS UK’s terms and conditions of employment will apply.
Line Management
This role will be managed by the Campaign Manager at Send My Friend to School.
Role description
The purpose of this role is to:
1. Lead on planning and the delivery of Send My Friend to School’s high-level youth engagement projects.
2. Lead on communications and social media for Send My Friend to School.
3. Provide logistical and administrative support for Send My Friend to School activities.

1. Lead on planning and the delivery of Send My Friend to School’s high-level youth engagement projects
Campaign Champions
Each year, SMF works with around 20 young people, in years 9-10, to campaign for global education for all.
The Campaign Officer role leads this project. This involves:

Maintaining relationships with key members of staff at Campaign Champion schools.

Managing the annual recruitment process for Campaign Champions.
-
Planning and delivering a weekend residential to train the young people in advocacy and campaigning skills.

Planning and delivering a trip to Parliament for the young people where they will engage with MPs and Ministers.
-
Supporting the young people to engage MPs at Party Conferences.
-
Keeping in touch and sharing opportunities to shape the activities of the coalition within the Campaign Champions alumni network.
Community Champion Network
We have a number of schools who will run the SMF campaign in their setting each year. These schools are part of our Community Champions network, who we maintain a close relationship with in order to have greater insight into how the campaign is being delivered and received in schools.
The Campaign Officer role supports this project. This includes:

Maintaining relationships with key members of staff at Community Champion schools.

Supporting schools to produce blogs or newsletter content about their experience of delivering the campaign.

Supporting schools with guidance and advice about inviting their MP to the school to see their work on the campaign.
-
Occasionally, carrying out school visits to understand and document the campaign in action.
Young Ambassadors
Each year, the Steve Sinnott foundation supports SMF to bring two Young Ambassadors from the Global South to the UK.
The Campaign Officer role leads this project. This includes:

Coordinating with partner organisations on the planning and delivery of the visit.

Booking travel and accommodation, supporting with visas,
-
Planning and booking an itinerary of engaging and impactful activities for the young people e.g. visiting schools, visiting Parliament and engaging politicians, fun activities, media opportunities.

Attending all activities with the Young Ambassadors during their time in the UK and ensuring them support with their accommodation, travel, food etc.
2. Lead on communications and social media for Send My Friend to School
The Campaign Officer is the lead on communications for SMF. With the support of the Campaign Manager, they develop and implement SMF’s communication strategy. This includes:

Setting the monthly agenda for posts and newsletters

Designing and posting social media content

Writing newsletters for a school staff audience
-
Coordinating media opportunities
-
Identifying new opportunities to amplify the work of Send My Friend

Supporting the Campaign Manager in keeping the Send My Friend website up to date.
3. Provide logistical and administrative support for Send My Friend to School activities
The Campaign Officer is the lead on administrative support. This includes:

Providing administrative support to the coalition and campaign, including taking minutes for the various working group meetings.

Booking travel and accommodation for all SMF projects.

Supporting logistics and set up for SMF events and meetings.
-
Supporting the monitoring and evaluation of SMF projects to deliver impact reports.

Undertake any other duties, appropriate to the post, as requested by the Campaign Manager and be prepared to occasionally work out-of-hours and at weekends as necessary to provide effective support when needed, for example during an event such as Party Conferences if teachers need to contact you.
