Join Us as a Finance Manager

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Finance Manager to join our team and play a crucial role in ensuring the financial integrity and sustainability of ESC. This part-time position (10 hours per week) is essential to maintaining strong financial records, reviewing budgets, and supporting compliance across the club’s operations. As a charity, our financial health is vital to delivering exceptional training, competitions, and community-based initiatives. Your expertise will help us grow and continue to provide high-quality opportunities for swimmers across all levels. Working closely with the Senior Management Team and Trustee Board, you will help with financial operations and contribute to the long-term success of the club.

Key Responsibilities:

• Financial Management: Maintain the integrity of financial records for the charity and its members.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Prepare annual budgets and financial forecasts as required.
• Account Management: Prepare quarterly management accounts and year-end accounts, including pre-payments, accruals, and journal entries.
• Financial Reconciliation: Reconcile all balance sheet accounts on the management accounts.
• Audit Preparation: Liaise with external auditors to prepare year-end statutory accounts.
• Treasury Management: Manage surplus funds efficiently.
• Payroll & HMRC Compliance: Prepare and manage monthly payroll and pension payments, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
• Policy Review: Conduct an annual review of ESC’s finance policies and procedures.
• Governance & Reporting: Attend trustee meetings and monthly operations board meetings as required.
• Sage Management: Ensure integrity of Sage accounting software.
• Charity Compliance: Submit annual returns to the Charity Commission and Companies House.
• Project Support: Lead ad hoc financial projects as needed.
• Event Support: Volunteer at ESC events, supporting fundraising and engagement activities.

What We’re Looking For:

• 5 years of experience in management accounting.
• ACA/ACCA qualification (or equivalent) preferable.
• Experience in charity finance preferred.
• Proficiency in Sage, Word, Excel, and Microsoft Office.
• Strong numeracy and accuracy skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities effectively.
• Flexible and adaptable approach to tasks.

The Role

This is a 9 month Fixed Term Contract role

As Operations Volunteering Experience Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in ensuring that volunteers in operations-based roles feel valued, prepared, and supported throughout their journey. Working closely with internal teams, you’ll coordinate recruitment, training, and engagement efforts that enhance the volunteer experience and contribute to the smooth running of essential services.

You’ll oversee the flow of volunteers into operations-based roles, ensuring they are matched effectively to support Guide Dogs’ canine, children, and adult services. Working in collaboration with service and volunteering colleagues, you’ll support planning and resource allocation to ensure volunteer programmes align with national and local needs.

By ensuring volunteers receive comprehensive training and induction, you’ll help them build confidence in their roles. You’ll coordinate face-to-face and virtual induction sessions, facilitate ongoing training opportunities, and provide regular communication to ensure volunteers remain engaged and informed.

A key part of your role will involve monitoring and evaluating the volunteer journey, gathering feedback and insights to improve processes and experiences. You’ll manage volunteer data and compliance, ensuring records are accurate and up to date. Additionally, you’ll support the recognition and celebration of volunteers, helping to coordinate award events and initiatives that highlight the incredible contributions of those who give their time.

To excel in this role, you’ll have experience managing and supporting volunteers, ensuring they have a positive and rewarding experience. You’ll be confident in advising on best practices and processes, with the ability to build strong relationships across different teams.

Experience with volunteer management systems, CRM databases (such as Salesforce), and Microsoft Office will be beneficial. A strong understanding of GDPR, safeguarding principles, and best practices in equality, diversity, and inclusion is also essential.

Strong organisation and communication skills are essential in this role, as well as the ability to problem-solve and handle enquiries efficiently. Whether facilitating training, providing advice, or coordinating new volunteer initiatives, you’ll bring a solutions-focused approach to ensure volunteers feel engaged, valued, and equipped for success.

Job Title: Payroll and Pensions Administrator 

Location: Islington, London, (Around a 10 minute walk from Highbury and Islington station) Hybrid working with 2 days a week in the office and service visits regularly across London, Brighton, Luton, Bedford, Kent, and Liverpool. Once a month, the full People and Culture team have a collaborative office day on a Monday. 

Salary: £27,000

Shift Pattern: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00, with some flexibility around these hours as required.

About the role

Our People and Culture team are hiring a Payroll and Pensions Administrator to join the team to support with ensuring our staff are paid efficiently, accurately, and on time. You will play a pivotal part of the team to support with the preparation and processing of monthly payroll for all, coordinating effective and efficient end-to-end payroll and pensions administration, plus any additional relevant activities. You will utilise the tools and resources available to ensure we meet the needs of all our stakeholders and comply with legal matters. The role will further include:

• Taking ownership of administrative tasks in the payroll and pensions process, being the point of contact for enquiries in this area.
• Supporting the administrative process of payroll and pensions, including with the database/system, ensure that any problems are identified with the relevant departments for effective resolution.
• Ensure the process for all adaptations are carried out in a timely manner.
• Support relevant colleagues to ensure the correct payments, reports, and returns are made to HMRC, pension providers, and other bodies.
• Work in collaboration with functions within the organisation to ensure consistency of information and process.
• Ensure all data and reporting is updated in a timely manner across the relevant databases on a regular basis and fit the needs of the business.

In this role, you will report to the Payroll and Pensions Manager, working alongside the wider People and Culture team which includes the Generalist team, Talent Acquisition team, Workforce Development, and Talent Development team. About you

• Prepare, compile and submit high quality funding proposals and budgets in accordance with timetables and application criteria, with a particular focus on larger, multi-year and project funding opportunities. 

• Develop cultivation pathways for potential funders, including creating tailored engagement plans for high level donors, arranging school visits, attending key meetings (or briefing senior stakeholders) and delivering presentations to secure their support.

• Successfully manage relationships from your own portfolio of trusts and foundations, ensuring timely reporting and effective communications.

About the role

At EngineeringUK we use evidence to make a real difference. Through research insight and robust evaluation, we work to improve the impact of our own work, as well as that of other organisations in our sector. Our aim is to make a positive difference to young people’s lives and securing the diverse engineering and technology workforce the UK needs to thrive. The research and evaluation team consists of 6 researchers and analysts who work to provide these insights.

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver and develop our evaluation projects, to help build an evidence-base for engineering and technology outreach activities and to shape how we use this evidence to inform our own and others’ practice.

With support from the Head of Evaluation and Impact, you will be the operational lead on our evaluations, with responsibility for:

• critically assessing the evidence required to ascertain impact of engineering and technology outreach activities across a complex landscape, with an emphasis on groups historically underrepresented in the engineering and technology professions
• designing and managing the evaluation of our educational programmes, including the practicalities and logistics of collecting/analysing these data, and reporting findings to internal and external stakeholders
• working with colleagues to embed learning from evaluation findings into our future activities and the wider evidence base on the impact of engineering outreach activity
• developing advice and guidance on evaluation and impact measurement to support the engineering outreach community to evaluate their activity more robustly.
   

This job would ideally suit an experienced monitoring and evaluation professional interested in evaluating education programmes with a focus on increasing opportunities for young people from underrepresented groups.

We are looking for a strategic, impact-driven Community Programmes Manager – to lead the continued growth and development of our Community Engagement Programme and our Garden Programme in alignment with our recently launched 2030 strategy.

About the role

You will play a key part in developing and delivering our community fundraising strategy, making sure that anyone and everyone who wants to fundraise for people with arthritis has a great experience doing it. You will build strong relationships with supporters, be that as part of a golf club charity of the year partnership, workplace fundraising or supporting someone with a personal connection to arthritis to raise money in their local area. Developing, delivering and ultimately growing our Facebook challenges offer will be a huge focus – we have some great learnings and are now looking to take them to the next level. There will be plenty of opportunity to test and learn as part of this, and you will get the chance to learn and develop in the role too.

You will work collaboratively with teams across the organisation, from marketing to product development to events, to make sure our products meet the needs of our supporters and that their journey through the organisation is seamless. You will join an ambitious, creative and passionate fundraising team who put people with arthritis and our supporters at the heart of our work.

About you

If your knowledge, skills and experience include the following then we’d love to hear from you:

• Proven successful track record of planning and delivering community fundraising products (or similar) to achieve a good return on investment.
• Experience of delivering excellent supporter or customer stewardship through multi-channels and building relationships with a wide variety of supporters on the phone, in writing and face to face driving engagement, increasing income, and increasing supporter retention.  
• Experience to successfully and independently manage projects, delivering to pre-set deadlines, managing high workloads and ability to understand how and when to prioritise work.
