The young people we work with have become homeless for a number of reasons – isolation or mental health, abusive relationships, substance misuse, involvement in gangs/county lines - their issues are complex so you will need to be able to build strong, trusting relationships so that our customers feel safe and supported.

We are opening two new supported housing schemes in Lambeth, which will be Ofsted registered. Both schemes are part of our well-established Young Persons and Complex Needs service in London and will provide temporary housing for young people aged 16-17 who are experiencing homelessness. 

A bit about the role:

As a Caseworker, you will be working with a team of highly motivated, compassionate, and dedicated colleagues supporting a caseload of young customers with complex needs. You’ll need to meet each customer weekly to help them with their goals and discuss their progress. And, when someone’s ready to move on, we'll rely on you to help them access the housing register or look for suitable rented accommodation.

What we’re looking for:

You may have worked with vulnerable young people in a paid or voluntary capacity, maybe as a Youth Worker or in an education setting providing pastoral care. You’re a great relationship builder, who can create trust so that our young people feel comfortable sharing their issues with you, you listen but in a non-judgemental way and you are able to spot signs for concern and act on them. You’ll also need to be able to work on your own, sometimes dealing with challenging situations and diffusing them to avoid escalation. Is this you?

We are seeking an Advanced Recovery Practitioner to support in the Women and Families team, within Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest, working in partnership with Turning Point and Antidote.  The successful candidate must have demonstrable experience in working within a substance misuse treatment and recovery setting, must have specialist training and supervision in one or more complexities alongside substance misuse. This may be mental health, long term conditions, criminal justice, offending behaviour, homelessness, motivational interviewing, safeguarding, family work.  Have an understanding of risk and risk management, as it applies to substance misuse and complexity.  Have a working knowledge of Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults framework, the ability to follow procedure and development of a culture of safe practice.  Ability to work under pressure and have significant experience of working in health and social care.

The service will support individuals transitioning from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services to Adult services.

The service forms part of a pair of services supporting up to 12 individuals at any one time across the sites, providing a welcoming and supportive environment for young people across london on a spot purchase basis.

Specialist Support workers will manage a caseload of customers to help them to identify, plan and achieve their goals, develop relationships meaningful to them and achieve greater independence by providing a flexible and individually tailored support package.

Consists of working 5 days a week across all days, 8 hours shifts starting at either 8am or 2pm.

Overall Purpose

Voids - Each year, Look Ahead collects c£21m of rent and service charge from the c3,000 units of property that we own and manage. This amount represents roughly a third of Look Ahead's annual income and therefore it is essential for us to maximise occupancy rates within our properties.

This is a varied opportunity that will see you managing the completion of all void works and ensuring that all properties are let within our Corporate deadlines. Look Ahead manages approx. 1500 units on other landlord's behalf, of which there are approx. 35. • Undertake time-limited, SMART, and a range of evidence-based interventions such as 1-1’s, including harm minimisation, increasing awareness and motivation through stages of change and relapse prevention.
• Support in creating and maintaining a welcoming, psychologically informed home environment for residents/participants, ensuring a continuous focus on safety, health, and wellbeing.
• Positively promote and support connections with local communities and boroughs of SIG’s services and liaise with other teams to maintain and share knowledge and links to support people to access resources which include print, personal and digital.

KEY CRITERIA

What we are looking for:

• Knowledge, understanding and experience of working with people of complex backgrounds. Ideally ex-offenders, those with enduring mental health, substance misuse and challenging behaviours
• Experience of assessing needs and strengths, and supporting people with dual diagnosis and complex needs
• Previous experience in a similar role, providing holistic assessments and support for people experiencing mental illness who use substances
• IT Proficiency, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to navigate and learn new case management systems and other types of organisational software
• Able to recognise ill health and additional support and need for interventions
• Knowledge of the interactions between mental health problems and drug and alcohol use and the issues facing people trying to stabilise their situation
• Applied knowledge of the principles of risk assessment and risk management, particularly in relation to harm minimisation
• Ability to engage those who may be hard to reach, able to influence and negotiate positive outcomes with others

What we would like, but not essential:

• Experience in delivering training in motivational interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Theory informed approaches and other relevant recovery models

We’re looking for two self-starting team members who will help coordinate our JUMP befriending project for unaccompanied asylum seekers and refugees.

You’ll be responsible for half of the befriending pairs (currently 28, increasing to 50 in the coming months) and undertake tasks such as working with our partner organisations, managing referrals for young people, recruiting volunteer befrienders, and setting-up and sustaining pairs. This includes leading an initial training day.

You’ll also provide JUMP young people with casework support, help organise our group events and facilitate support from our Hardship Fund.

Main functions

Supporting young people and the JUMP Community

1. Managing a caseload of young people; including offering casework support; arranging and attending appointments with the young person where necessary and signposting to available support.
2. Helping plan and organise quarterly group events.
3. Conducting initial assessments with young people to understand their needs, and once paired with a volunteer, hosting befriending initial meetings.

 Supervising and supporting volunteers

1. Recruiting, interviewing and onboarding new befrienders, including organising and delivering training.
2. Supporting befriending volunteers through regular supervisions, meetings, emails and phone calls, and responding promptly to any safeguarding concerns raised.
3. Ensuring that volunteers uphold JUMP’s policies and boundaries for befriending.

Publicising JUMP, and engaging with key stakeholders

1. Publicising the project to existing and potential referral agencies, and establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with them.
2. Representing HIAS+JCORE and JUMP in the refugee sector as required, for example at the Refugee and Migrant Children’s Consortium (RMCC) meetings.

Project monitoring, evaluation and record keeping

1. Working with experts and the JUMP Project Manager on supporting the project and its evaluation, and keeping accurate records in JUMP’s database.

Other Duties

1. Ensuring that JUMP informs our campaigns, communications and education work. As the project develops, there will be opportunities for the post-holder to contribute to and support these areas of our work.

We're looking for candidates who have

• Ability to support, develop rapport and trust with, and motivate both young people and volunteers from a range of backgrounds and ages in challenging circumstances, including the ability to facilitate and engage in cross cultural communication.
• Knowledge of issues facing separated asylum seeking and refugee children and young people, and the rights and entitlements of ‘Looked After’ children and young people.
• Understanding of the current context surrounding immigration, asylum and welfare issues facing children and young people in the UK today.
• Understanding of Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult Safeguarding, and ability to communicate this to volunteers.
• Understanding of youth work principles and methods, including the benefits and challenges of befriending and other participatory methods.
• Ability to network in the refugee sector and develop strong working relationships.
• Ability to work independently and to self-motivate.
• Commitment to HIAS+JCORE values, social justice and antiracism.
• The ability to communicate in languages other than English, in particular Arabic, Spanish and French (desirable)

Experience required

Essential

• A track record of working directly with asylum seeking and refugee children and young people.
• Experience of social work, youth work, or other relevant methods of supporting people in challenging circumstances.
• Experience of training, coordinating and supporting volunteers.
• Experience of juggling commitments and responding to relevant stressful situations.

Desirable

• Educated to at least undergraduate degree level, or equivalent background or experience.
• Working knowledge of Local Authorities’ responsibilities for Looked After Children and Care Leavers.
• Experience of project management including administration, monitoring, evaluation and report writing.

We are searching for someone with excellent leadership skills to join us at our service in West London as Floating Support Team Manager. You will oversee our service that is based in Brent, including Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow and Kensington and Chelsea.

You will support our clients (caseload of up to 64 clients) who have slept rough or are sleeping rough, who have been supported by partners into their own tenancies. The aim of the service is to support clients to sustain their tenancies and:

• • Develop and maintain the skills to live independently
  • Manage finances including access to benefits and debt advice
  • Access a range of services and community facilities to meet their needs, including health care, treatment, mental health support, advocacy, floating support, befriending and social and leisure activities
  • Build on their individual strengths and assets to achieve the outcomes that matter to them in their move to independence and improve health and wellbeing.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the services deliver excellent and continuously improving project performance in line with the contracts for floating support in Southwark and Wandsworth.
