The Diocese of Coventry is seeking a Strategic Programme and Change Director to drive the development and implementation of our strategic framework. The role holder will:

• Facilitate and co-ordinate the development of the diocese’s strategic plan, working closely with the Bishop’ Strategy Integration Group, senior clergy and lay leaders across the diocese.
• Oversight of the strategic programme governance framework, including the approach to effective planning, monitoring and delivery of the desired outcomes.
• Act as advisor to the Bishop’s Strategy Integration Group and Coventry Operational Leadership Team in helping to create a positive environment for change, demonstrating an understanding/sensitivity to the impact of proposed changes.
• Lead on the development and submission of funding applications for strategic programme work and ensure the Diocese resources National Church initiatives and programmes appropriately and structures project teams and delivery frameworks accordingly.

Job summary:

We’re looking for a qualified accountant to join our team and provide operational leadership for the Charity’s Finance function, supporting the Director of Finance & Governance and providing line management for our friendly finance team.

You will be responsible for ensuring The Charity complies with statutory requirements, operates effective controls, provides meaningful insight on financial matters and adapts processes to suit our growing Charity.

You will take a lead on statutory compliance such as audit, tax and Charity Commission submissions. You will work with the Finance Manager to ensure the integrity of finance records and systems, the accurate and timely production of monthly management accounts, making of payments to Team Members and suppliers and ad hoc reporting.

You will take a leading role in budget preparations and forecasting.

Who we’re looking for:

A qualified accountant with at least five years’ experience in a similar role from any sector. You will have experience of and be comfortable with filing VAT returns, preparing statutory accounts, dealing with auditors, and managing a small team.

· Accurate recording, reporting and use of restricted funds

· Review and commentary on finances and significant variances for Finance Committees

· Cash flow planning and management

· Banking compliance e.g. updating mandates

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Leadership, strategy & planning

1. Lead the research and public affairs functions at Alcohol Change UK.

2. Produce and deliver plans across our research and public affairs work programmes that are ambitious for change (impact), realistic given our resources, and consistent with our strategy, our other work programmes, and our values.

3. Set budgets, tightly control costs and identify opportunities for making savings, growing income and making the case for investment.

4. Appropriately monitor and evaluate our research and public affairs work with a view to knowing, growing and showing the impact we make.

Research

5. Work closely with the CEO, Policy and Research Manager, R&P sub-committee and Wales Office to determine and oversee the charity’s programme of commissioned research, research grants, and in-house research.

6. Ensure that all research is designed with impact-in-mind and, once complete, that it delivers on that impact through active and ongoing communication of the findings to the right audiences with the right messages through the right channels.

7. Lead the research function to be the central hub for the charity on the topic of alcohol harm and its solutions, staying on top of new research.

Public Affairs

9. Lead and manage the charity’s public affairs activity, deploying the CEO, Research & Policy Officer and other staff as a team.

10.  Lead our work with external alliances, such as the Alcohol Health Alliance and the Alcohol and Families Alliance, and on the APPG on Alcohol Harm.

11.  Develop excellent relationships with Parliamentarians, civil servants, charities and other important institutional actors in our field.

1. Background and Purpose

The Deputy Director works in close partnership with the Executive Director (ED) to enhance the work of the small, dynamic secretariat team to create more momentum across its network. This new role will be instrumental in delivering on the strategic objectives and securing sustainable funding through its continued evolution. · Work closely with the ED, to establish and execute a fundraising plan to achieve the strategy and workplan of the CHS Alliance, including donor intelligence.

External partnerships & donor engagement:

· Stay abreast of emerging trends in the volatile context of humanitarian action and provide strategic thought leadership on the dynamic and shifting priorities and what it means for the Alliance network.

· Work closely with the ED to create a strong donor advocacy and engagement plan that goes beyond fundraising to work with donors as drivers of accountability.

· In coordination with the rest of the Alliance team, engage with external stakeholders to build and maintain relationships contributing to the CHS Alliance strategic objectives.

· Work closely across the teams to keep abreast of the Alliance members’ needs to meet the CHS commitments.

· Actively seek opportunities for partnerships to advance the CHS Alliance Strategic Plan (e.g. with members, academia, coordination bodies like the IASC, or other key stakeholders).

· Promote the CHS and the work of the CHS Alliance through relevant social media channels or platforms, through conference presentations and through workshops or other events.

· Represent CHS Alliance and its positions at meetings, speaking engagements or through opinion pieces. Assist the CHS Alliance to influence policy in the sector.

· Act as the public face of the CHS Alliance, along with the ED, to promote its mission and purpose.

CDP’s development team is ambitious, dynamic and at the heart of everything CDP does. As a Senior Manager, Philanthropy, you will focus on developing and managing strategic, high-value relationships with Trusts and Foundations. The Senior Manager will play a key role in developing and implementing a global fundraising strategy at a key time of organizational growth. Reporting directly to CDPs Head of Philanthropy, you are an independent thinker who can help grow and sustain grant funding from Trusts and Foundations.

Who you are

Your day-to-day

You will support the execution of CDPs philanthropic fundraising strategy. 

You will manage a portfolio of strategic, high-value donors, building strong relationships and implementing creative solicitation plans to maximise donor engagement and income.

You will research, develop and secure funding from new donors, with a strong focus on funders with a potential to give 7-8 figure grants. 

You will develop an excellent knowledge of CDP’s work, liaise with colleagues to prepare and present high-quality information such as tailored presentations and proposals for the donor. 

You will build excellent external working relationships at all levels with donors, their staff and networks in order to directly influence their decisions.

You will build excellent internal working relationships to engage staff at all levels in supporting donor stewardship to manage prospective and existing donors effectively.

About the role

Reporting to the CFO, the Head of Finance is responsible for leading a team of 5 and overseeing the day-to-day financial management of the charity, supporting and developing its financial strategies. In collaboration with the Charity’s Executive Team, the role is responsible for safeguarding the short, medium and long-term financial health of the organisation. This includes all financial reporting requirements, treasury management (overseeing the organisation's cash and liquidity performance) and the management of the annual budget and financial planning processes. The Head of Finance is also responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining a Management Information (MI) reporting suite which supports the Charity’s operations, commercial development activities and long-term strategies. Lastly, the Head of Finance is tasked with managing the development of the Finance department.

Areas of responsibility will include:

Financial Strategy and Policy

• Support the Charity’s Executive Team with ensuring the short, medium and long term financial health of the organisation
• Collaborate with the Charity’s SMT to prepare business cases and financial models to support new business activities and investment proposals
• Review and update the charities financial policies
• Cultivate a support structure across the organisation where the finance department acts as a trusted business partner for operations and management

Reporting

• Oversee all financial reporting processes for the Charity, ensuring that accurate, timely and relevant information is disseminated across the organisation
• Work with the SMT to identify areas to improve the reporting processes

Statutory Reporting, Audit & Risk

• Manage the Charity’s financial statutory compliance for both audit and regulatory matters and oversee the finance risk register
• Lead the year-end audit process, including the preparation of audit schedules, reconciliations and acting as a key point of contact for the auditors
• Prepare the financial disclosures sections of the Charity ‘s annual reports and the accompanying narrative to explain the financial performance of the year
• Support the Charity’s regulatory compliance responsibilities, particularly with the financial elements of ESFA funding guidelines. Prepare financial returns, financial health assessments and other submissions to ensure that ESFA requirements are fulfilled.

Cash Flow Management

• Monitory the Charity’s cash flow, manage the working capital controls and produce cashflow reports and forecasts
• Oversee the Charity’s cash flow management processes and report on cash flow performance against budget and forecast targets.
• Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts which provide a consistently reliable understanding of the organisation’s cash flow position over the financial year.

Finance Department Development

• Design and implement learning and development frameworks for each member of the Finance department.
• Ensure that each member of the Finance department is sufficiently supported to fulfil their performance development goals.

About you

• Qualified Accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent)
• Experience of audit and preparation of annual financial accounts under UK GAAP and understanding of Charity SORP
• Experience of leading and developing Finance teams
• Experience working within the Charity or Education sectors (experience working with ESFA funding is preferable)
• Experienced managing budget processes
• Experience of business partnering
