The Community Engagement Officer will play a pivotal role in delivering Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Dementia Community Champions (DCC) programme. Launched in 2022, the programme empowers volunteers to share dementia information within communities that are under-served in terms of access to health information and research, and at higher risk of being affected by dementia. The programme has to date focused on South Asian communities in Leicester, Nottingham, and Derby. In 2026, it will expand to include Black African and Black Caribbean communities in East London. As the programme continues to grow, the Officer will have significant scope to support, shape, and develop this important area of work.
Dementia Community Champions are volunteers trained by Alzheimer’s Research UK to deliver events in their communities to increase knowledge and understanding of dementia, brain health and dementia risk factors. They also emphasise the importance of taking part in research in their local communities.
They do this by:
- attending and completing training in dementia, risk factors, and dementia research run by the core ARUK team.
- holding events within their communities to share dementia information.
- sharing leaflets and other resources.
- speaking to local people about their experience of dementia and signposting them to appropriate information and opportunities.
This role will be known internally as Dementia Community Champion – FTC*
Key Responsibilities:
Day to day support of volunteers
· Assist in the recruitment and management of new DCC volunteers, ensuring a smooth onboarding process and volunteer journey.
· Act as a point of contact for DCC volunteers, providing guidance, support, and timely responses to their enquiries.
· Empower volunteers by helping them build skills and confidence to talk about dementia and dementia research, and to engage effectively with their audiences.
· Plan, facilitate, and deliver monthly online meetings. This includes coordinating with volunteers, arranging logistics, addressing queries, and liaising with internal stakeholders.
Comprehensive admin support
· Provide comprehensive administrative support for the programme, including assisting volunteers in organising and evaluating their events.
· Collect key metrics from the programme to monitor progress and evaluate activities.
· Maintain relevant files and documents, ensuring accurate recording of data and adherence to GDPR.
· Ensure activities comply with ARUK’s branding and style guide.
Support the delivery of Dementia Community Champions in underserved communities.
· Assist in the development and delivery of DCC training and ongoing support to volunteers to hold their own events.
· Act as a champion for DCC across Alzheimer's Research UK, effectively communicating the importance, successes and challenges of the programme. Share insights and support colleagues across ARUK in their efforts to reach underserved communities.
· Collaborate with the DCC Manager to produce ongoing evaluation of the programme. Proactively suggest new initiatives and continuous improvements.
What we are looking for:
· Science graduate or equivalent level of education (biomedical or biological subject) or relevant work experience
· Experience of discussing health or research with the public.
· Experience of communicating complex health information in a simple and accessible way.
· Awareness of current topics in dementia and dementia research
· Demonstrated experience in providing comprehensive administrative support for programmes or initiatives.
· Experience of working with and supporting volunteers.
· Project and events coordination experience.
· Effective written and spoken communication skills.
· A confident, friendly, and professional attitude; would feel at ease representing the charity to a range of audiences.
· Willingness and ability to travel independently in the UK and occasionally to work outside of regular office hours when needed.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise responsibilities, and meet deadlines effectively, especially in a fast-paced environment.
· The willingness to learn and understand about dementia and dementia research and be able to use learning to effectively train others on topics of diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
· Willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues across different departments, as well as external stakeholders and volunteers, to achieve common goals.
· Openness to adapting to changing circumstances and priorities, as well as flexibility in approach when working with diverse communities and volunteers.
· Ability to understand and empathise with individuals affected by dementia, as well as volunteers who may have personal connections to the cause.

Additional Information:
Ways of working: As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

About the role
At the heart of our welfare operations, our brilliant Regional Casework Coordinators are the primary point of contact for members of the Armed Forces community when reaching out to our Regional Offices for assistance.
In this dynamic role, no two days are the same. You may be assisting beneficiaries in distress over the phone, managing email and voicemail communications, collaborating with volunteers on complex casework, building strong relationships with local authorities and charitable organisations, or working closely with internal services to secure the best possible outcomes for our beneficiaries.
You will sometimes handle complex problems from clients who may be distressed; identifying their needs to determine the best way to assist them. You will have ownership of cases from beginning to end, coordinating the casework process efficiently and ensuring that the beneficiary journey is at the centre of the service.
Whilst the post is homebased, to be eligible for this role you are required to live in the East of England region; in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, or Essex.
You will occasionally be required to travel around the region or further afield, to attend face to face meetings or training events.
To help you establish yourself in this new post you will receive excellent training and an induction to SSAFA. You will initially be required to attend an in-person caseworkers’ course which may require an overnight stay.

Reporting to the Regional Casework Manager our Casework Coordinators, along with our Volunteer Caseworkers, work remotely within the regional office area. With beneficiaries at the heart of everything we do, team members pride themselves in building and maintaining close working relationships to ensure the smooth operation of the office. The wider regional team includes a Regional Manager, Volunteer Development Manager and a Community Engagement Manager.

Our Fundraising Assistant will provide key administrative support to the Fundraising Team. Being based primarily at our Shrewsbury office, this person will be a key point of contact for our supporters in the office, and will assist with managing online fundraising platforms, email and phone communications and ensuring fundraising materials are ready and waiting to go out into the community.

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a new community based service supporting offenders as they transition from prison back into the community; rather than a custodial setting, where residents are able to go out into the community depending on their licence restrictions. As our Housing Lead, you play a vital role in supporting residents futures by working closely with housing stakeholders and residents to create tailored, effective move on plans. You help ensure people have the right tools, support and opportunities to rebuild their lives, reconnect with the community and move forward with confidence in their rehabilitation journey.
Some Key Responsibilities include:
- Act as the main point of contact between landlords, housing associations, local authorities, private landlords, wider Social Interest Group Services, and our residents
- Work with the wider team to support residents with their long term needs

- Manage current resident tenancies, ensuring timely rent payment

About You
We're looking for someone who has knowledge on different types of tenancies, an understanding of the types of needs of our resident group, and able to provide tailored solutions to meet their long term goals. You will have a true passion to support in making a change, supporting rehabilitation, and providing opportunities to people to make positive changes to their lives, and reintegrate into society. You will have a general understanding of the criminal justice system, and/or have experience supporting people with multiple/complex needs. Further, you will have:
- Previous experience in coordinating/delivering activities and interventions with people from different backgrounds
- Experience of working with people of complex backgrounds and/or a good understanding of the sector
- Knowledge of risk management and risk assessment
- Knowledge of license conditions and public protection
- Knowledge of tenancy management, able to share knowledge with others in the team and residents
- Understanding of the housing and social needs of people with multiple and complex needs
- The ability to use, learn and adapt to IT at an intermediate level, including Microsoft and other software programs.

The Role
The Major Gifts Manager will work closely with the Head of Individual Giving & Major Gifts to provide support on all gifts at £12,000 and above. The role combines face-to-face fundraising of the annual Major Donor levels of Artistic Director’s Circle and Avant Guardians, implementing the strategy to recruit further support at these levels as well as supporting recruitment at the Major Project Support level which begins at £50,000. There is regular and proactive collaboration with development department colleagues and the wider Sadler’s Wells team to deliver a dynamic programme of donor cultivation and stewardship.
What are my responsibilities?
Fundraising

Manage the annual Major Gifts programme (Avant-Guardians and Artistic Director’s Circle), overseeing stewardship, retention and recruitment as well as the implementation of the five-year fundraising strategy of this income area.

Develop and maintain excellent relationships with own portfolio of major donors as the ‘Primary Worker’

Work with the Head of Individual Giving & Major Gifts to deliver special fundraising events for cultivating and stewarding Major Project Supporters and annual Major Gifts Supporters.

Our client's service provides semi-independent accommodation consisting of 39 bed spaces split between 7 shared properties to people exiting short stay/long term hostel/supported housing provisions in preparation for independent general needs accommodation. Clients accessing their services have all experienced homelessness, may be in recovery for substance or alcohol use or an addressed mental health need or are currently positively engaged with external services around any identified needs.
Their team is looking for a Housing and Lettings Worker who will play a key role in providing a welcoming, safe and supportive environment while providing housing and tenancy related management support to clients at the service. You will be responsible for the quick turn-around of bed space voids and supporting new/current clients with benefits claims, accessing relevant health care and treatment appointments and signposting to other relevant support services. Additional responsibilities will include:
- Working as part of a team in to ensure that a person-centred approach is taken when working with clients
- Advice and assistance to clients in relation to fulfilling tenancy conditions
- Advice and assistance to clients to identify and access move-on options

Community Navigator (SPA) – Mental Health

This role is an opportunity to work for Mind BLMK as part of the Milton Keynes NHS mental health service for someone with experience working in health, social care or information and advice, in direct contact with service users.
Working alongside colleagues from Central Northwest London Foundation Trust (CNWL) this role will provide referral management to and from Secondary Services. This will include signposting patients to statutory services including talking therapies and wider community based & voluntary sector support.
The role also includes answering calls through the NHS 111 Mental Health Option whereby you will be required to assess risks in real time and appropriately managing the call, escalating when necessary.
The Community Navigator will work as part of the team to deliver on the aims and objectives of the Mental Health Hub whilst representing the Voluntary and Community sector with the NHS.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 1 years’ employment working in health, social care or information and advice, in direct contact with service users, ideally within a Mental Health setting, and will have worked with challenging or vulnerable patients who present with multiple or complex needs or risk history.
Service Delivery
- Work within the NHS Mental Health SPA (Single Point of Access) Team to review and process referrals received from GP Practices and other sources including those to be subsequently triaged and assessed by mental health practitioners.
- Actively call patients with a view to assisting them through the process and making their onward appointments into community or secondary care service providers.
- Support the hub to signpost patients and direct them to appropriate services including secondary care, the local Voluntary and Community sector services and activities that support the patients’ wider determinates of their mental health and wellbeing.
- Answer calls, ensure sufficient phone cover, respond to messages/voicemails, provide administrative support to the Mental Health SPA for all services and deal with queries in a sensitive and timely way liaising with clinical or team lead as is appropriate.

- Monitor and action tasks within SystmOne and maintain records of all activities carried out, i.e. outbound calls, calls received, archiving any received correspondence.

Job title - Fundraising and Membership Officer
Responsible to - Fundraising Operations Manager
Salary - £24,645 - £26,275 FTE per annum (pro rata)
(£19,716 - £21,020 actual) Exact salary dependent on experience
Hours of work - Part time - 28 hours per week (0.8 FTE). We consider part-time/job-share and flexible working requests
Annual leave - 30 days + 8 bank holidays per year pro rata
Location - This role is hybrid - split between home working and our Bristol office. You will be required to work a minimum of 50% of your hours from the office each week.
Job purpose
This role will underpin the operation of our fundraising and membership programmes, with a mixture of public facing interactions and focused operational, database work.
Our long-standing membership scheme is an integral part of our fundraising at Action for ME, and we are fortunate to have a generous membership base of over 3,000 loyal supporters. You will be the main point of contact for our members, ensuring they feel valued and connected to our work, as well as supporting efforts to increase our current membership.
You will also be responsible for the smooth running of crucial operational processes for our membership, trading and individual giving income streams, both during fundraising campaigns and day to day. With a commitment to continuous improvement of these systems, you will help us to increase the efficiency and quality of our stewardship, retain our donors and bring in new supporters.
Key duties
Membership
- Be the main point of contact for our members and provide high quality stewardship over the phone, by email and by letter, always ensuring consistent and high-quality communication.
- Be responsible for delivering operational tasks relating to the membership scheme and improving their efficiency. Including, but not limited to, gift importing and processing, data administration, thanking members, processing renewals and sending out renewal reminders.
- Work with the Fundraising Operations Manager and our Senior Supporter Engagement Officer to monitor the performance of the membership programme and support its growth.
- Maintenance and creation of the mailing lists for our membership magazine, InterAction. Assist with the distribution of the magazine across all channels (post, email, audio).
Individual Giving & Trading
- Ensure that gifts are processed, recorded and thanked appropriately in a timely manner; and that database records are kept up to date, in line with fundraising data regulations.
- Assisting with the administration of our Winter and Spring raffles and Lottery programme.
- Work with the Fundraising Operations Manager and the wider team to maximise fundraising potential using data and donor insights/feedback.
- Maintain a high standard of data quality and record keeping on our database, ensuring our fundraising processes and procedures are applied in line with all regulatory and governance requirements including GDPR and those of the Fundraising Regulator.
- Processing all outgoing post for the Fundraising team, including online shop orders, from our Bristol office. Complete other office-based tasks as required. You will be required to work at least 50% of your hours from the office.
- Work alongside the fundraising team to deliver our strategy and workplans, including involvement in projects and fundraising campaigns as required.

Person Specification
Experience and knowledge
- Demonstrable experience in building relationships with customers or stewarding supporters and donors.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel for work, including basic excel functions, basic formulas and list tools.
- Experience of using a CRM database, preferably Raiser’s Edge
- Minimum 2 years previous fundraising experience (desirable)
