Delight is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Fundraiser to lead and deliver Delight’s strategy for trusts, foundations, and statutory sources, and generate new funding opportunities in collaboration with the CEO. Cancer52 is a national organisation, created in 2007 by Professor Sir Mike Richards, CBE, then National Clinical Director for Cancer, and registered as a charity in England and Wales in September 2017.

We are an exceptional organisation, providing one voice for all those affected by rare and less common cancers.  Historically, these cancers have been underrepresented and under-funded.  Today, they represent 47% of people diagnosed with cancer, but 55% of all cancer deaths – a hidden majority.  Cancer52’s aim is to change this by taking the collective voice of our members to those who influence cancer policy, research, services and treatment.

Cancer52 is recognised for its strong convening role, bringing together our 115 member charities with organisations in industry, government, the NHS and other stakeholders to address the inequalities faced by patients with rare and less common cancers.  Our reputation is strong and we are in a unique position to provide a common voice for these underrepresented cancers.  The figures for people with these cancers are challenging and there is much work to do.

After a hugely successful tenure during which Cancer52’s size and influence has grown dramatically, our current CEO is retiring from full time work in July. The Board of Trustees is now seeking to appoint a successor to build on the successes and achievements of recent years.

To be our next Chief Executive, you will be a talented leader, able to motivate and empower others  and develop strong internal and external stakeholder relationships. You will also be an inspiring and authentic individual who is passionate, confident and engaging as the key spokesperson of the organisation and a representative of the diverse Cancer52 membership.

You will be capable of influencing decisions at senior levels of government, in the NHS and in partner organisations operating in the fields of cancer research, prevention, diagnosis and treatment. As our Chief Executive, your role is to be a key proponent of the campaigning and influencing drive of the charity, setting the overall strategy and vision for the organisation.

In addition to the core management competencies required, the role requires demonstrable leadership which will inspire others, along with a comprehensive understanding of Cancer52’s purpose and the problems faced by those charities and organisations representing the rare and less common cancer communities.

Role description and purpose

The post-holder will be responsible for the successful leadership and management of CPA’s portfolio of programmes in line with the strategic direction set by the Council and Trustees. Reporting directly to the CEO, the post-holder will be a key member of the senior management team, leading the Programme/Project Management team and working with the Finance Manager, Communications Lead, Research Lead, Advisors and other key staff to develop and deliver CPA programmes across the Commonwealth and beyond. This will include strategic planning, project and team management, development of workplans and budgets, provision of leadership, good governance and oversight of all programme-related activities. This role will be responsible for engaging and working with external agencies, subject matter experts, and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the on-budget delivery of high-quality outputs across CPA’s portfolio of programmes. The post holder will also be required to work with other Leads and key staff across the organisation to scope and develop relationships with potential funders and support the creation of funding proposals for future programmes and workstreams, integrating their delivery into the overall programmes portfolio.

Key duties and responsibilities

Leadership and operational planning, management and oversight

• Collaborate with the Board, CEO and key staff to develop and advance the organisational strategic plan and goals and ensure programme areas align with strategic plan.

Human resources planning and management

• Leading the programmes team, including direct line management responsibility, regular one-to-ones, team meetings, pastoral support and appraisals.

• Determine human resource requirements for the management and delivery of programmes, services and resources; recruit, select and appoint appropriate staff according to need and funding availability.

• Ensure adherence to human resources policies, procedures and practices including the development of job descriptions for all staff.

• Through this new organisational role, you’ll proactively create and grow fundraising income opportunities with individuals, community groups and grant giving trusts and foundations. You'll be at the heart of our local community, bringing our cause to life and building lasting donor relationships.
   
• Through your fundraising expertise, you will have a proven track record of building relationships with individuals, community groups, trusts and foundations and other donors to achieve and exceed annual income targets and KPI’s. You’ll have the capacity to create and craft compelling proposals and appeals that successfully engage and attract donations from new and existing supporters.

Through the design and delivery of excellent, engaging and regular stewardship communications and powerful fundraising appeals, you will grow our income and pool of individual supporters making one off or monthly donations. You’ll also explore and implement ways of promoting Eastbourne Food Bank across the community to successfully attract an ever-greater number of individual donors.

• You’ll engage with local community groups, associations, events, schools and businesses in order to grow Eastbourne Foodbank’s community fundraising reach and income.
   
• Through excellent, comprehensive and considered research, you’ll identify and prioritise a pool of potential Trusts and Foundations funders for Eastbourne Foodbank and, working with colleagues, you’ll develop authentic, compelling, creative and winning funding bids that can successfully engage new and existing Trusts and Foundations funders.  
   
• You’ll work closely with and support the CEO of Eastbourne Foodbank in maintaining and evolving the existing relationship with the Big Lottery Fund and developing collaborative fundraising activities and joint bids with five other Trussell Trust Foodbanks across East Sussex.

The salary will be £38k to £40k depending on experience

Training and Projects Officer

Location: The role is based at the Trust’s office in West Berkshire with a minimum of three days per week expected to be worked at our Newbury office. Flexible working arrangements are available with the understanding that this must meet the objectives of the charity and requirements of the role.

Start date: As soon as possible

Hours of work: Full-time (0.8-1FTE negotiable), Monday-Friday, permanent.

Salary range: £26,000 - £28,000 FTE starting salary, depending on experience.

Purpose

This is an interesting and important position at the Trust, with the postholder taking responsibility for a range of administrative and project management tasks supporting our Education programme, working to both the Education Project Manager and the Trust’s Head of Programmes.

Our Education Programme is our body of charitable activity delivering training and resources appropriate for schools, colleges and universities, often working with education institutions to create a whole school/college approach to promote good mental health in students and staff alike.

The postholder will be the first point of contact for our training team, enabling our mental health training delivery to take place. There will be opportunities to play a key role in monitoring and evaluation, and obtain a good understanding of the sector. This is a key role in ensuring the Trust and its activities are serviced with robust, reliable and up-to-date evidence and information.

You’ll need to be confident in dealing with the charity’s delivery partners and beneficiaries, both over the telephone and face to face. You’ll enjoy working with and supporting our trainer and office teams, and be super organised and proactive. You’ll manage a varied workload, prioritising tasks as necessary, and will be comfortable communicating with a wide range of people at all levels. We have a small office team, and the successful applicant will need to be a flexible team player.

Key responsibilities and duties

• Work closely with and provide administrative support to the Education Programme.
• Support trainers with the day-to-day running of online and face-to-face courses and maintain effective communication links with the freelance trainers. The postholder is the primary office contact for the training team.
• Liaise with freelance trainers to provide logistical and technical support in the day-to-day delivery of training, Charlie Waller Trust (CWT) conferences and open access webinars.
• Project manage Webinars and E-Learning projects.
• Respond to general enquiries by phone and email on behalf of the Charitable Activities team and deal with these as appropriate.
• Participate in the planning, development, creation, and implementation of training programmes to ensure the smooth running of all courses.
• Collect data directly from colleges, universities, and schools programmes.
• Ensure proper filing of measurement and evaluation documents including questionnaires, monitoring reports and datasets.
• Assist senior leaders and the wider team in the production and maintenance of project plans and help implement project objectives from start to finish.
• Collaborate with the existing team to implement new and improved methods to capture and report on our impact.
• Maintain monitoring and evaluation data on the Trust database to ensure accurate data analysis.
• Assist with Quarterly reporting to the CEO and Trustee Board, leading on gathering statistical data from across Charitable Activities.
• Manage and support our Lived Experience Partners (including our Youth Ambassador team) alongside any other freelance trainers.
• Routine call handling as part of the wider office administrative team.
